Jack McCall Confesses

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had some personal matters to tend to that were going to make me scarce for a bit.  That will probably continue for another month or so.  So I was very pleased to hear from a confessor who asks to be known as Jack McCall.  He inquired as to whether he could offer pieces for posting.  Seeing as how I've begged for volunteers in the past, I was very pleased to hear from him.

Here is his first offering, and I believe there will be more to come.  You will see that it refers to events that happened a bit ago.  I apologize to Jack and to you for my delay in getting this up.  But its point survives.

Thank You for Continuing to Shop at My Ticket Confession.

And anyone else who has an essay of any length with a worthwhile Ticket connection, please let me hear from you.  I can't promise I'll post everything, but I'll always give it a respectful and generous read.

Monday morning was especially lousy. You woke up to ongoing news from yet another mass shooting, this one barely 24-hours old and somehow even worse in toll than the others. And you woke up knowing you'd be dealing not just with the tragedy itself but the hot takes of others, including the Ticket guys.

Maybe they made you mad. Or maybe you agreed. Likely some combo. But if you're like me, maybe you just needed a damn laugh.

Which brings us to Monday morning's 8:40 guest, Exaggerator.

Gordo as some famous racehorse is always funny. But, folding the character into a Muser playlet that calls back to an absurd question Gordo once posed to baseball-great Gaylord Perry? That's next-level funny.

When George loses it I laugh out loud. Or maybe I'm already laughing because I know Gordo knows he's delivered a line so perfectly that George is about to lose it. Meanwhile, Junior lurks innocently with a can of gasoline.

The Ticket has jokes for all. But the jokes for few are the P1's real payoff. And damn those jokes feel good on an otherwise lousy morning.

Oooo, Plainsman, who's your cute friend?

  1. Interesting item over at the reddit site. BaD's contract runs out this summer. Yep, the same contract in which they took less money to stay at The Ticket. Tempus fugit, folks.

  2. Hopefully their killer ratings have given them some nifty bonuses for the supposedly lower value they originally signed for.

  3. No supposedly lower value. They admitted as much on many occasions.

  4. Do they have "Dirk status"? Meaning, will anyone be mad or blame them if they leave for more dough (in Dirk's case, chase another ring)?

  5. Here's to hoping with the new Cumulus CEO and the overall financial health of the group a little better we will not have to worry about them getting what they are due.

  8. Agree on Kasem, it has made Big Show Coming to Town must-listen for me.

  9. I would like to throw something out there to the confessor...Do you think we can petition Catman to give ol' Monty a run as the Hartline yukmonkey? Even if it was just presenting e-news, CQH, and a bit I'd be ok with that. And I'm not even sure that's Ol' Month's way in this radio world, I just want to see what you guys think.

And I think we can all use a little more Monty in our P1 lives

  10. I don't watch Game of Thrones so I don't have a dog in the fight, but is it unreasonable for certain show hosts who get to bookend their four hour shift with free time to watch all the TV they want to give listeners a few days to get caught up, or to at least lead with a spoiler warning?

  11. Love Fake Dead Casey Kasem but I was really disappointed we got so little of him yesterday.

  12. @Boo, I love Ol' Monty and would love to hear him on the Hardline, but I don't think they are going to let another voice in that room.

@8:05, totally agree. A spoiler alert is certainly in order for a show that aired two days ago. I'd say as show needs to be at least a week old before you are throwing spoilers out. Lot's of people that work normal hours, have kids, etc are naturally behind on these shows. Typical Corby however.

  13. Fake Dead Kasey Kasem is a beating. So is Elmer Wayne.

BaD is so much better with The Machine running things. Now if they could get rid of the walking e-brake that does their tickers I'd tune in more often.

Would not miss BaD if they left now that IJB has interjected themselves into the miss. Would love Not a Podcast from 12-3.

  14. In case you missed it, Corby has declared the Elvis movies unwatchable.

This from a guy who gets up in the middle of the night to watch soccer and tennis.

  15. Elvis was square in the middle of my wheelhouse....and I agree with him.

  16. How ironic that Corby complains about the excesses of Jerry spending so much money and resources on The Star training compound considering Corby et al make half million plus per year talking a few hours a day about sports. They bite the hand of sports culture that makes them millionaires.

  17. @Gopher

Not saying any Elvis movie was Gone With the Wind, but it was harmless entertainment from one of the biggest stars in music at the time. And if Corby had been our age he would have been right there in the theater with us. And as is usually the case, Mike neither agreed or disagreed with him.

On another topic, the story of Wally Lynn is really sad. Hope the story doesn't have the outcome everyone fears.

  18. Just in case anyone has read my last one or two posts, it concerns having my wife in the car while I take her to dr's appointments. I turn on sweet gentle ticket and she has to listen to Corby and Gordon do placenta talk and a few other ones I can't remember (after a few drinks).

So today, on our way to Baylor we exit at Greenville and cut down to Hwy 276 to miss all the BS wreck in Royse City. I turn over to Gordo's Corner at 9:15. Evidently the 8:40 bit was a bit crazy because at 9:15 we had to listen to 2 minutes of George's bull testicles. Then I changed it as she was really off the wall.

I have never been a Gordo fan and, to a lesser extent a Musers fan (BLASPHEMY, THEY ARE THE KING OF THE JEWS). So I don't think I can turn on the sweet ticket while the SO is in the car.

  19. Norm doesn't sound well.

  20. There's no bigger kick in the balls than to turn on The Musers for your across the Metroplex trip to work and hear the norm and d invasion instead. Also, Norm sounds like he is on his deathbed.
