A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
Question for those of you who are following – or who know how to get info about – Dan and Jake's National Labor Relations Board complaints.
A couple of posts ago, someone left a comment that those complaints were still live and making their way through the NLRB's processes.
I am not very knowledgeable about these proceedings, but I do know that complainants may withdraw their complaints. There's a form for it.
It's my understanding, however, that while the NLRB favors settlements, it is not bound to dismiss a proceeding/investigation at the complainant's request. It's a little hard to believe that the NLRB would not honor a request to dismiss complaints arising out of a garden-variety employment dispute. But perhaps, as has been suggested, it's looking for a way to make noncompetes illegal, and have latched on to Dan and Jake's story.
Another possibility is that the settlement between Cumulus and Dan/Jake did not include the requirement that they voluntarily dismiss their NLRB complaints. Or that the settlement would not become final until the NLRB dismissed, or permitted withdrawal, of those complaints.
I was going to say "It's inconceivable that Cumulus counsel did not include this as a requirement for settlement," but given their questionable conduct of Cumulus's defense in this matter, perhaps not so inconceivable.
On another subject: I haven't dug too deep to find out whether there is some colossal change about to take place as some recent comments have claimed. Such claims are almost always wrong.
But not always wrong.
I do have it on fair-to-good authority that nothing is up with the Musers.
Of course, after all these years, there is bound to be change, and an end to things that have been around a long time. We saw it just last year. The persons claiming seismic change will eventually be right.
Fernando retiring...does that make it more or less likely the musers are retiring in the next few weeks? I am obviously hoping the musers stick around a while, but I guess I would have thought Fernando might just retire the same time they do if that was the case.
Fernando leaving is a bit of a surprise but mostly because he's just so firmly in the background that he doesn't come to mind very often. He's just consistent and constant and does his job. It will be interesting to see who the have fill his spot and what changes if any they might bring to the Musers.
Tom Gribble moves down the hall from KSCS AM drive to KTCK AM drive. And if Hawkeye doesn’t let that happen I’m sure they’ll just yo-yo DJR back to mornings. He’s cheap and has already proven that he won’t pop on regularly in the show, which seems to be what the Musers value the most from their crew
Forgot to mention that this is The FAN's 6th book in a row where their numbers increased. That predates Cowboy training camp, much less the pre/regular season. Also, a familiar refrain here, but at what point does iHeart pull the plug on The Freak?
Do you believe that DnM's retirement will open the door for TF's success? They're #26 in the market. TT is in no way even remotely their competition. Try KSKY and WRR. Or do you think if DnM go that TDZ could step in and away TF goes? If so, I have to strongly disagree with you. I'm happy DnJ are thus far faring well. While they seem to have a very loyal and dedicated audience, their numbers are small beer compared to the amount of listeners and the general exposure of terrestrial radio. The longer they're out of the public eye, the less the impact they would make if they returned to the airwaves. Ask Rhyner, if he's in an honest mood he'll tell you. He was barely out of the game for 2 years, and the data shows the majority of his once vast, rabidly adoring audience moved on. The 2 year interim between radio gigs had Rhyner hosting pods, doing a pod/video weekly, writing for an online sports outlet, a documentary about his life was filmed and released with much local hoopla, would go on-air with all Ticket shows, and was roundly and rightly feted by every local media outlet over and again.......and yet TF and the shows he's been a part of have been an absolute disaster.
I'm sure when a format change happens, they are typically given X amount of time to try and prove themselves. I don't know if that is 1, 2, 3 years or what, but I imagine the big wigs recognize that something will take time to have success. But we know the big wigs are already questioning things because they got a PD and did a show shuffle change-up. If there continues to be no improvement, i'm guessing it isn't long before they are gone.
00110011: The success of the Rangers have helped here too. If the Mavs do well and we don't get a December slump from the Cowboys the next few months could be interesting between the two stations.
The fact that B&S is higher rated than the Downbeat boggles my mind. I find B&S utterly unlistenable. I assume it is partially due to morning drive being much more competitive than mid-day.
Very intetesting numbers. HL down, all other shows are up. Well done, FAN. And let me somewhat eat my words and give a hearty congrats to TF, all dayparts. While still far back at #26 overall, they've made meaningful strides. Perhaps they will be given more time by iHeart. Both The Invasion and TSS are growing. The latter, outpacing THZ this time last yeat - and during an historical ratings run, I might add. The DFW is now the largest populous metro in Texas. It is the 4/6th largest market in the US. Looking more and more like there's room for everyone, including TDZ. I highly suggest you all head over to redfit and read Peter's excellent breakdown.
When they finally update the stupid TV/Radio market data DFW will be the 4th largest media market in the country. Only a little over a million short of becoming the 3rd largest metro area in the country jumping over Chicago likely early next decade. DFW is turning into a monster
Tomorrow's White Elephant Day. If something is going down with either DnM or anyone else, why do it then? Especially if it's a Muser, as they won't all be together. I was unable to listen today. Was the station announcment presented as something important/big? Usually when they are, there's somewhat of an indicator that change is coming.
You know who else is having a major announcement tomorrow? TDZ. You know who's reddit page now has as many average comments and posts as TF's? TDZ. You know who's reddit page, while still more active than either TDZ or TF's has cooled off substantially? TT. Ditto MTC. Numbers tell the story. TT is king of terrestrial. TDZ for the time being appears to have plateaued and holding steady at a more than decent number. A number that affords them their previous income, perks, insurance, benefits, etc....along with paying an employee(s) healthy wages with insurance and benefits? Dunno. But this week-ish would mark the end of their NC sans legal case. Perhaps part of the settlement was to adhere to that original timeframe. Meaning, if so, they'd be free to get their freak or anything else on. Tomorrow might end up be a most interesting Hump/White Elephant Day.
It’s always funny to me how the new competitors, the freak last year, and tdz this year, act like they aren’t competing with the ticket, but try to do something on WED. I dont really get why. People would be more likely to check out the other special events on non-WED days.
TDZ doesn't have to go live or even post up a prerecorded pod tomorrow to make an announcement. They made the announcement that there would be an announcement tomorrow. As a Zoner one would gather you of all people would be better informed.
My guess is the station announcement is Normathon related. It is happening during the traditional Norm crosstalk time frame. I can't imagine that would announce something as big as a Muser leaving during white elephant day.
Twice now. It is a bit sad to me that so many people important to the unprecedented sucsess of the little one will not be there for the 30th anniversary celebration.
None of these guys are very good for any sustainable period of time without structure imposed upon them from above. See: Gordon's Twitch streams, Sirois' Twitch streams, that no Freak show could break 2.0 until they got a pd in there, all of Rhyners' post Ticket endeavors, and yes, The Dumb Zone and It's Just Banter. The latter is unlistenable with all the bogging, ums, likes, and using fuck as a verbal crutch;, the former suffers from much the same, only with a sonewhat higher profile and a lot more subs.
For me Gordo is at his best when someone is keeping him somewhat in check. He and Davey bring out each other's worst instincts I think. Gordo controlled is genius, Gordo with ultimate freedom is a hard listen for me. I did enjoy the morning show of White Elephant and I enjoyed the WP/Rant show for about an hour before it just overloaded my old man sensibilities.
Don't leave money in a 401k even if it is world class like Vanguard or Fidelity when you can come on over to Trajan "Wealth" and be locked into inflexible, high commission, horrible quality investments err insurance annuities. Love me those ads on The Ticket.
Do you one better. Trajan just said in a new Ticket add that we should get involved in private equity. They claim that's where all the big boys play. These guys might as well call the P1s and ask for their debit card number, pin and card expiration dates.
White Elephant Day was pretty solid. 2-6 was the best...3 guys who get along with everyone and just want to have fun without trrying to stir the pot with anyone. 10-2 was hit/miss. Some good bits but some reaches. I think Gordo's impact is always overrated on this day every year...he either mails it in and lets the others do most of the work or he is just interested in causing chaos and making things awkward, which isn't always a good listen. The morning show was predictable but they tried
Corby wore on me when they were talking about christmas music but that's just my personal issues with the tone he takes when he's sure he's so much more right about something than any other human who has ever lived, but I agree with your assessment otherwise. Despite my probably unfair dislike of Corby he was okay for 99% of the show. 10 to 2 was good for about an hour and then it was just chaos for the rest of the time. Not my prefered listening experience at all.
Barely any buzz or comments here about WED. It's usually the most active day on this site. If that doesn't tell you the state of affairs on the Ticket, I don't know what will.
It tells you nothing. Wanna know what does? Their ratings. And yeah, their ratings are fantastic. Including the fact that both The Invasion and The Sweet Spot are pulling in bigger numbers than either The Invasion with Norm or The Hang Zone did this time last year when The Ticket was having an historical ratings run. Try again, friend. Try harder, as well. #TheCultIsReal
I'll do one better. If you actually believe that, then you must also think the state of TDZ is sliding and sliding fast. TDZ reddit has slowed down to a crawl with the same 3 people making comments and the same 5 people plus the OG 3 commenting on the comments. I doubt you believe TDZ is fading. Quite the opposite in fact. Why else would you make the comment. #TheCultIsReal
This will be an interesting Dry Dock period since so many of the JV are now on the varsity. I am wondering who they will roll out that will be listenable.
Shaggy? ShaggyBevo? Shaggy1310? Surly? SurlyOrangeBlood? SurlyBevo? OrangeBlood? Where you at, man? No sight of you here in months, and silence on all the reddit pages. Perhaps a new moniker(s) is in play? Here's hoping my #1 all time troll is doing well. You ought to be, considering your dear Horns are in the playoffs.
Stop with the childish stuff. No one is going anywhere—not soon. The bunker is more bunker than ever, thanks to Dan and Jake. Absolute traitorous move, to the Mothership. Bob is disappointed. Corby and his wife are furious. Jub? Craig? Gordon? Don’t get it twisted. These are battlers. When they retire, the country will hear of it.
Also Matt is there to take up where Jake left. A reliable sports guy, but he can mix with the Rant.
Don’t like it ? Thats okay: a lot are coming around. Nothing is changing.
Bees be buzzin'. Birds be chirpin'. Watercoolers be scuttle buttin'. Wanna know what's being said? Sure ya do. Somebody's retiring for the second time. Ain't returning from drydock. Then again, a lot of those in the know say he's been on drydock for at least 14 years.
Vdan? When did Dan become Vdan and what does it mean? If it means Vagina Dan, well, that's depressing. He's 54 years old. If it is, then I guess he really is becoming his hero, Rhyner. As far as TDZ going to The Freak at the first of the year goes, I think it's highly likely. I also think it's the last ditch effort to save the format before iHeart pulls the plug.

ReplyDeleteTicket #2 in the market with a killer 5.6. The FAN #5 with a very healthy 4.1 (ditto what Gopher said). The Freak #26 with a (format) killing 1.6.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Peter's daypart breakdowns.
Forgot to mention that this is The FAN's 6th book in a row where their numbers increased. That predates Cowboy training camp, much less the pre/regular season. Also, a familiar refrain here, but at what point does iHeart pull the plug on The Freak?
ReplyDeleteDoes Rhyner have inside information on when the Musers will pull the plug? Can iHeart wait that out?
ReplyDeleteDo you believe that DnM's retirement will open the door for TF's success? They're #26 in the market. TT is in no way even remotely their competition. Try KSKY and WRR.
