Away More

I'm out of town again, Confessors.  Will try to check comments.

Also:  Comment moderation and Blogger sign-in is giving me major fits.  If you don't see your comment it doesn't necessarily mean I've rejected it.  Now, for example, it's not letting me read the entire comment in the "comments awaiting moderation" list.

I will be back early next week.  In the meantime, I will indeed be holding on to my butt because I have confidence in Gypo JD, who is probably not the same guy as Gypo Nolan, but is some other Gypo who thinks he or she knows something, and probably does, although whether the news is material will have to await the event.

ALERT ALERT ALERT:  If you or anyone you know would like to work with me to develop a non-Blogger website for My Ticket Confession, please drop me an email at ThePlainsman1310@gmail.com.  I'm not looking for freebies -- I will pay the going rate for website design and development services.  If I tried to do it myself it would end up looking like Pong.

See you next week.

  1. Love the Blog...Go with Squarespace.com if you want a new blog/platform. It's cheap and a great blogsite.

  2. A Small Orange has good going rates. I use iWeb on Mac, but not sure the PC equivalent. It was easy enough for me, and I have no web designing background

  3. Did you hear Cat dance around the question about what happened to Sweetjack?

  4. I tend to believe Hold Onto Your Butt Alerts. I just wish Gypo would give us something to nibble on. We were given the Cuban Missile Crisis last summer. Perhaps another historical reference to ponder?

    Gypo?

  5. No. But come to think of it, it's been forever since I've heard from old Sweejack. Then again, it seems like the whole find a deal/coupon via the web thing has run its course.

I know I'm going to get killed by some or a lot of your for saying this, but I've about had my fill of one Jake "Z" Kemp. I also think Brogan is Cat's new pet/toy JVer. And oh Seabass…jeez, where do I start with that guy? I hope for his and for Ticket listeners' sakes he gets that job with the Rangers he's so obviously pushing for.

  6. I tend to buy into Hold Onto Your Butts Alerts. Last summer we got a Cuban Missile Crisis allusion. Maybe Gypo can send us something to snack on?

  7. We heard it today, the promotions director is becoming a producer at BAP starting Mon.

Was a false gypo alert; not even sure he has a 50% hit rate...troll.

  8. That's it? Promotions Director to BAP? I'd call that a fizzle yield from Gypo, for sure.

  9. There's still a Sweetjack link on the Ticket website. But Cat went into fail-voice when he was asked about it.

Maybe we should hold on to our butts that Sweetjack is about to go away.

  10. 1-Many frequent posters on MTC dislike “Fight Night”, but are we in the minority? It seems that this year, more than ever, the hosts have had more difficulty in getting participants and making match-ups by the deadline.

Granted,Lincoln Property Company (owners of The Village) have a long-term relationship with Cumulus and The Ticket and Corona has been a sponsor for years, but are we Confessors those who dislike the most?

I've have a feeling that the total event is very dependent on if/when boxing referee, Lawrence Cole is available to work it since I cannot remember if I have heard another state-certified boxing official actually work Fight Night besides Cole.

2-In the last week, we had the issue with WEEI host regarding Erin Andrews, the host's “apology” and the current aftermath: host suspension, FOX removing ads; NESN not renewing the TV simulcast...

    http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/fox-strikes-back-at-weei-pulls-all-advertising-from-station.html

Today, Mike called Michele Beadle a “drunk B-Word” during WTDS. With the ESPN/Cumulus agreement with 103.3, could there be any fallout*? I hope not.

*-Personally, I think that Michele Beadle is mediocre at her job, but was able to use her then “TV youth” to be to ESPN what Jenny McCarthy was to MTV's “Singled Out” 20 years ago...a “tomboy” blonde who sticks her tongue out and loves SPORTS!
Now, Beadle overvalued herself, went to NBC and only to fail miserable on both NBCSN (“The Crossover') a but also on NBC (working with “Access Hollywood”), then she took to podcasts to say that she didn't have control over “The Crossover” and admitted that she never works well with others. Add that she does Tweet under the influence and…she will remain a target.

  11. I got the impression Catman threw water on that conversation because Mike R. was singing the praises of Spotify while Cumulus has an interest in Rdio, a Spotify competitor. SweetJack came up at the same time because corky brought it up, predictably forgetting the name, as he thought SweetJack was Cumulus's Spotify competitor.

  12. I've never been to Fight Night so can't comment on the experience, but I have never liked the concept as a Ticket promotion. The potential for Ticket-ending disaster isn't worth whatever kicks the hosts and attendees get out of it.

We have all noted the hosts almost desperate-seeming plea for fighters at an early date this year, as DA mentions. I think something happened between last year and this. I have a vague recollection that someone actually got hurt last year, but I could be misremembering that.

In any event, I have checked in past years and found no permits issued by the people who issue permits for Texas boxing for Fight Night -- may not have looked in the right place, maybe the permit was secured just before the fight. Don't know. The hosts are suggesting that the need to sign up early this time is because of a "change in the rules," but I'm skeptical of that. SPECULATION: Someone in the Republic of Texas with the authority to shut Fight Night down finally said -- Ticket, follow the rules or no Fight Night.

The Ticket claims to love Fight Night so not even the immense moral authority of this site is going to stop it, so I don't post on it any more. But I invite you to close your eyes and think about what happens if someone -- especially a woman -- gets seriously hurt or killed in one of those one-minute rounds. Think what Cumulus does; think what sponsors do; think what the national media does.

Plainsman, I agree completely with you about Fight Night. Someone is going to get killed or hurt, and the first question asked will be which idiot thought that this was a good idea. Maybe Cumulus can't afford an in-house Corporate Consul anymore, or the one they have isn't very good at his/her job...

  14. As this has gotten more popular and the crowds get bigger and drunker, what kind of security do they have? There have been youtube videos of fights in the crowds the last year or so that didn't, but could have gotten very ugly. How do they control the crowds and who is responsible for liability here?

  15. Never been a huge fan . Seems they use it more to burn segments finding the fighters than anything else. Never been to the event but have listened to bits and pieces, that's OK, I just don't like the build-up to it, definite tune-out.

  16. I've only been to a couple of Ticket events, a Ticketstock and a summerbash, but never a Fight Night. I just feel like for me, the guy with kids and living in the burbs, why would I go to something at the Village with a bunch of Chris Chris'?

In any case, I see the value of Fight Night for the shows, just imagine how much of a time killer it is to bring it up every other day and create fake drama. Unless the hosts or JV team are going at it, just not interested.
Those participants aren't going to get hurt compared to the big heavy hitters and/or the guys that have been drinking all afternoon and get in the ring.

It would be great if they could do a white elephant drawing for fight night, sans Norm and the Grey Mule of course.
