OPEN THREAD: Create Ur Own Topix!

I know, it's always Open Thread around here, but thought we needed a little thread-freshener.

Here's my topic:  The David Newbury segment with David Moore (the latter on the phone) on yesterday's afternoon show (Newbury/T.C.) was the best ten minutes on the Cowboys I've heard this season.  The focus:  Tony Romo has been given too much power to run the offense, change plans, dance around until the play clock is a microsecond away from delay of game.   I can't remember the last time I heard a weak segment featuring either, and when they're both on, it's must-listen.

Will we hear The Boomtown (David & David) in a show this year?

  1. I can't remember who took over the Cowboy reports when Spags departed, but he was like listening to paint dry. David Moore is infinitely better. Running Into the Kicker is too NPR for some people, but I like it. Possibly because I'm from the era that remembers and embraces the old Cowboy Stampede song.

  2. Todd "Everything's Better in New England" Archer. What an ass wagon.

Would LOVE me a Boomtown showgram (TM Pman). Cuz handsome Calvin got a little off track...

Give me Newbs over The Smartest Guy in the Room, aka Jake Z, any day of the week.

  3. You've outdone yourself with Ginj of the Week Pman...she is smokin...

  4. I noticed the Cowboys pre game show featured Bob and Newbury, not Jake, like last week. I wonder if that's due to Jake's TSJ duties combined with a 3 hour pre game show being too much Jake (or anyone) for one programming day?

"Welcome to the Boomtown," huh. I remember that tune. Hell, I remember the video. …Took a year off of college and he never went back / Now he smokes much too much, got permanent hack / Deals dope at a Denny's keeps a table in the back / And I say, "welcome," welcome to the boomtown / Pick a habit we got plenty to go around / Welcome to the boomtown. Killer song.

  5. Todd Archer was a kick right square in the balls and really, so was Mickey the last few years he was there. The Cowboys never did anything wrong when he was reporting.

My topics are 1. where does our glorious leader Pman get these wonderful pics? I mean damn.

    2. Commercials. They suck ass and I hate them and I always miss out on the discussions about them.

  6. I'll carry over the Greggo comment from last thread. I follow him on Twitter but he gets lost in the shuffle over there. If somebody hadn't posted it on the Shag I would have missed it. It's not a good look.

Now that damn song is going to be stuck in my head.

  7. The Cowboys pre-game is always a revolving gig outside of Newb and Bob.

  8. Conrad, you're familiar with Google right?

  9. David Moore is SO BAD. At least the Fan guys have fun at Mickey's expense and make fun of/point out his homerisms.
-Not Spittle, Not Dawson, Not Richie

  10. Please peddle your blatant FAN crap elsewhere. No one is listening. Your statements are non-starters, your tag-line/handle is unimpressive and meaningless.

-Not Zig Ziglar, Not Tony Robbins, Not Dallin Larsen

  11. Whoa. The idiots on the Fan make fun of Mickey. Well I guess I better start listening to that obviously superior radio station.

  12. Nobody, and I mean nobody, knows less about what's really going on than the guy who posts as Not Spittle/Dawson/Ritchie.

Also, note that he hasn't mentioned the FAIL's ratings, which have tanked since their brief two-month "rise." Their highly-touted midday show recorded a 2.1 (in M 25-54) in the last book, good for 19th in their day part. Yes, 19th in M 25-54. Wow. And that's their BEST show?

  13. Yeah, this d nozzle keeps popping up and 'enticing' us to listen to the Fail. Enough, bro.

Not purple, not pre introduce, not hang up on your ass

  14. To the person who axed, what are having been had is google? Is that even a real word?

And I looked up "the fan" on Ask Jeeves and it says, "The place to which all the refuse from the Ticket accumulates." So my question is, why would anyone listen to such garbage? YUCK!

  15. The Charlie Robison Rhyme Brain says:
David and David on the radio
Doin' their best to make a good show
Mining that gold like they run a back hoe
Yeah we goen haba gud taim

  16. I moved from Dallas to Denver about a year ago. I still listen to the Ticket stream all the time, but I have also become a fan of a local sportsradio station's drivetime show, "The Drive with Big Al and D-Mac." They go from 3-6 and then an immediate replay from 6-9. Recently, I discovered that they post each hour of their show as a podcast on iTunes and their website WITHIN MINUTES after each hour ends, WITHOUT COMMERCIALS. This makes for such a better listening experience than anything the Ticket or the UnTicket/usave.it has to offer as far as show podcasts. I used to record BaDD Radio on usave.it and listen to it every night after work, but that is gradually being replaced by the local show's podcasts -- which I can actually get through without having the application crash 5 different times while listening, and without having to fast forward through all the commercial breaks. I don't understand why the little Ticket/Cumulus can't or won't provide a similar service to their loyal P1s?

  17. Nothing can be done about it now, but a Rhyner/Followill Hardline would not have been horrible.

    Amen, brutha. Amen.

  19. Nice...related to some long ago references to one hit wonder we had, Gordo just referenced Guffria.

  20. Gordo likes his flanger-laden 80s pop metal.

@6:14 - I don't understand people like you. If you want regular old dry sports talk, there's plenty of that everywhere. But there's precious little wheels-off Ticket style talk.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So you prefer Corby over Followill? That's your choice. I just offered an observation.

The "people like you" remark was unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Much prefer Followil over Corbles. Hard to say cuz Corby was my favorite for years. Over the past 2 or 3 years he's really begun to rub me the wrong way, for all the reasons cited here ad infinitum. Saddens me...

  23. I find it very frustrating that outside of the recent Ron Washington talk a few Fridays ago, the only two Ranger segments in recent memory have been due to Followill being on. Why does it take the voice of the freakin Mavs being on to talk baseball that USED to be the home to Baseball Jesus? I mean I get it, Corby doesn't like baseball and doesn't like the Rangers but for Mike to just roll over and let Corby run the show and talk ad nauseam about OU, festivals and Potbellys sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ya, not quite with you there. I don't believe Cooby doesn't like the Rangers. There just isn't much to talk about this year. But on your other points, totally with you.

I'd like to see him do more yuck monkey stuff. The show has become stale, predictable. I miss the over-cusser, obvious man, et. al. Probably built into his contract that he doesn't have to do that stuff anymore but the show has really suffered because of it. He's a great 3rd wheel, but not good at driving the bus. (Not sure those metaphors make any sense).

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm not a huge Corby fan but I'd rather have him than Followill. There was way too much baseball talk for me and I punched out during that last baseball segment Mark was running.

He also brings nothing to the table for anything non-sports related. You may disagree with a lot of Corby's pop culture and entertainment opinions, like I do, but at least he's somewhat knowledgeable on those topics and can contribute to discussions on music, movies, tv, etc. Mainstream Mark is dead weight on anything that doesn't involve sports. This is the same guy who prepared for Breaking Bad talk by reading episode recaps on Wikipedia.

  26. "The "people like you" remark was unnecessary."

Why? There are a lot of people like you. It's only accusatory if you read it that way, bruh.

Totally agree. I don't have as many complaints about THL as some here do, but I think maybe they need a Yuck Monkey.

I'd really like it if they got a Producer, moved Danny to Host (along with Rhynes) and put Coobie back where he was in the Hammer years.
