A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
How could I, proprietor of Your Source for Responsible Ticket Journalism, let the 30th Anniversary of the founding of The Ticket passed unremarked upon?
I have two excuses, neither of them good: (1) I have switched my main calendar from the sublime and wonderful (but computer-based) Lotus Organizer, at least 30 years old itself, to the Google calendar on iPad, and I did not migrate every single anniversary of note. (2) My former employer engaged me to assist with an issue it's having and I'm jammed.
But here I finally am, and Your Plainsman, on behalf of My Ticket Confession, wishes all present and past Ticketeers a very happy anniversary.
I'm not a part of it, but it's cool to be a part of it.
* Not saying you're misinformed or bs-ing, CJK5H, but where are you getting those numbers for TDZ reddit? If true, they seem rather empty, as it's literally the same 8 people making comments, commenting, and commenting on their own comments. No different than r/TheFreak.
* Speaking of TDZ and reddit. Pretty interesting over there. First off, anyone and I mean ANYONE who deigns to offer the slightest degree of constructive criticism or the likes is immediately banished to the dark exterior corridors to wail and gnash their teeth (always by the same 8 people). It's downright weird and in some sense frightening. 98% of the critiques are prefaced with sheepish qualifiers that border on conditioning. E.g., "I in no way mean this as a criticism and I'm sure it's because they're so busy doing amazing things I don't know about, but I wish they would have a regular schedule." This innoucous, pathetically put quip is met with a cascade of castigating, keyboard warrior cutdowns. All designed to deter any discourse that isn't hagiographical in nature. Like I said, it's interesting yet in a way disturbing to watch take place.
*TDZ to TF? I was never in that camp. Wasn't. Not so sure now. MOre on that later. Anyone been digging around r/TheFreak? If you have, then you will see many indicators from none other than KT that things are no longer all knee slaps, haw haws, glad I'm at the bestest place in the world, ain't we the bestest people of all time and deserve this while we say what we want good time party that we've been led to believe. Quite the opposite, in fact. A quick listen to any show will evince this, as well. They are no longer saying exactly what they want. No more show crosstalk. Keeping away from certain subjects. Far less self-promo. Hosts making on-air and social media digs at iHeart and TF regarding support, direction, competency, and all the rest (sound familiar?). Hosts basically admitting they don't know how much longer they/the format will be around. As the kids say, all the things. Now the 8 constant reddit contributors are asking questions like: "do ratings matter, because it seems like our champs are doing awfully and staying steady"; and making comments such as: "From what Danny is saying in a not so veiled manner, I'm thinking the future isn't looking good."
* TDZ to TF. Seems that iHeart is for the time committed to this format and believes it can work here. Take into consideration TDZ's Feb. 1 NC past due date and all of the above, I now see a place for them at TF. Even more so if certain prognosticators are correct about DnM announcing their retirement. We'll see. Then again, I've also come to believe neither J nor D are the 4-D chess masters that many hold them as. Quite the opposite.
*Congrats to TT for 30 years. What a ride. Ups, downs, and all the inbetweens. I've been there for it all and will continue to until the ship finally rests at the bottom of The Trinity's Elm Fork.
Finally. Good to see the Shaggy moniker make an appearance. That and hey, C, where you been, my dude?
Good stuff, renfield's. Did anyone hear Corby yesterday (1/24) talk about the time when he was a hair away from going to a competitor for a lot more money, but at the last minute decided against it? He also said he was being strongly pushed to take the deal. It wasn't too difficult to figure out who that person was. Rhyner. This possibly sheds a great deal of light on the entire Rhyner/Ticket/Corby/Freak dynamic. Recall that Rhyner has also talked about a lucrative opportunity to join The FAN that came a whisper away from fruition.
My uneducated, purely speculative guess is as follows. Rhyner wanted out of The Ticket. He didn't like Cumulus, thought they were too controlling, and had come to view both Cat and Bennett (once bunkermates) as the enemy. The deal with CBS (FAN) was a package one. They wanted THL. Rhyner leaned hard on Corby to go through with it, that they'd earn more money, be the sole anchor (as opposed to co-anchoring with The Musers), and as a result they'd have all the power to negotiate whatever they wanted in the future. Not to mention that they could stick it to "The Man," that is, Cumulus, represented by Cat and Bennett. At the last minute, Corby balks. This sends Rhyner through the roof, because it's 1. a package deal, and 2. even if they take only him, he doesn't want to carry a show by himself or have to deal with a new partner and all that that implies. THL stays put. It was at that time when full bore, checked out Rhyner came to the fore and remained as such until his so-called Irish Exit. He never forgave Corby, seeing Corby's decision as a betrayal of sorts. After all, it was he who made Corby what he'd become (at least in his mind). From that point forward, Corby was a company man who's loyalties resided with Cat, his high school mate (Bennett, too).
This is why once The Freak plan was announced Rhyner said explicitly, and made allusions to, Corby choosing his path, his allegiances. It's also why Corby made the "unconscionable" commnet, and it could explain his wife's public finger wagging.
There's a lot more that can be drawn from this, but you get the picture.
That makes a lot of sense. I think Bob also hinted that the decision not to go to the Fan when he and Dan were almost out the door changed is and Dan's relationship as well. For me it makes Corby's attitude make less sense. He made a decision, without consultation and at the last minute, that effected others based on what he thought was best for him. That's not any different than what Rhyner or D&J did. So it comes off as a bit hypocritical to me that he'd be so offended by someone else doing the same thing. Again I don't think there are any good guys in any of the behind the scene stuff that went down.
We don't really have any idea how the Corby situation with possibly leaving went. If I had to guess how it went was the Fan came to Mike or Mike and Corby and presented an offer, Mike pushing for them to take offer, Corby not as interested, over time, Mike starts to persuade Corby, Corby at the end realizes he doesn't want to.
@in house, It was an odd comment from Bob when Corby mentioned making the decision to stay. Bob said something to the effect that they had very similar stories about almost leaving and then deciding to stay and that they made those decisions without consulting other parties which changed things between them and those parties. I was in the process of getting out of the car and bringing in groceries so that is what I gathered from the comment. It struck me as odd because the Bad to the Fan thing was, as you wrote, long ago. I just wondered if relations with Bob and Dan had been strained since that time and Bob going to drive time was the final straw. Its also possible that the change Bob was talking about making without consulting others was moving to Drive Time.
Rhyner, the guy who mailed it in for 10 years and retired without any real notice is claiming Corby wasn't a team player? Lol, I'm obviously biased because I prefer Corby but come on
Renfield, you can see how many subscribers a sub Reddit has. Currently, 2,687. But I check It out from time to time and you’re completely right. Same few people commenting. And the way people complain is hilarious, “I’m not complaining. I love what they’re doing….but” also the talks about them not working during drydock was hilarious. So many too chicken shit to complain. It was the same way back when THZ was still on the ticket though, if you made one complaint about Dan or the show, the HZ army was sure to follow with downvotes. Odd group honestly lol.
Started listening in 2007 with my dad going to school, muse in the news. Still talk to him about it regularly. Definitely something we bond over. Haven’t stopped since, cheers.
I came to the ticket in a strange way. I had listened off and one from when it started but not a P1 at all. I worked at the same place as my father doing photo retouching, scanning and lots of photoshop work. He had an ancient AM radio on his desk that was always tuned to 1080. He passed in 1999 and since I did the same job as him just at night rather than during the day I found myself sitting at his desk the day after his funeral looking at that ancient radio. I couldn't bare to listen to 1080, not just because it bored me but because that was a sound that I associated with my dad. Since it was an AM only radio I had limited choices so I ended up on the Ticket. They helped me get through a really hard time of feeling like I was working with my dad's ghost watching over my shoulder. I listen less now but the Musers, Norm, BAD Radio and the Hardline as they existed then will always mean a lot to me.
Glad things are better for you, KDF. That's a pretty great story. You might want to send it to either George or Gordo. I bet they'd love to hear it, and they might even read it on air.
Probs in the minority here, but way down the road when the definitive tell all is written about TT, I betcha old Corbs comes out looking a shit ton better than most would think. Betcha Rhynes looks the oppo. Ditto Dan and Jake. I think Jake will end up being a sorta sympathetic figure. Dan's gonna end up just like his leader Rhynes. Except with a lot less $$$, clout and impact.
Managed to score a free ticket to the HOB tonight through a sales connection. Very different vibe I thought compared to “regular” ticket events. Spindarella with the tunes, occasionally interrupted by a ticket host thanking people for listening, being there, etc. but of note- George did a song about the 30 years and how they’re still going strong. I must have missed the musers are retiring speech I was promised was going to happen. C
Fellas, was that Ticketstock? Naw. Didn't think so. Impatient, impertinent, teenagers who want to snark but don't bother to engage in an even cursory fashion that which they attempt to cock sniff. For shame, ladies and germs, for shame. (Sorry, didn't mean to leave out any of you self-identifying polyamorous legumes out there. My heartfelts.....)
No snark to be found fillerup, I simply asked if George announced his retirement because I thought that’s what people were saying in here. I dont pay much attention to the events because I dont live close enough to attend any.
Go reread, dummy. How could there be discussions at a party where no roundtables or formal settings were had? Plus, I specifically said TS. (Bangs head on the wall, incredulous of others' "abilities".)
I read what you wrote. And you're wrong. George, for instance, has zero interest in retiring. When it comes down, it'll be from Junior. And it isn't going to be this year.
As for my "abilities." You don't know who you're talking to. I've kept my responses about the things you've said, and never about who you are.
For those that want to check the record, it’s the Xmas thread, 12-20 at 1003p where the prediction was made (paraphrasing) “after drydock one or more of the musers will make an announcement” re retirement. So maybe dude above who is so insistent he said TICKETSTOCK is different than the OP of the after drydock opinion. But the after drydock opinion is at the timestamp above. And that dude is clearly wrong. There’s video floating around of jub singing with Bobby Duncan. Go listen to it and see if you still think George is quitting soon. C
I can find no chatter about The Freak either flipping, cleaning house, or making any changes. The final holiday book came out a few days ago, which showed 97.1 at 1.4 cume (down from 1.5). They've hovered in that range pretty much from their Oct. '22 jump. Speaking of said book, both The Ticket and The FAN's numbers dipped, which is to be expected. Just like the first holiday book, 102.1 killed it by going 24/7 Christmas music. Next book will bring with it the year's first legit ratings.
Back to The Freak and nSyDr's comment. While I am no insider, I do scour all resources looking for tid bits, rumors, innuendo, and such. As previously mentioned, I've seen nothing on that front. What I have seen over the past few days that does pertain to The Freak is that The Dumb Zone will not be joining the fray. To the quick: there neither now nor has their ever been a deal in place. Dan and Jake truly are betting on themselves. I wish them all the best.
Now watch. I'll wake up tomorrow, The Freak will be called Sports Vision 97.1, built around their a.m. drive show, The Dumb Zone.
Curious if the DZ ever got that year thing sorted out that they initially hyped? If not and they end up somewhere else after today, it seems pretty obvious the podcast was never the end game and they didn't want to have to refund half the money when they can't podcast due to their new broadcast roles. And if that is the case, it would seem that the whole charade was to leave the ticket claiming righteous virtues and it was all a ruse to get to another station without completely sullying their names.
They're not going anywhere. From what I'm hearing, they have some irons in the proverbial fire as far as extending their "brand" goes. That most of their ideas and plans based around them basically mirror terrestrial radio (remotes, etc.) and are ad rev/fund raising oriented. Also from what I'm hearing, while they are working on things, it's mostly a loosey goosey proposition. Considering the two people involved, this should surprise no one. Having said that, their Patreon numbers are good and holding. How long will that continue, who knows. I think it'll depend on the direction they take things. If it remains TDZ, I'm not sure it lasts even 4 years. If they branch out and become a sort of Bar Stool thing, then it very well might have some seriously strong legs. Thing is, that take a lot of work. Thus far, the guys haven't shown much interest in going above and beyond and in a sustained manner. But in fairness, let's see what they do beginning tomorrow.
The Freak? No way. That lead balloon is losing altitude at a frightening pace. It'll either flip or the talent mostly if not entirely cleared out by August.
I never really thought there was a high chance of them going to the freak. The timing definitely did make it seem like they might, but there could be other reasons for that. Other ex-ticket personnel leaving for other ventures maybe gave them more confidence to do their own thing too? I just didn't think a radio station would hire a whole day worth of hosts, and then a year or so later, tell a show that they were only temporary and welcome on DnJ
Oh ya, i'll tell you real quick I don't know how the radio biz really works. Would be a funny turn of events for people claiming to work for a 'nice' corporation.
Have the TDZ guys been made to pay reparations yet in that iron clad case all the Cumulus apologists were discussing 5 or 6 months ago in which Cumulus legal brain trust/Mensa members were going to make Dan and Jake wish they never turned down the low ball offer? Receipts
your opinions are automatically diminished for thinking that herb was o.g. everyone knows that authur jr was the only gansta on the set. stole the damn show.
Has anyone ever done a study of the hit rate on the predictions on this site? My memory tells me it hasn't been good. If every week someone predicts big changes afoot eventually someone will be correct. I feel about predictions here now I do about Superlative Corby. I've heard so much of it that it doesn't mean anything anymore. I remember a few years ago being assured that there were big format changes coming and they were going to dump guy talk and get more sportsy and caller driven. It never seemed to happen.
I do wonder if the WKRP references mean this prediction is about the Freak and them going back to be in a Rock station since that's what happens in the first episode of WKRP.
People here predicted for years than the Fan was going to flip formats. *Spoiler Alert* Not only are they still on the air; they have very respectable numbers.
@KDF Bingo. I'm not the OP, but the whispers are getting louder about a return to rock. Have you not been listening to The Ticket a lot over the past 6 months? It completely rebalanced it's guy/sports ratio. Very much back to the earlier years. 70% sports, 30% guy. Only exception, as it was back then, The Musers. They're 55% sports, 45% guy.
@Van Bad touch using a host's kid's name as your handle. But you're correct about The FAN's numbers. They do fine. In all fairness, their first years were crapola. Once they moved on from RaGE, stopped trying to compete with The Ticket as "A New Ticket," and embraced being a sportsy sports station, they found their footing and solidified their place in the market.
The fan hit it's stride after ditching ESPN radio. I know guys who don't listen to the Ticket because they do want to hear about Cover 2 and want to know who UTs third string center is. They also take high school signing day as a High Holy day, a subject even Norm didn't talk about. While it's not everyone's cup of tea they serve a purpose too.
@Bleecker I have actually listened more in the last 6 months in the last four years. I was not a fan of D&J or the Hardline so I was usually out after The Invasion. I don't know that I've noticed the shift you speak of other than the sports landscape of the metroplex dictated that they were heavier into sports given the World Championship run by the Rangers and a wheels off College and Cowboy football season but I'm also not going to say your wrong. I'm still out after why today doesn't suck most days. Corby makes me want to punch my dashboard, which is not to say he or the others who do liked Dan, arent talented they just aren't what I want to listen to.
Not sure about the Freak. I turn over during breaks on the Musers and I enjoy what I hear of the downbeat. In a world without the Musers I might be listening to it regularly as I don't like The Fan's offering in the mornings. Still I can't imagine that the PTB at iHeart are going to continue throwing money down the drain much longer.
Enough with using Corby's kids as your handle. What's wrong with you? What a pathetic creep. Btw, you're very bad at what you're attempting to do. Please, return to your preferred URL. You've failed.
I agree with you @riptide I think bringing any of the host kids or family into the site is going a bit far. Unless of course its really Ike but I doubt that very seriously.
He's America's oldest preteen, so yes, he is making a point. And of course, it's self referential, as all things in OIGW's world revolve around OGW. What is the point? He's gone? TSE is gone (hello DZ?)? TF is flipping? iHeart cleaning house, retooling the format? Or. Something monumental is about to go down on TT?
Well, so far no announcement or allusion to his curious Tweets. But I will say this: From Day One I've tuned in to The Freak, all shows sans B&S, at least 3 times per week. Today is the most engaged I've heard Rhyner since the first week of the October '22 launch. I have to say his engagement almost comes off as suspicious. There has yet to be a segment he's mostly or entirely chosen to lay out, which has been the norm since week two of the station's inception. As the youngsters put it, "Just sayin'."
I’m not one for riddles. My deepest apologies. I only meant that what has been said before re: Rhyner persuading Dan to helm a new project once Rhyner re-retires appears to be true.
Where are you seeing/gathering this? From Mike's Tweets? Presently there is zero, genuine scuttlebutt about anything Mike, Dan, Jake, or Freak related. At least none that I can find.
Ready, my babies? Told ya'll it was last week or this. Friday's peekin' 'round the corner. Ya'll know what happens on Friday, right? Fuck ya you do. Gotta get down on it. Becc's told us that way back in 11. Friday's also when major shit goes down.
Hold onto it tight, babies.
“If everyone is out to get you, paranoia is only good thinking.” ― Dr. Johnny Fever
Hi Mud Cakes! Has it happened yet, baby? We’re five minutes to midnight. We’re a radio station in 2024 so unemployment is always possible, but seems like I’d have heard something by now if you know anything.
Bob and Dan almost departing the Ticket for The Fan was June 2013 contract negotiation period with their Summer Bash 2013 WTDS ostensibly their last time on the air if they hadn't reached an agreement that weekend.
One does get the feeling that this might be the last junket. Would not be surprised if Cowboys training camp is the only trip going forward. And even that could be on its last legs.
How much of these little junkets are paid for by Cumulus and how much of it is corporate sponsorship? Is the Ticket still on double secret probation with the NFL?
Hardline cut short 2 night because of hockey and bailed on last 20 minutes of Friday’s show to make an early flight. Commitment to their craft or they just know it doesn’t matter what content that they deliver anymore. Can get “Mary” in town on a flight to see U2. Surprised we didn’t get golf stories. This week’s content sucked.
In response to last couple of comments: Sponsors don’t pay for anything in particular; they just pay. Money isn’t earmarked for anything. It is only ad revenue.
Obviously, the hardline has zero control over Stars games. I recall the Hardline leaving early for flights before. I recall other shows have bailed early to make a flight. Heck, does anyone else remember the “Hardline Travel Days?” Greggo & Mike would coordinate their travel & literally miss a show.
Let’s just keep the selective memory train running. I am sure it will lead to Freak success & annual Dumb Zone memberships soon.
Why are you bringing back to the Freak or the Dumb Zone. What’s wrong with saying the week sucked and I think that maybe a little more effort to put good content out is warranted instead of using it like a vacation week.
The douche nozzle got you. Too easy. Even ferreted out Grubes. I honestly thought by now the talent were too savvy to read fan pages, blogs, and social media. Guess not. Then again, I see so many of them are unable to contain themselves on social media. So I shouldn't be surprised.
Don't let the trolls win, people. For fuck's sake.
While you're at it, give Dan "Divorce, Inc." Balls and Uncle Fester a listen or five. The Musers they are not. But they're pretty good and getting better.
I don't know about all the WKRP stuff or Grubes "hitting back" stuff or any other thing prediction or snark or assholery related. I do know that I have enjoyed checking in on The Downbeat on the regular. I also know Danny and Mike keep making not so veiled references to not only their show's days being numbered but also to the station in general. This isn't speculation. It's what they say a handful of times per week. I also read reddit comments by KT and Cavanaugh saying iHeart doesn't give them the support they need and doesn't go about promoting the shows in the best way. Again this isn't speculation. You can read it yourself on The Freak reddit page.
There's too much said publicly on and off air for it to all be schtick. It's not. I'm not predicting anything. But I am saying I know what I hear and what I've read. No I'm not a Glenn. Though as I said, I listen to The Downbeat regularly. I've tried my best to get into The Speakeasy but as much as I want to enjoy what Rhyner throws down these days, I can't. As Rhyner goes so too does whatever show he's a part of.
I was a Patreon Dumb Zone sub until the calendar turned 01/01/24. Like Rhyner, I wanted to enjoy what Dan and Jake were offering but couldn't. However I wish them nothing but success. Just not my thing.
The Ticket midday shows have a few high points but unfortunately they're mostly meh. I will admit McClearin has settled down a bit and that has made for a more palatable Invasion. Still it's a hair above average radio at best. I really do like Mino's enthusiasm for the local teams and Sean seems like a nice guy. But their pairing only works in fits and starts. Fits and starts leads to meh and that's what they are. The Musers still have more highs than lows but those highs rarely reach the heights they once did. The Hardline is a strange show. When Corby is sportsy it works because Bob becomes super engaged. When he's not Bob tries to be super engaged and it falls flat. I've no idea why Davey is on the show. He lays out most of the time. He's far better when either Corby or Bob are out. Like I said it's a strange show.

If I had to guess how it went was the Fan came to Mike or Mike and Corby and presented an offer, Mike pushing for them to take offer, Corby not as interested, over time, Mike starts to persuade Corby, Corby at the end realizes he doesn't want to.
Delete@in house, It was an odd comment from Bob when Corby mentioned making the decision to stay.
DeleteMakes a lot of sense. A Freak caller once asked Rhyner one day what his biggest beef with Corby was, and Rhyner said that he wasn’t a team player.
DeleteRhyner, the guy who mailed it in for 10 years and retired without any real notice is claiming Corby wasn't a team player? Lol, I'm obviously biased because I prefer Corby but come on
DeleteI think you listen to Dan for 20 years & know just how insulted he was not getting moved to afternoon drive
Deletemike and corby were looking to jump to the fan around the time all the greggo stuff went down
DeleteRenfield, you can see how many subscribers a sub Reddit has.
ReplyDeleteStarted listening in 2007 with my dad going to school, muse in the news.
ReplyDeleteGlad things are better for you, KDF. That's a pretty great story. You might want to send it to either George or Gordo. I bet they'd love to hear it, and they might even read it on air.
DeleteProbs in the minority here, but way down the road when the definitive tell all is written about TT, I betcha old Corbs comes out looking a shit ton better than most would think. Betcha Rhynes looks the oppo. Ditto Dan and Jake. I think Jake will end up being a sorta sympathetic figure. Dan's gonna end up just like his leader Rhynes. Except with a lot less $$$, clout and impact.
ReplyDeleteI can see this. Who is writing the book?
DeleteFingers crossed, Fernando.
DeleteDid George announce his retirement tonight?
ReplyDeleteManaged to score a free ticket to the HOB tonight through a sales connection. Very different vibe I thought compared to “regular” ticket events. Spindarella with the tunes, occasionally interrupted by a ticket host thanking people for listening, being there, etc.
ReplyDeletebut of note- George did a song about the 30 years and how they’re still going strong.
Deletelol polyamorsim has nothing to do with gender identity. Really weird
DeleteLegume, dummy. Read before you comment. But not some cis legume, mind you. lul. Seems like you are the one who doesn't understand these things. lul.
DeleteNo snark to be found fillerup, I simply asked if George announced his retirement because I thought that’s what people were saying in here. I dont pay much attention to the events because I dont live close enough to attend any.
ReplyDeleteNope. Ticketstock. RIFF, oeople. RIFF.
DeleteSooooo. Where’s the guy who called me a moron? The announcement! The announcement!
ReplyDeleteTicketstock, dummy. Go reread.
DeleteSure. Eventually the Musers will retire. You’ll be right one day.
DeleteIn the meantime, to quote Tony Wilson, “You’re just fucking wrong.”
Go reread, dummy. How could there be discussions at a party where no roundtables or formal settings were had? Plus, I specifically said TS. (Bangs head on the wall, incredulous of others' "abilities".)
ReplyDeleteI read what you wrote. And you're wrong. George, for instance, has zero interest in retiring. When it comes down, it'll be from Junior. And it isn't going to be this year.
ReplyDeleteAs for my "abilities." You don't know who you're talking to. I've kept my responses about the things you've said, and never about who you are.
Feels like the prediction keeps moving back. Has gone from before dry dock to after dry dock to the anniversary party and now to Ticketstock.
DeleteYup. Moving the goalposts.
DeleteFor those that want to check the record, it’s the Xmas thread, 12-20 at 1003p where the prediction was made (paraphrasing) “after drydock one or more of the musers will make an announcement” re retirement.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe dude above who is so insistent he said TICKETSTOCK is different than the OP of the after drydock opinion. But the after drydock opinion is at the timestamp above. And that dude is clearly wrong.
There’s video floating around of jub singing with Bobby Duncan. Go listen to it and see if you still think George is quitting soon.

the death knell has officially sounded for Le Freq. could be as soon as tomorrow, more likely next week. that is all. carry out the day's business.
ReplyDeleteI can find no chatter about The Freak either flipping, cleaning house, or making any changes.
DeleteBack to The Freak and nSyDr's comment.
Dumb Zone chains get lifted in 13.5 hours. Prepare yourselves
ReplyDelete“They are betting on themselves. They just want to do fun podcasts on the internet. They have no interest in returning to radio.”
Delete“They’ll have those annual subscriptions up in no time.”
ReplyDeleteThey're not going anywhere.
DeleteThe Freak?
ReplyDeleteAgree they won't be going to TF. Your 2nd thought shows you have no idea how the radio biz runs. Yes, that.can and does happen. On the reg.
DeleteOh ya, i'll tell you real quick I don't know how the radio biz really works. Would be a funny turn of events for people claiming to work for a 'nice' corporation.
DeleteHave the TDZ guys been made to pay reparations yet in that iron clad case all the Cumulus apologists were discussing 5 or 6 months ago in which Cumulus legal brain trust/Mensa members were going to make Dan and Jake wish they never turned down the low ball offer? Receipts
ReplyDeleteWrong URL, bud.
Deletehold onto 'em tight, my babies. this is THE week. the times they are a changin'.
ReplyDelete@We alll live
i THINK you mean paying for legal fees (both theirs and CUMless's). i KNOW you don't understand what reparations means.
remember and know this my babies: it's still rock n roll to me. jan was a babe. venus was cool af. herb was og.
your opinions are automatically diminished for thinking that herb was o.g. everyone knows that authur jr was the only gansta on the set. stole the damn show.
DeleteMajor earthshaking news. Jacob Detamore is the new fulltime Musers producer replacing Fernando.
ReplyDeleteSee all you doubters, zero et al were right!
DeleteHas anyone ever done a study of the hit rate on the predictions on this site? My memory tells me it hasn't been good. If every week someone predicts big changes afoot eventually someone will be correct. I feel about predictions here now I do about Superlative Corby. I've heard so much of it that it doesn't mean anything anymore. I remember a few years ago being assured that there were big format changes coming and they were going to dump guy talk and get more sportsy and caller driven. It never seemed to happen.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder if the WKRP references mean this prediction is about the Freak and them going back to be in a Rock station since that's what happens in the first episode of WKRP.
People here predicted for years than the Fan was going to flip formats. *Spoiler Alert* Not only are they still on the air; they have very respectable numbers.
Delete@KDF Bingo.
Delete@Van Bad touch using a host's kid's name as your handle. But you're correct about The FAN's numbers. They do fine. In all fairness, their first years were crapola. Once they moved on from RaGE, stopped trying to compete with The Ticket as "A New Ticket," and embraced being a sportsy sports station, they found their footing and solidified their place in the market.
10-2 on The Fan is good radio.
DeleteWhere are these format flip rumors to be found?
DeleteThe fan hit it's stride after ditching ESPN radio. I know guys who don't listen to the Ticket because they do want to hear about Cover 2 and want to know who UTs third string center is. They also take high school signing day as a High Holy day, a subject even Norm didn't talk about. While it's not everyone's cup of tea they serve a purpose too.
ReplyDeleteThe Fan was never ESPN radio
DeleteWhat were they when Tom Gribble went over there from BaD Radio or am I confusing 105.3 and another station?
DeleteDuh! Senior moment here, I was thinking of 103.3 that was ESPN.
DeleteESPN Radio on 103.3 (KESN) launched in 2001. Cumulus took over operations of 103.3 in October 2013. That's when Gribble moved over.
Delete105.3 the Fan is an entirely different radio station that launched in December 2008
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the Freak.
TDZ is so cringe! They are trying so hard to be Barstool. They will fail miserably!
ReplyDeleteEnough with using Corby's kids as your handle. What's wrong with you? What a pathetic creep. Btw, you're very bad at what you're attempting to do. Please, return to your preferred URL. You've failed.
DeleteI agree with you @riptide I think bringing any of the host kids or family into the site is going a bit far. Unless of course its really Ike but I doubt that very seriously.
Deletewhat if corb's wife were to say "rhyner's my bitch"? special exemption?
DeleteNon sequitur much? Wrong URL, turbo. Not working.

ReplyDeleteIs Mike Rhyner making a point?
ReplyDeleteHe's America's oldest preteen, so yes, he is making a point. And of course, it's self referential, as all things in OIGW's world revolve around OGW. What is the point? He's gone? TSE is gone (hello DZ?)? TF is flipping? iHeart cleaning house, retooling the format? Or. Something monumental is about to go down on TT?
ReplyDeleteSome bait to get more people to tune in at 2 pm today?
ReplyDeleteAnother single day ppm bump a la the Greggo stunt? Perhaps. It is after all a part of MR's gig bag.
DeleteWell, so far no announcement or allusion to his curious Tweets.
ReplyDeleteThe ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but my people do not understand.
ReplyDeleteI'll bite. Enlighten us plebes, Poor.
Delete... but my people do not understand ME
Deletetell us. tell us. you, no, you, you, Mike Rhyner, you, tell us. tell us.
DeleteI’m not one for riddles. My deepest apologies. I only meant that what has been said before re: Rhyner persuading Dan to helm a new project once Rhyner re-retires appears to be true.
ReplyDeleteEven a beast of burden can spot it.
Where are you seeing/gathering this? From Mike's Tweets? Presently there is zero, genuine scuttlebutt about anything Mike, Dan, Jake, or Freak related. At least none that I can find.
DeleteReady, my babies? Told ya'll it was last week or this. Friday's peekin' 'round the corner. Ya'll know what happens on Friday, right? Fuck ya you do. Gotta get down on it. Becc's told us that way back in 11. Friday's also when major shit goes down.
ReplyDeleteHold onto it tight, babies.

Hi Mud Cakes! Has it happened yet, baby? We’re five minutes to midnight. We’re a radio station in 2024 so unemployment is always possible, but seems like I’d have heard something by now if you know anything.
DeleteUh oh, we’re a little past 1am. Is the Freak dead yet? I hope Mud Cakes clues us in.
DeleteThis week has been the most uneventful Superbowl week that I can remember. U2 was it. Cumulus should ask for it’s money back.
ReplyDeleteBob and Dan almost departing the Ticket for The Fan was June 2013 contract negotiation period with their Summer Bash 2013 WTDS ostensibly their last time on the air if they hadn't reached an agreement that weekend.
ReplyDeleteOne does get the feeling that this might be the last junket. Would not be surprised if Cowboys training camp is the only trip going forward. And even that could be on its last legs.
ReplyDeleteHow much of these little junkets are paid for by Cumulus and how much of it is corporate sponsorship?
ReplyDeleteIs the Ticket still on double secret probation with the NFL?
Hardline cut short 2 night because of hockey and bailed on last 20 minutes of Friday’s show to make an early flight. Commitment to their craft or they just know it doesn’t matter what content that they deliver anymore. Can get “Mary” in town on a flight to see U2. Surprised we didn’t get golf stories. This week’s content sucked.
ReplyDeleteThe Hardline did a full show on Friday. They signed off at 7pm
DeleteThe Cult members don't let facts get in the way of The Narrative. Neither do Freq employees. Especially Freq on air talent.
DeleteIn response to last couple of comments:
ReplyDeleteSponsors don’t pay for anything in particular; they just pay.
DeleteFelt like the typical Super Bowl week to me. Minus Dan and Jake. YMMV.
ReplyDeleteI agree, felt like most Super Bowl weeks sans D&J. Quite a few guests on and some sprinkled in wireless gold.
DeleteSo Friday came and went. What momentous occasion did we miss?
ReplyDeleteThe douche nozzle got you. Too easy. Even ferreted out Grubes. I honestly thought by now the talent were too savvy to read fan pages, blogs, and social media. Guess not. Then again, I see so many of them are unable to contain themselves on social media. So I shouldn't be surprised.
ReplyDeleteDon't let the trolls win, people. For fuck's sake.
While you're at it, give Dan "Divorce, Inc." Balls and Uncle Fester a listen or five. The Musers they are not. But they're pretty good and getting better.
I don’t think we speak enough about the utterly failed bit that was Fate of Man. Probably played a role in the narrative.
ReplyDeleteNot sure you understand The Narrative. Then again, maybe you do, 5 head.
DeleteI don't know about all the WKRP stuff or Grubes "hitting back" stuff or any other thing prediction or snark or assholery related.
ReplyDeleteThere's too much said publicly on and off air for it to all be schtick.
It sounds like you aren’t too happy with anything local radio is throwing out. Maybe listen to an audiobook?
DeleteYou sure are clever and snarky, P1Hector. Totally roasting, bruh.
DeleteNew post up; not Ticketish.
ReplyDelete
