Any Greggo Scholars Out There?

101 comments:

  1. I was listening to Brad C's interview of Greg "Greggo" Williams from 2019 a couple of days ago. Pretty easy interview -- hit the record button and let him go.

I was startled to hear him say that part of his childhood was spent in Nebraska, along with many other stops, because his father was in the Air Force.

There is only one Air Force base in Nebraska -- Offutt AFB in Bellevue, south of Omaha. It's the home of what used to be called the Strategic Air Command (now called United States Strategic Command) Underground, made famous in "Dr. Strangelove" and that Star Trek episode "Tomorrow Is Yesterday." George Bush stopped there on his way back to Washington on 9/11. The Enola Gay was built at that base in the Martin bomber plant.

Yes, I grew up in Bellevue and now I learn it's a near-certainty that Greggo spent some of his childhood there. I lived next door to the base and went to the public schools there, and even spent sixth grade at a school in a nearby all-military housing development known as Capehart, so it's even possible he and are are fellow matriculants of a public school there.

Anyone (other than Greggo) know anything about his Nebraska sojourn?

  2. Whoa, forgot to credit Brad C's efforts here.

His podcast is ANOTHER DUMB PODCAST, which it is not.

PS: My post may have left the impression that I grew up in a military family. I did not, but most of my friends were Air Force kids. There for three years, then gone. Tough way to grow up, I would think. (Father: Electrician. Mother: Stenographer.)

  3. Greggo also claimed to have played professional baseball, so

  4. Right, Surly, although having had a cup of coffee in Nebraska is unlikely to go on anyone's bragging montage.

In fact, I had a couple of reactions to Brad C's interview. Thought I might do a post on it, but Hammer is not only really old news at this point, but probably not even known to a lot of readers.

  5. "[N]ear certainty." Not even close. Please see Surly's comment. There are people who will "story" about what they had for breakfast, Plainsman. The why? known only to them. And even they might not be able to answer.

  8. I am unaware of any of the Hammer's past before he was born full grown from the mind of Galloway as the producer of Galloway's sports show on WBAP. Given his history anything he says should be taken with a grain of salt. I think his distant relationship with the truth began long before any addiction issues and both are related to whatever underlying mental health issues he suffers from. I don't recall him ever mentioning any time in Nebraska on air but I could have missed it.

I would be interested in your thoughts on his interview with Brad C.

Also a bit with no payoff continues.

  9. The Nebraska reference was in passing, and there's no reason he would have concocted a whopper (a very, very tiny one) that required him to know that there was an Air Force Base in Nebraska, or that he spent any of his childhood there.

Sure, we can say that every syllable HeHoo utters is a lie, but of course it isn't so. And this particular factette sounded truthful to me.

  10. You are obviously full of poo poo anon 940.. You seem rather intent on protecting the obviously misleading ads being ran by a specific financial advisor on the ticket when I have not promoted or sponsored any competing interest nor am I even involved in that industry. Just like many have pointed out on other MTC threads, the Ticket frequently dabbles in misleading ads from time to time. Obviously you Anon 940 are the one that has financial interest at stake as you never challenge the content of my posts pointing out the sham that is annuities (from any institution for that matter) while ostensibly warning people about my motives. Good try TW shill...

Warning to all MTC readers - be weary of the interests of the person who is protecting the messaging that you can actually get a 25% bonus on your initial investment while getting a guaranteed 10 to 12 percent annualized return for your retirement. This is plainly garbage and I am sure Anon 940 knows it but seems to be protecting someone's interests... hmm I wonder who that could be??

  11. Enough on annuities. Everyone's had their say. All future posts will be deleted, and I should probably delete the two above. Maybe I will.

  14. More weirdness going down here at MTC.

So, someone on their own accord and without any reference to a previous comment or something Plainsman posted begins leaving comments that read like click-bait warnings against some slickster finance company that buys time on The Ticket (like so many other slickster companies, of all ilks). Someone else responds to these rando info-mercial-esque warnings in an antagonistic-ish way. The original person oddly accuses the light-hearted troll of working for the oppo or the likes. And it goes back and forth from there. It even spills over into the next thread, with the finance person starting afresh as if the first thread never happened, and to top it off, the light-hearted troll retorts.

Between this and some of the other (and I mean REALLY nutso) exchanges that have gone down, I'm beginning to wonder if some sort of Andy Kaufman wannabe or wannabes are having a lark. I mean, this shit's getting nuttier by the week.

  20. Oh no, another vague reference to "something's happening". It is probably time for that chatter to pickup again.

  21. Gordo's gone. So's Norm. Tim Cowlishaw takes Norm's place.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tbh 631's predict might not be too far off the farm. But if we're talking about bread crumb trails, then the kinda rando Danny appearance today stood out for me. I mean, a Grease review with a guy that's no longer working there who isn't the founder of the station? Touch of an eyebrow raiser I must say. Wonder if old Pizza F Pants is about to return to the station. Will say that I've noticed a lot of Tim C over the past few months and specially the past few weeks. As far as Goofy Deer goes who knows. Can't put anything past him. Could totally see him saying he wants to do something different career wise before he gets to the age where it's very difficult to impossible. As someone hitting 50 next month and who works in a related area to HR I can say that once you pass 55 it's very tough sledding. Pretty sure Gordo's 51 or 52 so he's getting close to that point. I don't think Norm's going anywhere. You'd have to fire or force retirement on him as well as pay out his contract and then some to get him to leave. I'd bet anything that if something like that went down he'd lawyer up and fight like hell. He seems that way.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You make some good points 11:33 Anon however I would say in this day of age of no company sponsored qualified pension programs there is no longer the hesitancy in hiring people over the age of 55 like in old days as every employee is simply a cash cost and not an age related long term liability. My company routinely hires people in the 55 to 63 age range for senior level director and VP level positions. They wouldn't have done this in the days of a qualified pension plan.

that said - - - - - when i caught Boom in da House - or when Donnie was the 2nd D in BaDD - - -a very different person was on the airways. Someone i enjoyed listening to, because it seemed like everyone else---they were having fun, in the moment.

its time buddy. its time. make donnie enjoyable again....

  26. Gordo seemed to pretty clearly indicate he was in it for a good 5-7 more years as he was getting his incredibly short-lived twitch career going. And it would be odd timing to retire just as kid(s) are heading to college. Though I suppose his slumlording probably paid for multiple college educations already.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not talking about retiring, Surly, I mean a different career track. And when it comes to Gordo, that could mean anything. Not anything in that he's some brilliant polymath (he's not, not by any stretch of the imagination); but rather, anything in that his interests are wide and his pockets comfortably deep (and I imagine properly blue chipped invested, to boot). Also, never forget all these guys will paint a rosy picture/claim fealty to the brand until it's revealed otherwise. In short, indications, declarations, et alia mean little. They're all D1 HCs at the end of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, we're in mid-August. Where's that noticeable transition to a more caller-driven, sports-focused Ticket? I recall someone claiming in rather strong, even convincing terms such a transition was taking place before our very eyes; and that come August it would be undeniable. Again, here we are in mid-August. Danny and Sirois have been gone for a coupla-few months now and Davey's been a member of THL for that same period of time. It already feels like he's been on THL 5.0 since its '20 debut. Moreover, sadly, it's as if Danny and Sirois never existed. These are the changes that have occurred. What hasn't occurred is any discernible change in formula or format or formatics.

Still waiting for those dedicated caller-driven segments from each show that don't involve schtick. Sorry, but those segments died with Coop, Rocco, and Rhyner ("Let's mosh..."). Mike, on the other hand, had zero interest in what the caller had to say.

  31. I wonder how long they will stay with the barely audible Ranger press conference before someone realizes that it is, in fact, barely audible. Assuming that its not just barely audible for me.

I have wondered the same thing @4:28. Maybe they are waiting for the Cowboy season to start if such a change is indeed going to happen?

And still a bit with no pay off seems to continue.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Agree KDF - with that bad audio the least they could have done was dumped the press conference and gone to a TW commercial on annuities with up to 25% bonuses.

  33. Hi, BK. You're back but with a different approach. Neat. Shall I give out the requisite contact info so MTC patrons can inquire about their financial matters?

  34. No I was literally just fucking around. Pulling your chain. I dont give a shit what you do with your money. Just pointing out the sham that is anyone who would advertise annuities with a 25% Bonus. Go ahead and get one of those annuities and enjoy your 25 percent bonus.

  35. Prediction:

George and Craig retire in November 2025

    The case:

Craig today said there's a very good chance that he will be retired "for most of (his daughter's) young childhood"

They both turn 60 in 2025 and October 2025 marks 30 years in morning drive. They signed contracts in November 2019, presumably a three year deal, which means they're up in November 2022 and will again be in November 2025

  36. 2026 Lineup:

    5:30-10 Hang Zone

    10-12 The Gordon Keith Experience

    12-3 Donnie and Justin

    3-7 Hardline

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well thought-out, Surly. I could live with that lineup. I especially liked your promotion of Justin (presumably Montemayor).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Excellent post Surly

Although with a 25 percent bonus on an annuity they could retire a little sooner than 2025.

  41. Plainsman - absolutely a joke. This is annuity troll guy. I am not in anyway involved in the financial industry. I'm involved in the science/engineering world. Obviously a joke although my original post was to warn people. Like I said above I actually don't give an F if you want to do it but just be warned that particular type is bogus with regard to the promises.

    Done trolling!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Please, thank you, let that be the last word

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, now that all of the financial bullshit is done with, let's get back to some good old speculation.

So, So Anonymous, where can one find these breadcrumbs? Other than some move with Cowlishaw, I neither see nor sniff any possible new horizon.

FWIW, there are rumors that everyone's fave, Chael, is going to The Eagle mornings. Perhaps with Pugs from the Pugs and Kelly show.

The only person I see returning is Rhyner. Yeah, I said it. Rhyner. I can see him taking over Norm's role. That's the one person Norm would bow down to and get the hell outta dodge for. Norm goes to special programming (drafts, one off shows), fill ins/drydock, and maybe Cow pre. Crazy bitch shit, maybe. But I can see it happening. Rhynes' is a thirsty dude. Always has been. He needs it, man.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The last thing anyone wants to admit is the world goes on when we are gone from the scene whether it be from the planet itself or a particular job. We tend to think we are indispensable but soon realize when gone nobody really cares. This goes for Rhynes and certainly for Sirois. I thought I would miss Danny but the world goes on with Davey et al. When the Musers hang it up it will take a few weeks or maybe a few months to adjust to a new morning reality but we will all move on to other sports talk or perhaps more music or podcasts. The globe will keep turning and nothing will really matter as we move towards our own mortality and the end of the earth, sun then the eventual heat death of the universe.

  47. With Big Strong leaving, are we going to be seeing even more of the Tier 3 and belows walking away? Seems like there’s been quite a turn recently.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes the proverbial floodgates have been opened. Too late in the game to think Tier 3's are going to elevate to any substantial position. Jake was likely the last lower Tier guy that will ever work his way systematically up the tier system. Dave Lane doesn't really count as he was a day 1 guy who came and went and came again.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am surprised as the sting Big Strong Jer's departure has. With to OGW and Danny I had largely checked out on the THL due to my dislike of Corby before either departure. I enjoyed Mikey a great deal but he hadn't been around as long as Big Strong. The Musers with Jer at the helm has been a constant in my life for half of my life. When I worked nights, the musers were my going home drive time and doing stuff around the house before bed sound track. Sure the station will go one etc, but I don't subscribe to the theory that the losses don't add up, for the listener. I haven't listened to the HardLine like I once did since Greggo flamed out. I haven't listened to THZ as much since Bob left and I haven't listened 10-Noon as much since Mikey left. I especially don't listen to 10-Noon if Donnie's out cause Norm, God love him, just can't carry a show alone anymore and its just depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not add onto the Nihilism Porn of 8/22 2:39 (and by that I mean the we all turn into dust, the earth is obliterated by the sun, the solar system/galaxy/then universe collapse and nothing we've ever done or will do will matter), but it is true that in two weeks' time it will be as if Jer was never at the station. We've seen this with Danny and Sirois. And in truth it'd be the same way with Rhynes if not for his nearly monthly or at least bi-monthly pop ons.

I am beginning to wonder if the small exodus of particular JV, who seem to be in ways connected, is indeed not a coincidence. There really is a rumor in the media bboard circle that Sirois will be on KEGL with Pugs from Pugs n Kelly--mornings, with no music, head to head v. The Musers. Recall Sirois on Gordon's Twitchcast. Recall especially his thoughts on Jer, Jer's salary, and all the "Jers" of The Ticket. I could easily see Sirois, Pugs, and Danny with Jer producing. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would anticipate more guys going. A bunch of guys had the job of their dreams, without the payout. But, eventually, when you are in your late 40s, early 50s... and there is no sniff of Tier 1 leaving, you have to move on.

Should The Little Ticket survive another 10 years, I think it will be a lot of new names. Meaning the young 30 year olds... or something really different. I don't see Dan B working for 10-15 years... Cat, not sure....

There is something cooking, even if it does not involve the recent departures, at least some will be involved.

Almost wish the Unticket had a list of contract info on each host, at least dates. Makes conjecture more fun.

    ReplyDelete
  52. We know the Musers signed a "long-term extension" in November 2019. General consensus is that 3 years is the standard in radio. That means they're up again soon.

Norm signed a 3 year extension in April 2014, which means he presumably re-signed in April 2017 and April 2020, putting him at April 2023 for his next one

BaD Radio's contracts were up in June of 2013, but who knows what and when each of their deals got re-worked. If they stayed on the same schedules, then theirs were up in June of 2016, 2019, and just this past June.

We also know Jake was up this summer and he almost left, so he should be good for 3 more years...assuming they gave him a 3-year deal.
    ,
Only thing I could find on Corby was from February 2009, so that would put him at 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021, and now at Feb 2024

Haven't ever seen anything about Donovan's contracts

    ReplyDelete
  53. Also notable is that an interview with the DMN Corby gave many years ago, he stated that after Greggo got booted and he was promoted to full time host, he had to wait out his old contract before he saw any bump in pay.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wonder what Danny, Jer, and Sirois' non-competes entail, assuming they had one in their contracts (?).

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm thinking Rhyner is starting up The Ticket 2.0 via podcasts. It's what he lives for: bunker mentality, Us V the world, F 'em all. The thing he created is now the 1000 lb gorilla. He thrives on being the underdog. The minute The Ticket became and remained #1 was when he began to check out. Long before the '10s, btw.

Sirois, Danny, Jer, and other local media types he digs, all under one umbrella. All funded with deep or at least semi deep pockets, a la the early days of The Little One (when it was little). Everyone earning a decent salary with benefits. Or if not at first, then the plan is for that to happen if the thing takes off.

Far fetched? Don't bet against it is all I'm saying.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Lol, Rhynes can’t be bothered to put out one podcast episode a month.

The whole DUB network thing is a Julie Dobbs joint

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anon 3:02
No way they had non competes. You only have a non-compete as part of long term contract that pays you out the remainder of contract if the station lets you go or on air talent quits to join a competitor - a non compete period would be built into the contract. No way any Tier 2 guy had a non compete...No way!

    ReplyDelete
  58. They have all moved on. Let it go.

    ReplyDelete
  59. There are plenty of good reasons to leave The Ticket (ex: new job with better pay, better hours, etc.) But one thing that you can't replace is having the audience that you had (unless you go national or move to other stations like Ben and Skin). Even though radio is dying, there's still something with the consistency and routine of tuning in everyday and listening live. Sure, you can do something on Twitch or have your own podcast but it still doesn't compare to the stage you had everyday on 96.7/1310.

Rhynes is great and even though I'm sure his podcasts are great, I just don't have the time to listen to all of them on top of already keeping up with The Ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Rhynes cranks out an episode at his leisure. A month between entries? His bag of effs to give is completely empty.

If Sirois was on in the early morn I'd be tempted to give it a listen.

    ReplyDelete
  61. If a Tier 2 had a chance to double his salary and status by jumping ship they would be a fool not to. This is no different than the business world where people frequently leave big successful well established top in industry companies for smaller less stellar companies that happen to give the person a better chance at way more money.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I find it "interesting" that Surly/Shaggy1310 "knows" Jer's salary (per reddit). He doesn't. No matter what info a UT football bulletin board populated with "Ticket insiders," to friends of Jr's ex wife to used to be or still claim to be Cumulus sales personnel or otherwise, etc.," information he has.....it isn't true. Jer earned between four to six years above his age. Which, while isn't bottle service money, it ain't shabby, either. As well, it is also the median salary for his position in the industry. Considering what he does...vis-a-vis the types of jobs and the pay earned by the vast majority of the world's populous (for all the Living Wage folks out there), he does (or did) just fine. His departure had nothing to do with pay. It was a lifestyle move, buddy. If you think for one second that Jer had Varsity host aspirations you are wrong. Step back for one moment and think about it. Jer is a very logical, straight forward, realistic individual. Do you actually think he wanted to be a host? After all these years. Getting up at that unholy hour. Really? He's leaving because it's time to begin a new chapter in his life. Period. End of story.

As to Rhyner, Sirois, Danny, Julie, and a podcasting network: No. There, Surly/Shaggy1310 is correct. And for the very reason he states. Mike is retired. While in his mid to late 30s, for the first and only time in his life, Mike caught a wind of energy, of conviction, of direction, and spearheaded The Ticket. And holy shit did he hit the motherlode. God bless him for it. I'll always be grateful. Other than that, Mike is, how shall I say, unmotivated; and to this day has, basically, the very same interests of 22 year old Mike . Yes, he's in his 70s. If you can't see the big picture, well, I don't know what to say other than Mike ain't starting no Podcast Ticket Bunker Mentality FTW 2.0. No way. No how.

As far Danny goes, he's done. Came on for the Grease segment and sadly, what a scant 2 and 1/2 - 3 months later?, it already sounded as if The Ghosts of Expo and Kevin Scott Past popped on. Meaning: "uh, who are you again?" meets "I guess this once meant something?" (c.f., Irish Laddy's or any other blast from the past pop ons). Yes, the one hit wonder factor kicks into effect THAT fast, people -- even if the "one hit wonder" artist actually had 5 top ten hits. Funny how memory makes history. Having said that, Danny's one helluva f'n talened guy and I wish him nothing but the best. Hope he keeps putting out solid jams.

Julie and Sirois are peas in a pod. Both are parched. Not enough tanks of Sparkletts in reserve to sate their thirsty thirsts. Rest assured, Julie is now and will always be living her best life. Don't you fret about her Living Wage. That's not to say she isn't talented. She is. But there are also far more deserving and hard grinding talents out there who happen to be female that have been at it far longer and have worked themselves far deeper into the trenches that more than deserve a shot. Julie's had a pretty f'n easy ride in this biz. Don't shit on her natural talent, as she is talented. But also, don't make her out to be something she's not. Sirois is driven by one thing: fame. Fame, no matter the level; be it the local, regional, national or the world stage. Fame. There's a reason he got to where he did (at The Ticket) and there's a reason why he went no further. The Ticket is not the platform best suited to his forte; it is neither the means nor the by which he can achieve his goals. Godspeed to him. I hope he gets what he wants.

  63. Some of what 1:11 AM says rings true. Some of it, who knows. I kind of think 1:11 AM doesn't actually know her/himself but rather is playing at barstool psychologist. One who counsels a clientele s/he has never met.

The only thing about the meta picture of the future of The Ticket I can say is that I do know that The Musers' contracts expire in 2025. Basically they'll complete their 30th year on-air going into DryDock of '24 and will enter into their 31st in Jan of '25 and at that point of entry their current contracts will expire. I know this is the actual case because my wife's BF's husband is one of the three's attorney. Norm's contract runs out in two years. I'm not sure about members of The Hardline. Barring death or debilitating illness, Norm will finish out his 50th year and then retire. The Musers, from what has been INTIMATED to me (not said as if etched in stone), will retire as a show after their current contract expires. My gut tells me The Hardline will stay put. Point being, in 2-1/2 - 3 years, the station is going to look and sound different. No longer will a Day 1'er, a Musketeer, OG Varsity member exist. Corby will be the most senior member, and will in fact be the oldest host. My gut also tells me that other than all new talent will not consist of JV members brought along. Jake, and to a certain extent Davey, was an anomaly.

As I indicated, some of this constitutes educated guesses. But the contract stuff regarding The Musers and Norm (not the retirement parts) is absolutely legit. The next couple of three years are going to be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "My gut also tells me that other than all new talent will not consist of JV members brought along. Jake, and to a certain extent Davey, was an anomaly."

Supposed to read: My gut also tells me that none of the new talent will consist of JV members brought along and nurtured like Jake was. That was an anomaly.

Julie did TV for a decade and defeated cancer. I wouldn't call that a f'n easy ride.

  66. A change of topic from speculating on the future of the little ticket. I think Gordo's worse bit is giving out the phone number for a tip line or crime stoppers in his incomprehensible manner. I don't get any bit of humor in it and its just annoying. I can't for the life of me understand why he's clung to it for all these years. Is it funny to a large percentage of the audience and I just don't get it? Is there a large group of people holding up their lighters when he starts it?

    Don't talk
Don't talk, don't talk to him
    Nobody, nobody ever told you

Now tell me, how's life in the big city?
    I hear the competition's tough; baby, that's a pity
And every man's an actor; every girl is pretty
I don't like what's gettin' back to me

Now, who's this Don Juan I've been hearing of?
Love hurts when only one's in love
Now, did ya fall at first sight or did you need a shove?
    I'm beggin' you, please

    Don't talk to strangers
    Baby, dont'cha talk
    Don't talk to strangers
You know he'll only use you up
    Don't talk, don't talk
    Don't talk
Don't talk, don't talk to him
    Nobody, nobody ever told you

Is this a subtle hint that Rick Springfield will be taking Jeremy's morning board op position? I think so.

  70. @KDF. I don't get the numbers bit either especially considering it's doing nothing more than taking an already small chance that a tip will solve the case and making it smaller.

I do know, however, that the first thought to enter Gordo's mind each morning when that 4:00 AM alarm goes off.

"What can I do today to annoy George?"

We know Jub is a willing accomplice but it's been gold for 25 years.

Stay hard Jer. I'm an hour ahead and start my days early so the Musers have been a part of my mid-morning routine for 20+ years. You were a big part of that. Your dry humor and witty selection/timing of drops will be missed.

Well I was sure that I heard the Director yell,
    "Take it from the start"
And I could feel my body crushing yours
As the camera dollied into place
Your husband's in the front row,
I couldn't look him in the face

Part of the pleasure was that it felt so wrong
But it grew too fast, too strong

Don't you think your friends are talking Alyson?
They're blaming it all on me
I'm blaming it all on love

Well don't you think your friends
    are talking Alyson?
    Just a little sexual tension
    Under the guise of love

  73. I can see the path you're cutting
It cost me a little piece of my heart
I can see the doors you're shutting
'Cause they were open at the start
Baby, loving you has been hard on me
You're such a tough little sister
    Just looking for Mr. Right
On the wrong side of town
    You better love somebody
    It's late
    You better love somebody
    Don't wait
    You better love somebody
    Don't tempt, fate
You're gonna pull it just a little too far
    One night

Your eyes are wild, your skin's so white
    You're undernourished and overfed
She's got the teeth, she knows how to bite
    When you bit, I bled
You got the perfect image of the perfect man
    You're a tough little sister
But you'll settle for a mister tonight
But you're running out of time
    You better love somebody
    It's late
    You better love somebody
    Don't wait
    You better love somebody
    Don't tempt fate
You're gonna pull you just a little too far
    One night
I'm only saying what I feel
You think I'm wrong, I know
You thought I was sleeping at the wheel
I thought that you were driving

    You better love somebody
    You better love somebody
    You better love somebody
    It's late
    You better love somebody
    Don't wait
    You better love somebody
    Don't tempt, fate
You're gonna push it just a little too far
    One night
One night, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
One night, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
One night, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
One night, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

There doesn't seem to be a reason to change

I wanna tell her that I love her, but the point is probably moot
'Cause she's watching him with those eyes
And she's loving him with that body, I just know it
And he's holding her in his arms late, late at night

    Hungry to touch
    I'm eager to please
    Out of control
And I hand you the keys
    Every night I am burning
    To make love to you

But don't try to tell me
    you think it's all physical
It goes much deeper than that

    You ought to know
It's an affair of the heart
It's an affair of the heart
It's an affair of the heart
Have a little blind faith, believe
It's an affair of the heart

I'm like a working class dog and I just get by
Tonight I'm crawlin' out from in it
We know we're livin' on the brink
Second by second, by minute, by minute
    Love is alright, tonight
    We're gonna be alright
    Love is alright, tonight
Love is al-, love is alright, tonight

And they got names for dirty little girls like you, honey
It ain't nice, but they call you "everybody's girl"
And they say: "Here she comes, here she comes, here she comes"
And they say: " here she comes, here she comes, here she comes
    There goes everybody's girl
    Everybody's girl, everybody's girl, everybody's girl"

Baby, help me listen to my heart
And then take me to the top
I'm afraid of love, so afraid of love

And I'm scared to make it right
But I know tonight, that it's my last chance
My last shot with real love and I want to take it
Last chance in the slow dance, in the big time

And I want to make it tonight
You're gonna show what love is and why
Between the sweat and the lovin',
    The whisper and the cry

I'm so tired of all this shit that I feel
    Show me something real

Carry me away, baby, carry me away
I'm in love with you tonight, feels so right
Carry me away, come on, carry me away
I want to be with you, what can I do?
You've got the power, you've got the love
To take me to heaven or to lead me to heartbreak

  79. From August 27, 849:

"The only thing about the meta picture of the future of The Ticket I can say is that I do know that The Musers' contracts expire in 2025. Basically they'll complete their 30th year on-air going into DryDock of '24 and will enter into their 31st in Jan of '25 and at that point of entry their current contracts will expire. I know this is the actual case because my wife's BF's husband is one of the three's attorney."

Well, if I were "one of the three," I'd be finding out whether my lawyer has been talking to his wife about my affairs, with the result that they ended up in a comment in My Ticket Confession. And then reaming him a new one, if not discharging him altogether.

  89. I disagree, Surly. That's a progressive narrative; one that if true, works both ways.

Regardless, I have faith in the average P1. S/He likes to be well-informed. As a parent of two high schoolers (public), I can tell you they are quite aware of the ugly, racist aspects of Dallas and Texas' past (and the fight against it) and the truth about the Alamo -- as well as the US-Mexican War, which is another unsavory episode in our historical narrative.

    ReplyDelete
  90. You must not be aware of the feedback they get when they have socialist commies on their show

    ReplyDelete
  91. I guess not. Is it possible that they take one or a few poorly formed individuals and their emails/Tweets to overrepresent? Kind of like how the author of any email/Tweet that dissents in opinion from either Gordon or Corby takes on a sort of Ed Carter cum Big Jim Jack voice. A few doesn't represent the many. But perhaps the situation is as you put it. (I won't address the socialist commie bait, other than to say I won't address it.) And then again, the funny caricatures (no mistake about it, they are funny) and the opportunity to state one's bona fides makes for better radio, I would think.

Yet I'm just a dum dum Burkean - Berry - Hume sorta guy, so what do I know.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Surly,
I am confused - anyone that points out some of the more unsavory elements of our past, slavery, institutional racism, Jim Crow laws, white Christo-fascist nationalism is automatically a socialist commie? Plenty of us wealthier white collar well educated millionaires out here that support the traditional GOP pro business policies but don't support this far right revisionist history of events.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Dan and Jake were the ones that made the "socialist commie" comments

    ReplyDelete
  94. Dan makes some assumptions I don't think are accurate in his Alamo narrative. The assumption that people take it or any history as 100% accurate is chief among them. I would think that most people know that any history, unless its an eye witness account by some third party with no vested interest in the out come of the event, is likely skewed in how it presents the story.

The old adage of History is written by the Victor didn't come about by accident.

Are their inaccuracies in the traditional Alamo account? Yes.

Is the account of events in Forget the Alamo 100% the truth as it happened: I don't know I know there are many historians who disagree with them.

The problem in any of this is trying to simplify things to a binary truth when that isn't how any event in human history has happened. That's the flaw in most of how history has been taught in this country on a public school basic level for decades.

The American Revolution, the Texas Revolution, The Mexican American War, the Civil War or any war in human history are incredibly complex events that had a multitude of issues that aren't going to be summed up or correctly recorded by any one source or properly understood by a segment on a sports radio show. Outside of the Axis powers in World War II I can't think of a situation where there was clearly a good side and a bad side. Even then we had Stalin on our side so how clear cut is that? How much of what Stalin did to his own people gets swept under the rug of he played a huge role in stopping Hitler?

I don't need or want Dan to tell me what happened at the Alamo. I don't need or want anyone on the ticket to tell me anything about history or any complex issues because in the 25 years of listening to them they have never once struck me as having a greater understanding of those events than any average guy I'd talk to on the street.

Dan's I'm smarter than you, passive aggressive persona is why I don't listen to the Hangzone anymore. After 20+ years of listening to him I decided it wasn't worth the aggravation.

@ Anon 5:58 There is almost nothing the host can do that makes me punch out faster than them taking on the "dumb rural southern" accent for a point of view they have disdain for. This is especially true of those host that are actually from here and should now how untrue that stereotype is. There are plenty of racist, bigoted, ignorant, hateful people that have any number of other accents.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Purely a ticket subject I think Jer's absence is being greatly felt in AM Ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Well, KDF, the most racist folks I've ever ever ever run into were located in 4 places: Easter Pennslyvania, Massachusettes (esp. Boston area), Oregon, and in and around the Le Mans area of France. None, not a one had a Southern/rural drawl/accent. It's easy to play "I'm Against The Grain Guy" here in Texas, especially in the 'burbs in Collin County.
