Ooo, Tension!

  1. Did anyone catch the handoff between the Musers and Norm-and-D on Tuesday? It concluded with what sounded to me like a sincerely pissed-off George and a who-me? Dan having at one another for a bit.

Like most of these handoffs where many people are talking at once, the exact source of George's aggravation with Dan was hard to pinpoint, but it seemed to have something to do with George saying the ads to follow would be three minutes, and Dan suggested that they would really be six minutes. (I was driving and couldn't rewind or write anything down.) Whatever it was, I thought George was truly aggravated with Dan and they went back and forth for a bit.

Anyone else hear this who might clarify what went on?

From time to time I think about doing a longer-form Dan piece. To me, far more than Corby, he is the polarizing host. He's also smart and can be funny.

But there's always a "but." Lemme think about it.

  2. I hadn't read the last few comments to the last thread before starting this one, and they reminded me that there may have been a Ty angle to the tense handoff on Tuesday.

    That Dan -- he's a caution.

  3. Dan didn't appear in the Musers-Norm & D mix on Tuesday so not sure what you're talking about

  4. Oh, it was during roundtables on Tuesday. Dan joked that during the musers' power hour, the musers will end a segment and say they'll be back in 3 minutes when it always ends up actually being 5 or 6 instead. They all kind of laughed--notably Junior, who also does that fake "3 minutes" tease. Then Dan and George recreated the Lee Corso fight. Did you not recognize that?

  5. I did recognize the Lee Corso reference but I thought there was a real edge to their exchange. The Corso reference wasn't intended to be amusing on its own, but to dial down what was starting to get chippy. And Junior -- he's a nervous laugher, which he has perfected in having been the audience for Gordon's presentations all these years.

On the return, neither George nor Dan were on the roundtable, if I'm recalling correctly.

It was not a big deal -- just more evidence, if any was required, that Dan seldom misses a chance to run down other shows on-air, not to mention tier-challenged staffers.

  6. Dan has become intolerable for me. I’ve listened to more of 12 to 7 this week than in any time since the Old Grey Wolf departed but Dan and Corbie can get me on a podcast or music pretty quickly. Again all credit to both for their careers, people tell me that Dan is a genius at radio so I’m not going to argue his talent but his persona just rubs me the wrong way. Gordo does to on many occasions but I like Jub and Junior enough to fit through it. I sadly don’t like Dan or Bob enough to fight through it. I was a young twenty something in a high pressure dead line world when I twisted off on someone and told them to shut the eff up long enough to explain to them the issue with the project. That’s was close to 30 years ago and I’ve not done it since. I’m amazed that Dan has gotten away with it the times he has. Tom is the only one that ever fired back and look were that got him so clearly Dan didn’t get taken to task for it. Dan, Corbie and Gordo are all the types that a) know how to get under your skin and b) run and hide behind it’s just a joke, humor, playing radio when they get the reaction they wanted in order to not be the bad guy.

Once again my phone won’t let me sign in.

    KDF.

  7. Innarestin' little seggo on today's 'line about the GXD journo piece and how Cumulus stepped up and fixed this shit Rich. Because ya know, what with everyone leaving and stuff and whatyouwhozit. GXD also addressed how he didn't stab Danny or what's his name (I kid, Sirois/Chael/Mike/Mikey) in the back in order to get the posish. Did I buy? Naw. But it was kinda funny how they felt the need to address it. Makes you wonder why they did. Isn't like there's not a shit ton of seggie material at The Ox (I'm saaaawwwwwrrrreeeee, Norm, that never did catch on....did it, pal) with which to fill up the show. Like for instance the revelation that Corbles could've easily been cancelled last time there for his comedy routine on the way back from the medjia party. So so so suprised he or someone else(s) have yet to feel the wrath.

  8. Prediction:

Norm will announce his retirement toward the end of this calendar year (early Nov., which will give a solid month+ for a final victory lap/farewell tour). Cowlishaw will be his replacement. After Drydock Dec.'22 - Jan.'23, the M-F schedule will be as follows: D&M&K 5:30-9; DaC 9-12; THZ 12-3; THL 3-7.

    Interesting concept. Why Cowlishaw?

  10. From Kiplinger regarding the annuity trap advertised by TW on the Ticket...you know 25% bonus with 11 or 12 annual percent guarantees

The Strong Case Against Buying Annuities
Financial advisers recommend them because they make a lot of money in commissions and fees. You should be very, very wary.

MetLife recently paid a record $25 million fine to settle FINRA allegations of misleading and misrepresenting investors with annuities. Unfortunately, this practice of overselling and misleading clients with promises of great returns for annuities is common throughout the industry.

As a fee-only, non-commission adviser, I've never liked annuities because I know their sole purpose is to generate commission for advisers. Here's the insider view on how the typical annuity pay structure works—a view few investors ever get to see.

Advisers take roughly 6% to 8% of the "notional," or conjectural, investment as a commission, as well as a portion of the annual annuity fees, paid to them as "commission trails."

Next comment will appertain to something about your LLC -- ya know, hoping for someone to say, "say, what sorta LLC is a guy like you fronting??? I mean, what would YOU suggest a guy like me put his money into?" and from there cue "cha-chiiiiiing." Sorry, man, I don't think anyone here's gonna bite. But I can't blame ya for trying. Dude's gotta earn bank. Am I right? Guys? Guys?

The "As a fee-only, non-commission advisor" line is the tell. That and taking the time to post all that.

    Anywho.

You don't seem to understand the definition of fee only... Means they charge a set fee either by session or by the hour or a set percentage of total assets under management but DONT extract commissions and fees from selling "products". Products like annuities which end up ripping up to 30 or 35% of the investors total assets in the form of commissions over the term of the annuity. Garbage product for the investor, a gold mine for TW and others in his ilk. Go ahead and invest in annuities if you would like but realize you are making the salesman rich and not yourself.

  13. Guys. It's not even Business Tuesday here

  14. Yeah. I'm fine with comments on the commercials, I do it a lot here. But I don't want to have to register this site as an investment advisor.

  15. Sorry, 637am, I nailed it. Go pedal it elsewhere.
