Sunday Morning Quick Hit

Yow.  Jake and Sean are really on it this morning with their 7 AM start.

You may disagree with what one or both of them is saying or how they're saying it, but it is sharp, solid conversation and no punches pulled -- including a few jabs at one another.  Good radio.

We all need to step back before launching bombs.  I include myself in this caution.  One can disagree with what a host says but before we issue an opinion that isn't tied to something in particular we've heard on a showgram, at least consider whether it's thought-provoking, entertaining radio -- whether you'd rather be listening to, or doing, something other than listening to The Little One.

I punch out sometimes during the week or JV time when I think things are getting a little too fatuous or smug or repetitive, but I almost always re-punch before too much time has passed.  I've sampled the competition -- in fact, I'm thinking of doing a multi-week Ben & Skin immersion and reporting -- but I think it's very difficult to deny that The Ticket, for all its occasional sour notes, is still the greatest radio any of us has ever heard.

Even with bedhead, it's worth getting up early to listen to That Shake Joint Thang.

  1. I think some of the criticism of hosts or show content is just a concern over a departure from that which made the Ticket great in the first place.

If they are going to lose audience, I would rather it be because people think there is too much Cowboys talk or too much Mavs talk, not because they are being preached to about whether or not Christians in Highland Park should be allowed to have guns.

  2. I wasn't able to listen this morning. Pman, could you, or someone else, please, summarize what was being discussed snd in what terms?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Don't believe it for a second. I'm a fan of Sea Bass I think he brings it especially when he's talking baseball. Thought he did a pretty good little job filling in for Gordon on Muse in the news as well. Can't believe the other guy has anything meaningful to offer.

Another wonderful day for the anti-cowboy faction. Many teams (most recently the Steelers) can find a way to at least win 1 or 2 games when their starting QB is out. Not the Jerry Jones led Cowboys. Let the NFL's leading rusher and the man that holds the Cowboy single season record for rushing walk...replace him with a meathead named Joseph Randle and see what happens. Sign a guy that likes to beat up women...that seems to be working well.

It's amusing to think that Jerry Jones won executive of the year last year.

Go Stars. Go Mavs. Go FC Dallas.

  4. It's funny that one would mention a team who's starting QB raped a girl and paid her off when admonishing the Cowboys about Hardy.

I'm totally opposite @8:59. Sea Bass is like nails on a chalkboard to me. He is more of a Rangers homer than Tom Greive. It's funny to see the Rangers homers like Sean and Evan Grant piling on the Cowboys and talking about how the Rangers do things the right way, yada yada. The same Rangers that have never won anything in their existence and who's biggest claim to fame is choking in the world series.

Jake brings a lot to the table IMHO. He is knowledgeable and funny. I get it that he is not for everybody but neither is Sean.

    1. It was interesting to me last week during all the talk about Hardy that no one touched Winston about the rape. Hardy missed an entire season of NFL football costing him millions (probably rightfully so, I'm not defending Hardy).
Winston missed one game and it wasnt for the rape but rather bc after the rape he jumped on a table in the university's cafeteria and yelled "fuck her right in the pussy" (sorry Pman quoting for accuracy) then Winston was drafted #1 overall. During the game Sunday the announcers on more than one occasion talked about Winston as a franchise QB and the face of the franchise. Hardy's victim at least got a pay out, Winstons was dragged thru the mud in the press, by the police and by the university and to my knowledge ha received nothing in the way of a settlement. (Also, let's no forget we HAD video evidence of Winston raping the girl on a teammates phone but a football coach told him to delete it, something else the police never looked into.) Fox televised the warm up hype video showing Winston leading the team pre-game. Apparently we have all forgotten about whay Winston did bc no one seems to be saying he should be banned for life. Hypocrisy at its finest.

  6. I'm 37 and like Sean & Jake. And for what it's worth, I'm really digging BAD lately. I'm a Fonivan fan, but I do think this version of BAD works much better. Bob needs a sports guy & Jake fills that role.

BTW - fake Spalding was worth Gordo being out this morning.

  7. "I'm gonna be calm for three minutes and then I'm gonna go off again." Norm

And now college on a Monday? Wow.

  8. Fake Spalding is always greatness. And you gotta hand it to Jake for studying up on the Syria mess. I kinda wonder how many people try to see all the angles on it.

  9. Did you see Computer's tweets that he's so devastated he just can't bring himself to do his BAD Radio bits anymore?

    1. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the station basically shaming him out for breaking down on the phone twice. I don't blame him as he's liable to do that from here on out.

  12. Uhh yeah... was anyone else a little put off by how all the ticket hosts pretty much dogged and embarrassed computer for how bummed he was after the game? Sure, it is a little ridiuculous for a grown man to be sobbing over a cowboys regular season defeat... but CLEARLY the dude has other stuff going on in his life and the cowboys victories/defeats are how he conveys and expresses his emotions. I'm usually right on board with corby and danny, but them replaying the segment and stopping every few seconds to say "HE'S A GROWN MAN, YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME?!?!", was very much middle school bully'esk.

  13. @10:54, I was very put off by it. Bob was the only one that showed a little concern toward Computer. Everyone else jumped on the dog pile. If I was that upset after a Cowboys game I wouldn't have even called in. Computer did call to help out their show and they burned him for it. Computer admitted himself that it was ridiculous to cry over football with other more serious things going on. The HL nutt kick was unnecessary and over the top IMHO.

    P.S. Where's Gordo?

  15. is it my imagination or does George think Jake is pretty funny? He laughs at a lot of Jake's stuff, which is pretty funny at least on the morning show. Maybe he gets a little tired of Gordo's schtick.

    1. I'd venture to say the mostly silent majority thinks Jake is funny. Cat doesn't let him fill in for Gordon, promote him within the company and continue to expand his air time bc lolz, he does it bc he thinks Jake has the talent and ability based on what he hears.

  16. @Nonononever - you know what was even funnier? Jake's take on the bragging montages this morning.

Hey, that should be a segment - "Jake's Take". You're welcome, Jake.

  17. Jake's definitely had a good couple of days in the Musers.

  18. BAD is picking up speed, definitely enjoying it post Donnie...Nothing against Donnie-Doo there is just more room for everyone else.

Norm and Donnie are pretty good too...I actually find myself listening from 10-Noon

Jake is a talent...He offered great, relevant points on syria and isis. 8:40 has been solid and he fits in nicely with the musers.

THL bit with the Computer audio made me very uncomfortable, it wasn't the least bit funny or entertaining, there seemed to be no concern for the man's mental state.

And today's Enews take on Charlie Sheen today was bordering on making me uncomfortable. Clearly Charlie Sheen is a destructive human being but some of the comments form Corby and a little bit from Danny were on the self-righteous side. But i guess if they would've played a bunch of tiger blood nonsense audio I would of laughed at him so i guess that doesn't make me any better

I don't think i explained myself very well, I still love THL, but there is a bit more bullying/cockiness/holier than thou element to them lately.

  19. @Bool

It's been my theory for awhile now that Corby and Danny are trying to impress each other with their level of compassion or outrage as the circumstance dictates.

  20. Am I hearing things or has the overall "sound" of the station changed? Things sound, for lack of a better description, hot, tinny and thin with just a touch of reverb. I have noticed this on three different radios. Very odd.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Did Corby address the female engineer at the remote as "Sweetheart"?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am totally frustrated from trying to listen to the Ticket on the web today. As Mike would say" "Why can't they fix this?"

    ReplyDelete
  23. Intentional Grounding has been on for ten minutes without talking about the Cowboys, or football, or sports, but I'm still enjoying the bejeebers out of it. Really like that showgram.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, I've heard some real sounds-like-broadcasting-from-a-train-station-toilet signals over the last couple of months. (I assume we're not counting remotes here, which are hit/miss). Sometimes the station sounds good, sometimes it has a hollow, poorly-digitized sound.

Of course, maybe it's just an Reagor-Dykes Auto Group ad. I was amazed to hear that he's never won a Super Bowl or flown around the world.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I listen via the app, so I haven't noticed any sound change & I don't get to listen to The Fan very much either. But I do follow them on Twitter & The Fan runs circles around The Ticket when it comes to Twitter. I still haven't found the White Elephant lineup. The Fan would have multiple posts on it by now. I'm not sure why The Ticket as a whole doesn't see the value of Twitter as communication. There are only a few that tweet tragically, & no show specific accounts are active. The official starting Twitter handle is useless. Unlike buying the billboard Twitter is free. Is it an age thing?

  26. Jub just implied Carly Simon was "loose" for dating a number of men when she was popular, meanwhile he aggressively goes after anyone who says the same about Taylor Swift for the same behavior. He can get on my nerves with his hypocrisy sometimes. I'm glad Junez called him out for exactly that. But yeah yeah, I know, he's a good dad and that fat lady who calls in on EBOTW loves him madly or whatever. All that being said, corky is still much worse.

I haven't noticed the stream has had any sound quality problems this week. However, the last couple of weeks I've noticed some mic's are potted way low compared to others. They made some veiled complaints about the technological problems on THL yesterday when corky was trying to play something recorded on his phone.

  27. @Brad Gilbert - I'm mid-50's and don't really use Twitter so it might be an age thing. I find the noise to signal ratio very high and have a hard time sorting through the crap and getting to actual, usable content. Get off my lawn.

  30. blergoyen, I'm usually in "agreeance" with you, but not this time you might be off the rails. To put it into context, Jub made the comment in light of her writing a song about Warren Beatty's vanity vis-a-vis their rather brief "relationship." Basically he meant that she was engaging in a little game of the pot calling the kettle black. Carly herself was known back then to play the field, so to speak, extensively and breaking more than a few hearts along the way. Hence pot calling the kettle black. I don't know enough (or anything, really) about Taylor Swift to say if whether she can be compared to Carly Simon in that regard. If she can be, then perhaps Junes is right; if not, then his admonishing Jub was wrong.

  31. I bash corky quite a bit, but I don't mind giving him credit when due. His revenge/break up song "Your Cooter Stinks," sung to the tune of Ryan Adams doing Taylor Swift's "Wildest Dreams," was pretty awesome just a moment ago. Almost as good as Danny's "Puke Better."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Is it just me or has there been very little mention of the white elephant day this year? Had no idea the drawing was last night until yesterday. It's probably just me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm mid 50's and wouldn't know if Corbles was doing a song to Taylor Swift nor Ryan Adams. Although at least Ryan Adams is on KXT so I guess I should know one of his songs.

  34. I heard the station promo this morning for White Elephant Day. I'm sure by the time it gets here we will be saying "enough already."

Is the Hardline going to do their Thanksgiving show next week? Something good always comes from that.

  39. Anybody sensing any tension between Donnie/Sirois this week? I never listen 10-12 except for the BaD mix, but I have heard it both mixes this week and wondering if that's been a recurring thing ('thing' being almost-petty arguments with some annoy-toned back-and-forth). Could be a nothingburger, but j/w.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't know if any other show has done this, but the Hardline has finally executed the highwire act of discussing the legal problems of daily fantasy games. But they just characterized it as harmless fun.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I heard a bit of that today. I also heard and have been hearing A LOT of Donnie lately. I don't know if it's a planned thing between him and Norm, but it's starting to sound more and more like the Donnie Show with his elderly sidekick Norm. Heck, he even took over the helm during the Goose segment, which by all appearances throughout the years seemed to be one of Norm's all-time favorites, not too mention Norm and Goose's longtime friendship. Maybe that, too, is something Norm and Donnie are doing on purpose: a showing of the ropes, a passing of the baton or what have you not between the outgoing legend and his hand-picked replacement? If not, if it's merely Donnie asserting himself and feeling more comfortable, then boo-hiss on Donnie. Because if it isn't due to some sort of understanding/plan, Donnie is absolutely forcing himself to the fore. "Right side, outta my way!" Whatever whichever the case, I don't like it. I think Donnie is good to great in doses; I think he'd make a great friend, neighbor, family member, you name it; but when he's "on" / "putting on a show" / "being a hype man," he's annoying as all get out. I imagine that, if there is some friction building between Sirois and Donnie, and it's spilling over into the actual show, it could have to do with either Sirois protecting Norm from what he sees as Donnie bullying or taking advantage of a situation, or it could pertain to Sirois seeing Donnie as the impediment to his own daytime hosting gig. Or it could be a combination of both. Or, and most likely, it's none of that and there's no problem between them whatsoever; that this is totally a figment of certain listeners' imagination.

  42. I'm reading some of these and I've missed a lot of what you're speaking of. A Corby song about "You're Cooter Stinks"?! I'm sorry, I'm one of those guys that, some days...I just can't take Corby. A couple weeks back, I swear, seven minutes into WTDS, I had all of Corby I could take. His constant chiming in with just stupid comments was too much. I switched over to Fan and got passed their list of top sandwiches, and finished the day with that wind bag Sean Hannity.
