Well-Deserved

Some nice recognition for Donovan Lewis.  I'll get up the Morning News link when I find it.

"Going Beyond the Norm"

  1. I am happy for Donovan. Good dude and well-deserved. However, his comment about not being a stats guy and goes by what he sees stunned me. I don't consider Norm some hardcore analytics guy. I think Norm uses stats and what he sees to form solid HSO's. Donovan is now a bigtime co-host now in a major market. To not use stats to help you form a better opinion, seems really simple minded to me. And not related to the article but he has indicated in the past that he had no interest in hockey. I never ever heard him contribute to any hockey segments on Bad Radio. If I was being paid 6 figs to talk sports for 2 hours a day, I think I would mix in a Stars game now and then.

  2. Good for Donnie Doo. It's probably just the way the piece was edited, but you sorta get the feeling that Norm wishes this pairing didn't happen. I think Norm genuinely likes and respects Donnie, and wants him to succeed. But I also can discern, more and more as the weeks and months pass, an initial (perhaps a bit forced?) exuberance that is waning. You can almost hear Norm wince as Donnie takes over the Goose segment. You can actually hear Norm wince when the already short 2 hours (really, what, an 1:30 or 1:15 when you take out the spots) are cut into with an ever extending DnM mix and the subsequent, ever extending j-off session between Donnie and Sirois. Ditto with the "humorous" tangents Donnie goes off on (a la his time on BaD) when Norm is trying to get into some serious sports talk. I will say that when Donnie and Norm are on the same page, Norm seems invigorated (ewww, a vigorous Norm--poor Mary!).

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. Hope this doesn't come across too creepy, but I saw a promo for some sort of auction thing norm and his wife mary are putting on for some golf course and what not during the mavs game. She's a very beautiful woman for a lady her age. Wasn't expecting that, for reasons that are probably obvious.

  4. I can see where an attractive lady would be enamored with Norm. Norm is a very kind hearted person, very jovial, he is active in the community, and I am sure he is very wealthy and loves to travel. I'm sure Mary shares a lot of his interests.

  6. So the change in quality of the FM signal isn't just our imaginations:

  7. The Fake Dan McDowell called in to the Musers at 8:45 this a.m. singing the praises of legal marijuana. No enthusiasm, no energy, no focus and totally hilarious.

  8. The FM reception in my car is OK (no enchilada music bleeding over) but the reception on the radio in my office has been horrible this week.

The information I found says the AM transmitter is just north of Valley Ranch and the FM transmitter is just west of Sanger.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The FM transmitter is about half a mile west of Krum and AM is in Coppell. I can see the AM tower from my office window in Coppell. The Wikipedia articles for KTCK AM and FM have the transmitter coordinates if you're interested in seeing them on a map.

  10. Thanks birq.

I guess I'll be Lookin' at a Map

  11. I was thinking of putting up another post expressing the view that it didn't seem to me like the FM signal had improved any since I first wrote about its muddiness some weeks back. Like sweet Jane, the Ticket has lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same.

  12. If the Hardline boys are surprised that JWP took the County Commissioners race, they have even less political I.Q. than I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I really enjoyed Dan Paul talking about going to the symphony. Danny can be pretty good when he is not trying to bro it up with Corby or talk down to people.

    Fake Dan McDowell was greatness!

    ReplyDelete
  14. There was a noticeable difference in signal quality listening to The Hardline on my way home from work yesterday.

Beverly D'Angelo calling in for Dan's birthday was radio gold.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, I enjoyed symphony talk. Thought of sending the segment to my music major son, but some of the inside references would confuse him.

Don't know why Beverly D'Angelo felt the need to jump from gaffer-taping her boobs to are you going to vote for the devil Trump, but otherwise a segment for the vault.

  16. Poor Danny Balls got the hand to the face from Leon Bridges when Danny texted/called him to call in to THL. "I don't care if you funded your own record and own a bar, you have to go through my management."

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Hardline interview is as failed a bit as I've seen in a good while.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're right, Anon, talking to people about stuff is super gay. They should have more Ranch reports, College Football Blowhard and callers.

    ReplyDelete
  19. How does TC still not know how to use a cough button? Good lord.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The TC cough has become a bit - just like Gordon laughing before he reads a live spot.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Blergoyen - did I miss something? Did that happen to Danny?

    ReplyDelete
  22. @4:15 - yes he mentioned it while they were waiting for Bridges to call in. A lot of awkward questions followed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love the story of Leon Bridges! Absolutely love it! The whole dish-washer-makes-good thing! But [yes, there's a but]I saw him on SNL a few months back, and I'm sorry, maybe a little overrated?! I'm a huge fan of the vintage, retro look, but he's basically a modern spin on Sam Cook and some Ray Charles, but without the voice. If I'm going to listen to that genre, I'm going with the great Sam Cook. But man, I wish this kid all the luck in the world...like he really needs it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Someday there will be a great 15 for 15 on TC's employment

    ReplyDelete
  25. Man, I may be in the minority here, but BaD Radio Stars road trip radio is a thrashing of the highest order.

    ReplyDelete
  26. More Monty. No Sean. No TC. Less Jake. Less Machine. More Eli.

Yeah, it's just you. The annual BaD Stars trip rocks the bells.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow @6:34, I agree with that 100%. Wish Cat felt the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm lol'ing about the new fact I just heard that Skittles' father called the Ticket and complained about Gordo crashing Skittles' website and to leave his son alone. It never occurred to me that something like that would happen. Apparently the guy that wrote/sang "Heemit's Way" called to complain too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So they had Cat on for WTDS today, it is his birthday or something, and Dan asked him: "So Cat, when's the next Ladies Be Trippin' show?" I could not stop laughing. Dan is my leader.

I went to see the Mavs lose to the Nugs in Denver a couple days ago and Chris Arnold and a Mavs Maniac were there -- before the game and during halftime they were taking photos with Mavs fans, and there were plenty of us in attendance. Pretty cool. They were there with the older gentleman with the long white hair and sunglasses who wears the most blinged-out Mavs jacket anyone has ever seen. I'm pretty sure I've seen that guy at the AAC before, anyone know who that is? I didn't get a photo with him and I really wanted to show his jacket to my wife but I can't find anything online. They were there with a 4th guy with a big camera, maybe he was a team photographer or something; I assume the team flew them all out.

Los Mavs will be back in the Mile High City on 3/28 and I really hope they don't choke again. The Nugs are pretty darn pathetic. #MFFL

  30. And now for what's happenin' with old sweet Greggo:

Check out his Twitter feed. Holy moly. He is going OFF on Eddie Gossage from Texas Motor Speedway. He's begging for EG to sue him so the "unvarnished truth will come out." (Gee, that sounds familiar.) The insinuations and vitriol he's throwing out is just, eh, mind blowing. And on another note, he even tossed in a "THL will never have me on as a guest, I'm being blacklisted, it's a conspiracy, it's THEIR loss!" response to a "will you ever be a guest on THL" query.

Surely he's high, drunk, off meds, on meds and high or drunk, or something. Batshit crazy stuff.

  31. Maybe...or maybe it's the truth...

    ReplyDelete
  32. What in the Wild, wild ,wild world of sports is he talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Man, Mike's "on fleek" bit is pretty dang funny to me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, if anyone knows what the Eddie Gossage stuff is about, please let us know.

Also: Missed Craig's big 7:40 announcement. What was it? Thanks to the Confessor.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Craig's announcement was offering his services to channel 11 as their new lead meteorologist since their current one is leaving for a Chicago station.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Colorado P1 - His name is Don Knobler (no joke). He made a good deal of his money owning cheap rental uptown properties. The Chris Chris' gotta have a place to live down there that they can afford on the $35K/year salary while they're blasting IJB from their beamer and scoping honeys on McKinney.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My recollection from Greggo's days on the FAN was that he had a pretty controlling girlfriend. If she's still in the picture she might be filling his head with all sorts of wacky that just adds to his problems.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks 8:16! Pman the ability to crowdsource Ticket or DFW info even random bits is one of the best things about this li'l blog of yours

    ReplyDelete
  39. A Corby free day and Donnie is killing it.
    Life is good.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rhyner plus Corby equals fat cat mediocrity. Rhynes plus anyone else equals Halcyon Days Rhynes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Of course I love Mike and Donnie Doo together, but we have had way too much David Moore today!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Greggo is still at it. Now he's firing all sorts of shots at Ritchie Whitt, Sybil, and Mike Fisher.

And Catholics, Eddie Gossage, anyone who deigns to ask him to provide one tittle of evidence or at least a coherent story in lieu of so-called clues cum riddles.

Don't know if I should feel sorry for him, laugh at him, or consider him a scary individual. Maybe all 3 together are The Ticket (snare hit).

    ReplyDelete
  43. Greggo's Twitter has turned into an AMA.

    ReplyDelete
  44. how fast can you tune out when you hear Jack Kemp or TC on air? I can do it in less than a second.

Nice what George does for charity. Sad that it takes personal tragedy for guys like him to realize that the world is hard for poor people.

    Marge is a power down.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow either Greggo Hammer Williams Twitter acct got hacked or he's completely lost his mind. Holy cow that's disturbing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Does anyone know where Junior is?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Craig is out west for a bike race.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Not hacked. That's just Greggo on a "jaunt." Yes, disturbing is the apt adjective.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @carlton - pretty much stopped listening to norm and bad because of tc

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's hard to imagine a ticker guy making people turn the knob. I mean, I can't stand Sean Bass, that doesn't make me turn off the Musers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Won't be listening to the Hardline today. Wonder how many listeners they will lose thanks to the fill in co host. Time for a little afternoon show

    ReplyDelete
  52. Fill in host talk. If the readers hated Ladies Be Tripping....a fill in of epic failure NEVER gets mentioned. 8 maybe 9 years ago, a Spanish sports guy filled in for one of the shows...maybe BAD. My understanding was that he was covering for a full week. He was gone after Tuesday. Most of the callers called in speaking Spanish. He seemed like a good guy, certainly energetic. But wow....talk about making the P1 insane.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @330 - the problem is some speak way more than others outside of tickers. seabass doesnt talk much cause he has shake joint & diamond talk as a platform. tc tries to talk at every opportunity while having absolutely nothing in his bag. tune out for me

    ReplyDelete
  54. Who is better at their job Brian from Ball St or TC? I vote for Brian.

    ReplyDelete
  55. @8:49 - I completely agree. It's not just tickers, it's also the chiming in.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I meant to agree with @8:08....oops.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Brian in a landslide. Boom goes the dynamite!

    ReplyDelete
  58. another day NOT listening to the HL thanks to the presence of the ferret

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's enough, gents. We get it, you don't like TC.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jake is very solid with Mike today. Entertainment news talking about Tge passing of Keith Emerson was great - pretty hilarious. Not his death, but Mike's take on people who were into ELP. Jake asked some good questions and brought up some good points about prog rock, Tool, etc. Danny was great too. Solid segment. And TC took it on the chin from George this morning about his coughing. I hope they keep TC for a long time. The Ticket has always needed someone like him. He contributes, but since he kinda has attitude, or at least sounds like it, he takes some barbs. That's the Ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "The passing", not "Tge passing". What the hell...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pretty solid week of broadcasting from everyone, great job from the fill in guys, we had silly hardline sightings and serious hardline sightings, Doocy was great as always, the last hour of the musers was the most honest talk ive heard on the station in a long while, and Donovan fits anywhere.

I'm pretty excited by the little ticket these days.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Boo! I missed the hour of The Musers you speak of. Could you or anyone else provide a little summary?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Find it on the unticket

    ReplyDelete
  65. @ed fes

I would recommend listening to it on the unticket its start @ roughly 2:30:00 on the musers show, I don't want to cloud your judgement with my summary.

But after that disclaimer, and if you absolutely have no time to listen to it...It was just a very honest talk about the language being used in politics. I thought it was very honest talk.
