Hey, Junior, I Liked Your "Profar, So Good" Pun

Heck, I even liked your Mitzi Gaynor pun.  ("Did she invent the half, or the full?")

Mitzi Gaynor, back in the day

Your Profar pun reminds me of one of my favorites.  Noel Coward had appeared with Keir Dullea in a 1965 Otto Preminger film, "Bunny Lake Is Missing."  When asked for his opinion about the up-and-comer, who would go on to star in "2001:  A Space Odyssey" three years later, he remarked:

"Keir Dullea, gone tomorrow."

No, this is not the sizzling STD I mentioned in the last comment.

  1. I'll have to admit it took me a few years to come around on Junior. I always felt George carried the show and Craig was along for the ride. So he either stepped up his game or I finally came to appreciate what he was bringing to the show.

On another subject, if I may. I was listening to David Moore and Robert Wilonsky subbing for the Hardline Monday, and I believe they said they were going to have their own show on Wednesday nights at 7. I think that's what I heard.

And on the subject of the Hardline, Sighing Corby gave us fair warning on Friday that he was going to join his family at a resort for the weekend. I guess we will get to hear about another Corby trip.

And on the subject of Sighing Corby, he issued quite the proclamation last week in previewing the post-RG3 Baylor season: "They're about to find out how much they will that guy." Really?

  2. Damn.

"They're about to find out how much they will MISS that guy."

    Really?

  3. They don't call him the college football blowhard for nothin.

  4. I too was stopped down on Wilonsky and Moore yesterday eve. They read my tweets twice, hell I think I was the only one tweeting them. The one about the wifey that was wanting to take a nap, I told her to listen to the Ticket for five minutes...and it only took two minute for her to nod off! POW! And I also told them that they were a the very least better than Raceweek. I always dig Wilonsky but Moore was actually quite listenable. He's got a few bits of his own. I'll tune in for a Wednesday night show.

  5. Gagreed, Josh's broken disqus. I'm really looking forward to the Moore-Wilonsky show. Moore gets The Ticket like no other out-sourced help (from DMN for the Ranch Report) ever has. The only one close to him is the Dooce Man. He knows when to get into the game by his own initiative, and, more importantly, he knows how to let the game come to him. He also has a deep and what appears to be a Day 1, P1 historical knowledge of The Littlest of Ones. Couple that with Big Bob's mellifluous pipes and knowledge of all that is Dallas--past, present, and future (plans wise, that is)--and you have yourself a recipe for success.

Yeah Anon Ron, I'm right there with you on Sighing Corby. I'm really, really, really ready for him to move on and for Danny to take his place. I know it'll never happen, but I wish to hell that it would. As to Jr Miller: I think he and the Sturminator are by far the smartest hosts. Sorry, Gordo, you're in the middle tier. Hell, I put Rhyner in front of Gordo. Partial and superficial understanding of a subject you've read about and the subsequent filtering it through your rather narrow and shallow pseudo-Freudian worldview doesn't equate intelligence, much less knowledge.

  6. David Moore is knowledgeable and has a very Ticket-friendly sense of humor but his voice drives me crazy. Half the time he sounds like someone trying to do a Big Dick Hunter impersonation. Wilonsky is a good, though. I could listen to him meh things all day long.

  7. Oh why oh why does Corby -or any of these guys- feel the need to pontificate on politics? One of the prime reasons I and many others spend so much time listening to The Ticket rather than other types of talk-radio is that politics dominates the other stations. If I wanted to hear about politics (even when it's related to music) I'd switch over to one of those stations or flip on CNN, FOX, or MSNBC. And the thing is, it doesn't matter what side of the political aisle you or any of the hosts reside on, they ALWAYS speak from a position of blatant ignorance. It's no difference than it would be hearing Anderson Cooper talk about the NFL: he might have some inkling, or at the very least a highly subjective and probably ill-informed opinion, but he's definitely out of his depth. And that's what you get when the hosts get political on you. Yuck.

  8. As the Hardline discusses Rhyner's old band Felix, I thought I'd share a link where you can get some T-shirts related to them...

The one related to What's On Mike's Mind makes me giggle too.

  9. Wow, some red meat in the foregoing brief comments:

902: (Re: Craig/George comment.) Yeah. I have had precisely the same listening experience over the last eight years. It's on the list.

551: Also on the list: Not just Corby, but no host, not even my favorites, should ever discuss politics and should approach anything resembling "current events" with extraordinary caution.

Comments from prior post: MaSS. Yes, the metaphors are a bit forced, but I don't find them offensive. The show has got something and I still think Scot H is a candidate for graduation to weekdays should the need arise.

  10. Kicking myself for missing the Gordon/Dale show last evening. Can anyone review?

  11. WFAA does not have the whole show on their website, but they do have this:

    Dale interviews Fake Jerry:

  12. @Plainsman: I don't find the church metaphors offensive, I merely find them silly and amateurish. I too think Scot has potential to break through the "daytime host ceiling." If not at The Ticket, then somewhere else. My point is, I believe he's better than such banalities. I support the guy and his show. But that doesn't mean I find his program without some serious want. And he kindly posted that he appreciates constructive criticism; which makes me like and root for the guy that much more.

@Charlemagne: You're onto something there (Miller Man and Gordon analyses), pal.

@Anon 5:51 and Plainsman: "Absolutely you bitch[es]" (Greggo drop).

  13. OMG. Did anyone happen to catch any of the FAIL's 500 hour Cowboys pre game show marathon? Screams of grasping, gasping, and gaseousness.

  14. I just laughed out loud at the ridiculousness that is George DiGianni: "The dangers of putting others needs before your own...Saturday on the Train Station Fitness Show." He ought to have a job writing headlines for the National Inquirer or the the Weekly World News.

  15. They've come up with a clever idea over at RAGE. Every week they are going to play Brad Sham's call of certain Cowboy plays and then compare them to the call from the opposing team's radio announcer.

  16. Yeah, like when BaD does that.... oh, wait, I thought RaGE did something original.

  17. I saw the overall ratings for August over at the dfw radio-info site. The FAN .8, ESPN 2.0, and KTCK 2.7. I know these aren't the coveted 25-54 demo, and they're for the entire 24 hour-7 days a week time frame, but I do think it's interesting that ESPN has gained enough on The Ticket that it might soon be deemed a credible competitor. (Yes, I know they have Ranger broadcasts.) Perhaps their tweaking of the daytime hosts and schedules have begun to pay some dividends? I know I find myself listening to Ben and Skin more and more over Norm; I also turn on Coop and Nate Newton when BaD goes gameshow, gay-not gay, or television talk on me. Sometimes the discussion Coop and Newt are having is good enough to make me forget to switch back to BaD.

  18. Nothing matters except M 25-54 for sports radio.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Still not that credible, especially in these, the Men 25-54 ratings:
M-F 6a-7p, Ticket has a 7.7, ESPN has a 3.1 and Fan has a 1.9. So add both together and they're still well short of the ticket #'s.
    M-F 6a-Mid, The tick has a 7.0, ESPN a 3.4 and fan a 1.9. Again, they don't together equal 1310's ratings.
    M-Su 6a-Mid, Ticket has a 5.7, Espn a 3.3 and Fan a 1.8

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry, that Fan M-f 6a-Mid should be a 2.1

And here's how I think you should interpret those numbers:
The Ticket dominates in the weekday hours when the vast (and I mean VAST) majority of radio listening happens. As you expand the days or dayparts, ESPN does a little better (in other words, Rangers games look to be worth .2 to .3 in the overall ratings. BFD. And pre-season football doesn't help the fan at all.

  21. Thanks for posting the ratings info. Really, really interesting.

Of course, we haven't yet seen the effect of RaGE's trailblazing running-falling-down-crashing-in-to-one-another-on-a-football-field-pink-Richie commercial.

Has anyone seen that commercial run again?

  22. Today is Gloria Gaynor's birthday, so The Junes got to issue the "full or half" line again today. It was a glorious week in broadcasting history.

  23. Haven't seen the RaGE ad in over a week. I sent a Youtube link of it to a buddy of mine who is a P1Day1 now living in Minneapolis (still listens everyday, all day via the miracle of the stream). His response: "Are they now trying to suck more?"

The short of it is, it might be with good reason that neither you nor I have seen the ad in over a week.

  24. I like to imagine that Richie Whitt has to utter the word "Greggo" at least once every 108 seconds, or else a tiny bomb will go off in his head.

  25. 1029: This site noticed this way back in the beginning of RaGE and remarked on it, although I believe I estimated the interval between "Greggo" references as somewhat narrower. It gives RaGE a very weird sound.
