A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Will Someone Please Tell Shane Mullen of Mullen & Mullen Law Firm, Sponsor of Ticketstock, What a "Spoiler" Is?
Ticketstock is here and, um, yep. 'Member when Pman would put up a post for comments by those who in attendance and/or went? When he would talk about or actually go and report on it?
Just not that compelling, buddy.
Meanwhile, over on the reddit page the masses are inthralled with playing whack-a-mole on the low hanging fruit that is The Crazy Gun Dealer's spots. The average IQ over there is way upwards of 300. Just ask 'em.
Just not that compelling, buddy.
But at least the red pics keep coming on the reg, which is nice. Some things do stay the same, and that's a good good.
Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to Gordo's sense of humor? I remmeber when he was funny. Outside of his JJ impersonation, he's hit the wall. Seemingly a self-constructed one at that.
Hanj Zone ain't that great. Sorry, it's true.
Bob's aging like a fine wine. The shirt's less stuffed and yet his compass is still magnetically sound.
I think I'm ready for a midmorn change. BITH needs to be permo, period. Love me my Norman, but let's cut that back a lot. Draft Norm, check. Cow pre Norm, check. Special guest-pop on Norm, check. Fill in during holiday's and drydock Norm, check. NAD Norm, sorry bud but it's time to gracefully exit my mainest of men.
Miss the shit out of Rhyner. Mike, not so much.
Overall the thing is doing OK. Is it Halcyon Days greatness? Not on your life. Is it 5 years ago BAD greatness? Nope. But I'll take it over The FAIL any day. And ya know what? I'll take it over satellite, Audible, or some history podcast put on by an Elaine Pagels sort. That is, the overly degreed, total ultimate platinum level tiered celeb scholar or wannabe scholar who lays on you "the REAL history," which in reality is an controversial reading fraught with, ahem, "problematics."
Even though it's mostly a snooze these days, Go Ticket and go Pman. Go mfers, go.
(reddit site, not so much. The Whopper is much better than the BK line of sandwiches... you follow?)
250: You're going into the Confessor Hall of Fame for your "Elaine Pagels" remark. Tickled me stupid.
Yeah, I used to have more interest in Ticketstock, and got there a few times. I've been location-disadvantaged the last few years, but maybe will try to schedule for it next year. Would love to have Confessors who attend post some reports.
Gotta tell you -- I kinda miss MTC. My listening to the station has actually increased some over the past couple of months, as my three novels are now out (self-published and flying off the shelves -- nobody buying them, but they're flying off the shelves). I've got a new literary project that will take some marketing effort, but in general, I have more time to listen.
And I hear stuff and I think -- that would be a good MTC topic. But then I think about the difficulties that Blogger has introduced into the process, and it thrashes me. I hate writing longer stuff in the freakin' comments section. I've researched other easy-to-use blogging platforms, but haven't settled on anything easier-enough-to-use. Perhaps should budget some time for that.
In fact, I wrote a lengthy piece on the Cowboys not long ago, but have withheld it for that reason (i.e., having to bury it in the comments). With the Rich "Fix This S" Darymple flap, McCarthy's goofball rebellion with Rich Eisen, I may revive it.
I have no idea how many people still check in. For those of you who do, many thanks for your eyes and your voices.
If they only knew about their fans, I'm sure the reds would thank you, too.
Means the world to me, Pman. "But hey, she's teaches religious studies at Princeton and has published dozens of best-selling books!" Yeah, and every one of 'em belongs on the fantasy/sci-fi shelf. Jaroslav Pelikan, she ain't. Think Dan Brown with a doctorate and far better connected.
I must say, I agree with 250. And, for the beating it is, appreciate you keeping the site up.
I too, think Reddit is just pathetic.
250, your NAD thoughts segue into a hypothetical bouncing in my head. There is a host chai open at the Fan. There is some midday KTCK talent wanting a host chair. Does that tend to force the Catman's hand?
That top ten Hardline segment from yesterday where Bob gets fed up with Corby and rips him a new one was priceless. Finally called out his clueless takes on the air.
MTC once again demonstrates its massive influence over The Ticket and its sponsors:
Shane Mullen of Mullen & Mullen Law Firm has quit referring to "spoilers" in his commercials.
========
831, are you referring to the discussion of Aaron Rodgers and his girlfriend? Yes, that was an interesting discussion, although not clearly enough a rebuke of Corby's misinformation or muddled reasoning. I frankly wasn't entirely clear on what Corby was trying to say. It sounded like he was declaring that his decision to stay in Green Bay "100%" explained the circumstances surrounding their breakup (apparently nonexistent) and/or Rodgers' decision to stay in Green Bay.
As I say, not entirely clear what Corby was 100% guaranteeing, but in any case -- yeah, kind of sounded like Mr. Packer himself wasn't having a helping of that one way or the other.
I listened to the exchange via The Top Ten on the station site. Unless part of the discussion was edited out (but from the time length of the segment, I can't imagine that being so), I'm not sure what the big deal is. The "heat" barely lasted 45 seconds and at best was tepid in temperature.
Corby seems to project, A LOT. Because money or a safety net has never been an issue for him, he seems to think that those with money make decisions based upon something other than money. Hence, his Rodgers among many other takes. He also tends towards the tabloid. Corby says many things, perhaps far too many things about, well, everything. He becomes Suddenly Expert Man aka I Just Formed An Opinion Based On My Unicorn-esque And Bubble-like Life Experience And Lifestyle Man, spouts something off ex tempore, and quickly moves on. This is short for "talks out of his ass." Bob doesn't do that. While Bob does get things wrong, he's mostly measured, thoughtful, and seems to remember what he and others say about x, y, and z.
Out of curiosity, why do you think Bob came of way worse, Surly?
The Rant replay that the Hardline did yesterday and I heard this morning before the Hot Push boys came on really makes me shake my head. I have never understood why so many of the ticket host think that child molestation humor scenarios are a font of laughs. I know it was from years ago on the Rant but they still found it funny enough to replay now. I've never gotten it and I still don't.
Alright, SA, I'm biting. Don't care if I'm biting air, I'm biting. In a weird way, I (dare I say all Confessors) need something big to happen in the world that doesn't involve the end of humankind, the environment as we know it, etc. So if this actually is your final post (leaving The Ticket and will no longer have insider info?), give a hint....
I think So Anon might be referring to something brewing with The Tee Box, Rick Arnett, Sculling Bozzz, Eli/Country Force, and (obviously) some sort of personal/behind the scenes chaos and subsequent on-air-shakeup-in-the-offing. Am I wrong here guys? Guys? Anyone who's listend to TTB and especially the TB/CF mix over the lasst several weeks knows that something isn't kosher. Lot's of Rick free shows, Eli cohosting both TTB and CF, and just an all around "NDA-ish/elephant in the room" vibe.
Considering Rick Arnett's been with the station longer than Corby or anyone else not a Muser or Fernando (longer than Cat, even), I'd say if that's the scuttle, then the butt clench is justified.
Let's see: Upcoming NFL Draft, Norm's age/health, Sirois and others (oh yeah, and the starving waif, the ever maligned, the never given a shot in her hard-scrabbled, hard-knocked life Julie "Living Wage" Dobbs, too) not only more than ready and busting at the seams for a shot, but also the clamor from the P1s for their promotion to Tier 1 bordering on the obnoxious...... So, I say Norm makes a big announcement right before or during the last hour of draft coverage. Says he's gone August or September 1, goes on his farewell "tour" consisting of 3 months of well-earned retrospectives, respects paid, and liberties given. Then Bewm takes over (with the heretofore mistreated Living Wage in either the producer or 3rd host role) and a long needed reshuffling of the M-F schedule takes place. Am I in the ballpark parking lot, at least? Guys? Guys?
Having said the above, something tells me this might be Jake related. I think Jake (and especially Mrs. Jake) has eyes on bigger prizes than even the vaunted Ticket where sports media is concerned. That or the inevitable has finally happened. The inevitable meaning that 28 years on and other than Greggo, there's never been a host who got himself into something that necessitated termination. And even Greggo's axing was due to refusing to take drug tests, failure to show up for work, habitual lying, etc. I'm talking here about something criminal, an indictment, or behavior that if publicly exposed, would be embarrassing for several parties, to say the least. Not insinuating that if the latter scenario is the case, it's Jake. Not at all. Could be anyone. It is a rare bird that in nearly 30 years no scandal has ever occurred (at least none has made it to the surface). Like I said, Greggo wasn't scandalous, just sad.
Bird chirpin' 'bout taking a new one into her fold. Majestic bird, at that. Once upon a time, the bird ruled the roost. Trying to reassert its dominance. But this chickling's playing it cool. Saw its mum n da play it cool and parlay. So Anny, so right on. Cuz this time, the parlay going the other way.
Have a feeling The Eagle and/or The FAN made offers to Jake and he, like BaD, negotiated from there. And like BaD, Jake decided he'd rather stay put than take the extra money now, perhaps losing money (and a job) in the nearish future. At the time of So Anonymous's comment, my guess is that the winds were blowing strongly in the direction of Jake's departure, to the point of fait accompli. Hence the hold onto your butts admonition.
If that's not it, then other than some sort of scandal a la 3/29 229pm's comment, I've no idea. Perhaps chains (foremostly mine) are being yanked. . . . .
Listen to the latest IJB with TC's wife and you will come to the conclusion that it would have been a package deal with Jake teaming in some capacity with TC at another station. He all but said that it seemed.
Why would it be TC and Jake? What station would want TC as part of that deal? I don't hate TC or anything but he wouldn't drive me to listen to a station or show I wasn't already invested in.
I understand a lot of people hate TC but that’s not a bad thing in terms of popularity, which is what radio rating are.
Think about it this way, if you heard Shawn Bass and Jake you likely wouldn’t have even posted bc Bass just doesn’t move the needle at all. TC, love him or hate him moves the needle.
I've given some thought to trying to reboot this site as a Facebook page, but haven't quite figured out the best way to do it re anonymity, "members," policing, "groups," etc. Would make it easier to post photos, links, and the like, and, unlike Blogger, main text would actually be readable.
I would think hating someone is a bad thing in terms of popularity. Maybe some people “hate” listen but I think that’s a fairly small number. TC paired with Jake wouldn’t get me to listen anymore than TC paired with Sean. I might be in the minority on that and I’m close to aging out of the demo so no one would really care if I listened or not.
TC "moves the needle" for a specific group of Ticket listeners. Outside of that rather small bubble, no so much. If that scenario is true (regardless of any read or misread), then Jake made the right decision.
As to moving MTC to FB. If that happens, I'm out. FB is shitty. Social media is shitty. TBH, Plainsman, what specifically about this platform do you find so bothersome? It's not as if you're posting up graphs, charts, spreadsheets, or anything bandwidth eating. The whole thing consists of text and a copied and pasted pic of some rando red. What do you need from a platform? You seem to have no problem deleting comments. Does monetizing the thing come into play here? What gives? I'm new to the internet. Help me understand.
Multiple people have commented and specifically mentioned TC. He hasn’t worked at the Ticket in years now yet we are discussing him. That’s the needle moving. The fact that you care enough to comment about him makes him relevant and to some degree a commodity. Polarization sells.
Again. Small. Very. Small. Number. Of. Listeners. Care. Or. Even. Remember. The. Regonk. Guy. And that's what he's known for, if he's remembered at all. Just like a small, very small number of listeners know about, much less frequent, this site (and those who contribute even smaller). Ditto, reddit. Perspective, buddy. Perspective. So, please, stop this "moving the needle" arm chair PD nonsense.
Imagine: "Hey TOLOS! Chris 'Is that plagiarism?' Arnold here and let me tell you, hiring new talent is a spoht. And wooooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeee do we have a new hire for ya! Our new man, TC, used to do spohts updates at the top and bottom of the hour on the station we can't mention that beats the living shit outta us every quarter. Hasn't worked there in nearly half a decade, but still hosts a podcast where he has trouble articulating a thought without saying "like" and "fuck" between every 3rd word. But hey TOLOS, he gets A LOT of criticism and even a few thumbs ups on a fan blog and a reddit page dedicated to that asskicker station I ain't gonna mention! Dude moves the needle! Woooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
You care so much about TC that you couldn’t resist coming back here to discuss him…You could have just ignored all this but you didn’t bc deep down it moved your, and others, needle enough to comment.
Jerry Jones doesn’t care why you are talking about the cowboys as long as you are talking about the cowboys. You can hate TC and hate/disagree with me all you want but it won’t change the fact that you are he discussing him and that is good for business.
I tend to agree, having looked into it, that Facebook is not the answer. I have looked into other blogging platforms, but haven't really had the time to figure out how they work. Not user friendly to an analog guy like me.
The problem here is this: Blogger used to allow fairly edit-friendly and attractive layouts for the blog entries themselves. Somewhere along the line, that changed, and now, it's a freakin' mess. Even when I attach a red, I have no idea what is going to look like until I "publish." It's pretty awful. If I have article-appropriate thoughts to post, I can do what I've been doing, which is put them in the first comment, but there's something lame about that, although no faithful Confessors seem to have much trouble with it.
Anyway, wanted you to know I haven't abandoned the site or The Ticket itself. Sometimes can listen a lot, sometimes not so much. Mrs. Plainsman is in the hospital right now (she's fine, thanks for your anticipated good wishes), and I myself have been tied up on other projects.
But my heart is with the Confessors and the Little One, and I hope to revive this joint before too much more time passes.
Thanks for you continued support, and for Shopping at My Ticket Confession.
He really hates this site. Although if you go back and look at TC-related posts, you'll find that I was frequently, although not always, a booster. I thought he would be a success in Pensacola, the more fool me. But I had some pretty solid inside info on his position among his Ticket colleagues and posted it, and he did not like that. Got some fairly unpleasant emails from him; I don't consider myself a "shitstain," but maybe I am. Dunno. Can't say I blame him for not liking criticism, but it didn't have to do much with his on-air work, which had gotten progressively better. Sometimes quite good. And I'm not being snotty when I say I was impressed that he was able to trap a wild hog.
In his early days at The Ticket, he seemed to be little more than a BaD Radio whipping boy, and his on-air assignments were sometimes painful. (I'm remembering a live interview of -- was it Ann-Margaret at some local appearance? -- that seemed particularly difficult; anyone remember that?) Did Gordon send him up with an impression once or twice? I seem to recall it.
But as time went by, he became more self-assured and better on the air, and by the time he left The Ticket for the Pensacola gig, I thought he had really come along as a personality, if not as a colleague. Kind of unfair that he is mainly remembered for "ragonk." I have only heard a very little bit of It's Just Banter; a little vulgar for my tastes, but you know how The Kids talk these days.
OK, now I've forgotten: Why are we talking about TC now? Was there some thought he was going on-air on another station with Jake? I have missed out on a lot of listening the last couple of weeks.
I get an email notification when someone post on a discussion thread and I enjoy the site so I visit it fairly regularly, it’s not going out of my way to post a comment in a discussion I’m already involved in. I don’t consider myself a TC hater certainly not a you hater as I don’t even know you. I tend to reserve the emotional state of hate for people who have truly wronged me. I don’t believe however, that discussing TC translates to ratings. I don’t listen to IJB. I don’t discount that some people hate listen but I’m not one of them. I don’t know that another station thing Jake away would be a big splash in the radio market. I think it would have taken a whole show leaving the ticket to have been “hold on to your butts” worthy.
Chris K, are you Mike in Duncanville? Because you sure sound like him. While you're more than welcome to voice your opinion, and as often as you like, neither the opinion nor any amount of reiterations of it will change the fact that it's (being charitable here) silly. "Moves the needle." Think about that statement for a moment. KDF is more right than not saying Jake joining another station wouldn't actually be that big of a deal. At the most, for one month there might be a buzz among a SMALL faction of listeners that will have their world upended. After that, it'll be like he was never on The Ticket. Trust me. Happened with Greggo (MUCH bigger "needle mover" than Jake *TC doesn't even register*). Happened with Rhyner (MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger "needle mover" than Greggo). To quote Dan: "It's the way it is." Stop getting your micro and meta pictures from reddit. Oh, and responding to comments does not equate "moving the needle." It's called DISCOURSE.
Moving the needle would at the very least mean heated back and forths of I hate and I love TC. That's not going on here. It's basically you having a take and everyone else telling you you're misreading the situation. It's not about TC. It's about your comment. By your way of thinking if anybody's moving the needle it would be you.
Okay guys, you win TC means nothing to you and no one in town cares about him at all. The drop request on todays WTDS wasn’t a request for TC drops and none of you spent two days replying to comments about him.
Chris K, it seems you equate moving the needle with polarizing. If that's so, and it seems to be, then why didn't Rocco Pendola work out? Rocco was polarizing in both his sports analyses and demeanor/dealings with others. He was the total package, if you will. Yet he failed, and failed big. It was TC's refusal (as a JV, mind you) to pay up or pay in full show bets and to do anything that wasn't in his job description that made him polarizing. TC, at least on-air, reeked of entitlement. As if the world owed him something. It was, for many, quite a turn off. Others were OK with it. If you believe that adds up to being a compelling full-time host, you're welcome to it. But it doesn't. See Pensacola. (Aside: it was someone with your same mindset that hired TC for that gig; the same someone who had no idea what the hell they were doing and the station went bust within a few months.) Also see what happened post Pensacola. Was The Needle Mover, hot off being The Man, flooded with job offers *any job offer*? No. He went back, p/t at first, to The Ticket doing Tickers. And the Jerry Jones comp is so silly that it doesn't deserve explanation. If you can't see the difference on that one, I'm not sure what to say. In a way I hope you're merely trolling, Chris K. If not, seek help, madam/sir/xe/it.
That comment, and an earlier one, were deleted for name-calling.
And I'm pretty close to deleting the last two Anonymous posts for the same reason. I really should. Perhaps 236 and 238 would care to self-delete and repost without the personal aspersions.
Really? If so, I have to believe that's a change. Confessors have been self-deleting for a long time, and I'd be surprised if none of them were anonymous. Perhaps another one of those self-defeating changes Google has introduced into Blogger.
Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps he accidently chose Anonymous. If you do, you get the following message:
Anonymous Comment with your Google account if you’d like to be able to manage your comments in the future. If you comment anonymously, you won’t be able to edit or delete your comment. Learn more
The April Fools open ranks with Fight Night as my least favorite Ticket events. I think both events are probably fun in person but I don't think they are good radio. Maybe I'm just not enough into golf for it to appeal to me. Plus, there will be a more Corby than I can handle.
Hmmmmm... If Warshaw's consortium does take over, it's probably not a good thing for our heroes, as his large money interests seem to focus on purchasing debt.
I grew up on Norm's KLIF show. He was on the radio every morning in my parents car on the way to school. I have nothing but respect and affection for the man but I have to say it is probably time for him to move on to whatever is next for him in life. Solo Norm shows are a hard listen for me now. He needs Donnie or Mike badly.
I think the Norm Hitzges So Long And Thanks For All The Fish And In The Pro Bowl Today Farewll Tour begins Day One of the NFL Draft. Bewm (now including a third host, aka The Living Wage) soon takes over and there's a slight reshuffling of show lengths: DnM 6-9, Bewm 9-12, THZ 13-3, THL 3-6, and rounding things off from 6-8 (followed by the Top 10) will be WiP... starring the two rising stars, Monty and Mino.
On another note, anyone have an idea what's going on with The Tee Box? Rick's been out for a month or so. Eli made mention of "while I've been filling in this past month" on Saturday, but there was no follow up statement.
From what the Musers said this morning it sounds like Norm didn't make the trip to Vegas. Was that the plan all along and I missed it or is this a late development? I also noticed today that Bob received top billing on the draft coverage, which I don't recall being the case in the past. It does make me think that Norm's departure from the station is coming sooner than we might have thought.
They have had his hometown listed in the places they would be reporting from for quite a bit I think. Makes you wonder if he will make the Campound this year? I was kinda expectation The Announcement over a glass of merlot during a deep night Ticket segment.
I never for a moment thought Norm was going to Vegas. He stopped working at the station months ago. Would have to believe that an announcement is forthcoming. And as brave as Shaggy's comment is (and always are), 4/24-5:43pm's thoughts might be more correct than not.
Uh, did Norm make an announcement? Of course not. You all are delusional. Bennett will literally have to fire Norm, and that's not happening anytime soon. All who hold the idea he knows his fastball is off and is making plans for a graceful exit, and also making room for others have either not been paying attention or are newish listeners. Norm is a good guy with a philanthropists' heart. But he also has an ego that dwarfs the Atlantic and always does what serves it.
So. Whatever So Anonymous is referring to, barring Cumulus firing/forcing retirement, it doesn't pertain to Norm.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the business of sports talk is quickly returning to its roots (i.e., actual caller driven sports talk about *gasp* sports). The guy talk phenomenon has been waning for a goodly time and is now on its way out. Look for changes in content, style and formatics to be implemented over the coming quarters.
Please look to other markets where the sports-guy-talk format has returned to a more traditional (see: generic and boring) Xs and Os centric focus. Yes, some aspects of guy talk remain, but again the focus now lies on the sports side of the discussion. The Ticket is one of the few remaining 1998-2018 hey day of guy talk centric sports radio.
It's coming, people. Buckle up buttercups and get ready for change.
THIS is what SA is referring to. Not some "BEWM in Da House / Free Sirois / Norm is Old / Gordon to SNL / Craig and George are old and dumb and are leaving B.S.
Why would we have to “hold onto our butts” for a gradual shift from guy talk to caller-driven old school sports talk? Are you also saying no more Gordo segments? No more musrrs music segments? No more 1:30 news? No more E-news? No more Community Quick Hits? No more Bob’s World? no more Wake and Blake/the Hang Zone’s entire first segment? No more Pig Pen? (Well one can hope for that last one, anyway)
I ageee that Norm isn’t planning on leaving I’m just not sure how long the choice will be his. He’s at an age where health generally goes one way. I’ve seen it with my own parents that are Norm’s age. A year ago I wouldn’t have even considered Norm being close to leaving but his health has declined significantly in the last year. I’m just not sure how long he’ll be physically able to continue. I wouldn’t consider Norm’s departure hold on to your butts worthy as we should be prepared for it to happen given his age and recent health issues. Don’t get me wrong, it would me a major event but I wouldn’t be shocked by it.
KDF. PS for some reason my phone is not letting me sign in to my Google account through blogger. This platform is weird sometimes.
The "hold onto your butts" is that we will soon be noticing a marked shift in presentation across the board. Not all guy segments will go away. I previously said as much. But the driving force will be sports, caller based, at that. So, while an overly long intro to a show and a "heritage" segment here and there will remain (notice: "a/here and there", not "all"), yes, some things like, e.g., Bob's World, Pig Pen, etc., will go away. It will be a shock when one Friday Scattershooting is gone. And one day you think to yourself, "ya know I never hear about Kemp Spin anymore, much less hear a segment." It is "hold onto your butts" worthy. The morning show won't be as affected because they are an a.m. drive program, after all, and whacky pays the bills. Still, there will be much less "Sasquatch Basketball Talk" and the likes. It's going to suck, make no mistake about it. But it's coming. If you think the mighty yet littlest of Ticket is immune to such coporate wankery, you, dear madam/sir/it/xe/polyamorous Gouldian Finch/rear fender off a Kawasaki KX 250, couldn't be more wrong.
I'm not a Day 1 P-1 because my perception of an all-sports station was reading box scores on the air. When I did finally start listening to the Ticket it was the guytalk that lured me in. I'm not surprised that guytalk is on the wane because guytalk by its nature is politically incorrect.
Campound is one of my favorite events, or it has been in the past. There will be a definite upswing in my TSL for the next few days. Unless my lack of tolerance for the Snake throws the balance of fun listen to beating off.
Tuned in last night to the edible hour and the start of Mav's Theater 1310. Edible Hour seemed like an Andy Kaufman bit, the humor of which eluded me. Once it bleed into the start of Mav's theater 1310 it was unlistenable IMO.
Again, I can't say if it was bad or if I've just heard the bits so many times before it no longer holds my interest and it focused on my least favorite personalities on the little Ticket. The Star's game will cut heavily into the deep night Ticket tonight but hopefully what we get will be quality.
Here I was thinking I was the only person who cringes every time he hears that advertisement.
ReplyDeleteIf we could check the tapes I wonder how many times over the years the Ticket hosts have trashed personal injury lawyers.
ReplyDeleteTicketstock is here and, um, yep. 'Member when Pman would put up a post for comments by those who in attendance and/or went? When he would talk about or actually go and report on it?
ReplyDeleteJust not that compelling, buddy.
The Whopper is much better than the BK line of sandwiches... you follow?)
enthralled. dum dum typing fingers.
ReplyDeleteremmeber, naw, i stand by it. i like that one.
ReplyDeleteoh the an in lieu of a def article? it's all good. live by the fast type, die by the fast type.
ReplyDelete250: You're going into the Confessor Hall of Fame for your "Elaine Pagels" remark. Tickled me stupid.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I used to have more interest in Ticketstock, and got there a few times.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I agree with 250. And, for the beating it is, appreciate you keeping the site up.
ReplyDeleteI too, think Reddit is just pathetic.
250, your NAD thoughts segue into a hypothetical bouncing in my head. There is a host chai open at the Fan. There is some midday KTCK talent wanting a host chair. Does that tend to force the Catman's hand?
Pelikan was at Yale when I was there. Never took a class with him. RIP.
ReplyDeleteOooh, innarestin' thought there, Scott. Good on ya. Let's keep an eye and ear out.
ReplyDeletePman, ya dummy! You're smart enough to get into Yale but not enough to take a class with Pelikan?! Oh to have had that opportunity...
ReplyDeleteYout' is wasted on the young.
That top ten Hardline segment from yesterday where Bob gets fed up with Corby and rips him a new one was priceless. Finally called out his clueless takes on the air.
ReplyDeleteMTC once again demonstrates its massive influence over The Ticket and its sponsors:
ReplyDeleteShane Mullen of Mullen & Mullen Law Firm has quit referring to "spoilers" in his commercials.
========
Bob actually came off way worse in that discussion
ReplyDeleteI listened to the exchange via The Top Ten on the station site. Unless part of the discussion was edited out (but from the time length of the segment, I can't imagine that being so), I'm not sure what the big deal is. The "heat" barely lasted 45 seconds and at best was tepid in temperature.
ReplyDeleteCorby seems to project, A LOT.
ReplyDeleteFor all you Mike Rhyner fans, he is making a fill-in appearance on Ben & Skin today. 2-5 if I am not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteB&S also archive their shows as podcasts on the Eagle website.
ReplyDeletemy final post. hold on to your butts.
ReplyDeleteAlright, SA, I'm biting.
ReplyDeleteI think So Anon might be referring to something brewing with The Tee Box, Rick Arnett, Sculling Bozzz, Eli/Country Force, and (obviously) some sort of personal/behind the scenes chaos and subsequent on-air-shakeup-in-the-offing.
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to hold by butt for the Tee Box? Please.
ReplyDeleteConsidering Rick Arnett's been with the station longer than Corby or anyone else not a Muser or Fernando (longer than Cat, even), I'd say if that's the scuttle, then the butt clench is justified.
ReplyDeleteit will all be obvious
ReplyDeleteLet's see: Upcoming NFL Draft, Norm's age/health, Sirois and others (oh yeah, and the starving waif, the ever maligned, the never given a shot in her hard-scrabbled, hard-knocked life Julie "Living Wage" Dobbs, too) not only more than ready and busting at the seams for a shot, but also the clamor from the P1s for their promotion to Tier 1 bordering on the obnoxious...... Guys? Guys?
ReplyDeleteHaving said the above, something tells me this might be Jake related.
ReplyDeleteAt the alamo drafthouse last night dan said jake was out during contract negotiation
ReplyDeleteBird chirpin' 'bout taking a new one into her fold. Majestic bird, at that. Once upon a time, the bird ruled the roost. Trying to reassert its dominance. But this chickling's playing it cool. Saw its mum n da play it cool and parlay. So Anny, so right on. Cuz this time, the parlay going the other way.
ReplyDeleteJake (and DAN?) to KEGL?! wow
ReplyDeleteSomebody get Richie Whitt on the case!
ReplyDeleteMeh. Jake is back on The Hang Zone
ReplyDeleteHave a feeling The Eagle and/or The FAN made offers to Jake and he, like BaD, negotiated from there.
ReplyDeleteIf that's not it, then other than some sort of scandal a la 3/29 229pm's comment, I've no idea. Perhaps chains (foremostly mine) are being yanked. . . . .
Listen to the latest IJB with TC's wife and you will come to the conclusion that it would have been a package deal with Jake teaming in some capacity with TC at another station. He all but said that it seemed.
ReplyDeleteWhy would it be TC and Jake? What station would want TC as part of that deal? I don't hate TC or anything but he wouldn't drive me to listen to a station or show I wasn't already invested in.
ReplyDeleteI understand a lot of people hate TC but that’s not a bad thing in terms of popularity, which is what radio rating are.
DeleteThink about it this way, if you heard Shawn Bass and Jake you likely wouldn’t have even posted bc Bass just doesn’t move the needle at all. TC, love him or hate him moves the needle.
lol, you very much misinterpreted what TC said
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm still here and policing comments.
ReplyDeleteI've given some thought to trying to reboot this site as a Facebook page, but haven't quite figured out the best way to do it re anonymity, "members," policing, "groups," etc.
ReplyDeleteTC "moves the needle" for a specific group of Ticket listeners. Outside of that rather small bubble, no so much. If that scenario is true (regardless of any read or misread), then Jake made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteAs to moving MTC to FB.
A Bit Befuddled in Bedford
I'm sure Plainsman will explain in detail but I follow another blogger on this platform and he has the same complaints.
ReplyDeleteMultiple people have commented and specifically mentioned TC. He hasn’t worked at the Ticket in years now yet we are discussing him. That’s the needle moving. The fact that you care enough to comment about him makes him relevant and to some degree a commodity. Polarization sells.
ReplyDeleteAgain. Small. Very. Small. Number. Of. Listeners. Care. Or. Even. Remember. The. Regonk.
ReplyDeleteImagine: "Hey TOLOS!
Or some such.
You care so much about TC that you couldn’t resist coming back here to discuss him…You could have just ignored all this but you didn’t bc deep down it moved your, and others, needle enough to comment.
DeleteJerry Jones doesn’t care why you are talking about the cowboys as long as you are talking about the cowboys. You can hate TC and hate/disagree with me all you want but it won’t change the fact that you are he discussing him and that is good for business.
Re a new platform for MTC.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree, having looked into it, that Facebook is not the answer.
RE: TC.
ReplyDeleteHe really hates this site.
ReplyDeleteChris K, are you Mike in Duncanville?
ReplyDeleteI second ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteMoving the needle would at the very least mean heated back and forths of I hate and I love TC.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteSo, Jake didn't have a competing offer. He was just demanding a higher salary after getting screwed over for 2 years
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess So Anonymous is full of shit.
ReplyDeleteForgot to add.
ReplyDeleteChris K, it seems you equate moving the needle with polarizing.
One more thing. The comment that Pman deleted asked if you were Mike in Duncanville. It is a fair question. Because, yeah, you seem wackadoodle.
ReplyDeleteThat comment, and an earlier one, were deleted for name-calling.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm pretty close to deleting the last two Anonymous posts for the same reason. I really should. Perhaps 236 and 238 would care to self-delete and repost without the personal aspersions.
Come on, troops.
Anonymous comments can't be edited or deleted by the author. Only those associated with an email address or some other account.
ReplyDeleteReally? If so, I have to believe that's a change. Confessors have been self-deleting for a long time, and I'd be surprised if none of them were anonymous. Perhaps another one of those self-defeating changes Google has introduced into Blogger.
ReplyDeleteIn any event, thanks for the info.
No, it’s always been that way
ReplyDeleteSurly's correct. Always has been.
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad to know this.
ReplyDeleteAlthough . . . is this telling us that Surly sometimes posts anonymously?
Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps he accidently chose Anonymous. If you do, you get the following message:
ReplyDeleteAnonymous
Comment with your Google account if you’d like to be able to manage your comments in the future. If you comment anonymously, you won’t be able to edit or delete your comment. Learn more
I always post "anonymously". Meaning, I am never logged into a google or email account.
ReplyDeleteBut I always enter my name.
But simply entering a name does not allow me to edit or delete my comments
ReplyDeleteHa, ok that was me too
ReplyDeleteDan said that Jake actually put in his 2 weeks' notice before coming back
ReplyDeleteI heard it too. When they say stuff like that on the air I can feel my chain being jerked.
ReplyDeleteThat's not how Dan operates in this context. Especially when you throw in Mino's comment from last week...it happened.
ReplyDeleteThe April Fools open ranks with Fight Night as my least favorite Ticket events. I think both events are probably fun in person but I don't think they are good radio. Maybe I'm just not enough into golf for it to appeal to me. Plus, there will be a more Corby than I can handle.
ReplyDeleteJeff Warshaw offers to buy Cumulus for ~$1.2B
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm... If Warshaw's consortium does take over, it's probably not a good thing for our heroes, as his large money interests seem to focus on purchasing debt.
ReplyDeleteI grew up on Norm's KLIF show. He was on the radio every morning in my parents car on the way to school. I have nothing but respect and affection for the man but I have to say it is probably time for him to move on to whatever is next for him in life. Solo Norm shows are a hard listen for me now. He needs Donnie or Mike badly.
ReplyDeleteeverything is still in play
ReplyDeleteNo it's not. Jake's not going anywhere. No one is except maybe Norm, and that isn't hold onto your butts stuff. Fool us again, shame on us.
ReplyDeleteSo Anonymous, so full of it.
Sorry, 123, SA is correct.
ReplyDeleteIf your way is through The Hardline, your way is about to go under construction, to say the very least.
Take that as you will and carry out the plan of the day.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, anyone have an idea what's going on with The Tee Box? Rick's been out for a month or so. Eli made mention of "while I've been filling in this past month" on Saturday, but there was no follow up statement.
0% chance of that happening
ReplyDeleteYou're so brave, Shaggy.
ReplyDeleteFrom what the Musers said this morning it sounds like Norm didn't make the trip to Vegas. Was that the plan all along and I missed it or is this a late development? I also noticed today that Bob received top billing on the draft coverage, which I don't recall being the case in the past. It does make me think that Norm's departure from the station is coming sooner than we might have thought.
ReplyDeleteThey have had his hometown listed in the places they would be reporting from for quite a bit I think. Makes you wonder if he will make the Campound this year? I was kinda expectation The Announcement over a glass of merlot during a deep night Ticket segment.
ReplyDeleteI never for a moment thought Norm was going to Vegas. He stopped working at the station months ago. Would have to believe that an announcement is forthcoming. And as brave as Shaggy's comment is (and always are), 4/24-5:43pm's thoughts might be more correct than not.
ReplyDeleteUh, did Norm make an announcement? Of course not. You all are delusional. Bennett will literally have to fire Norm, and that's not happening anytime soon. All who hold the idea he knows his fastball is off and is making plans for a graceful exit, and also making room for others have either not been paying attention or are newish listeners. Norm is a good guy with a philanthropists' heart. But he also has an ego that dwarfs the Atlantic and always does what serves it.
ReplyDeleteSo. Whatever So Anonymous is referring to, barring Cumulus firing/forcing retirement, it doesn't pertain to Norm.
Well said 11:10. If Norm has his way they'll be wheeling him out of the station. He has shown no indication that he'll call it quits voluntarily.
ReplyDeleteHate to be the bearer of bad news, but the business of sports talk is quickly returning to its roots (i.e., actual caller driven sports talk about *gasp* sports). The guy talk phenomenon has been waning for a goodly time and is now on its way out. Look for changes in content, style and formatics to be implemented over the coming quarters.
ReplyDeletePlease look to other markets where the sports-guy-talk format has returned to a more traditional (see: generic and boring) Xs and Os centric focus.
ReplyDeleteI ageee that Norm isn’t planning on leaving I’m just not sure how long the choice will be his.
ReplyDeleteKDF.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Day 1 P-1 because my perception of an all-sports station was reading box scores on the air. When I did finally start listening to the Ticket it was the guytalk that lured me in. I'm not surprised that guytalk is on the wane because guytalk by its nature is politically incorrect.
ReplyDeleteDang no new posts in 3 months. How about something new in honor of The Woodford Reserve Musers Ticket Campound today?
ReplyDeleteCampound is one of my favorite events, or it has been in the past. There will be a definite upswing in my TSL for the next few days. Unless my lack of tolerance for the Snake throws the balance of fun listen to beating off.
ReplyDeleteThings that sound dirty but probably weren't intended to be...
ReplyDelete@Surly
ReplyDeleteWell done, sir, well done.
Should have read: Unless my lack of tolerance for the Snake throws off the balance of fun listen to beating.
Tuned in last night to the edible hour and the start of Mav's Theater 1310. Edible Hour seemed like an Andy Kaufman bit, the humor of which eluded me. Once it bleed into the start of Mav's theater 1310 it was unlistenable IMO.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I can't say if it was bad or if I've just heard the bits so many times before it no longer holds my interest and it focused on my least favorite personalities on the little Ticket. The Star's game will cut heavily into the deep night Ticket tonight but hopefully what we get will be quality.
They'll be on streaming platforms during Stars
ReplyDeleteNew post up.
ReplyDelete
