Three Quick Hits to Get Another Thread Going

(1) I'm not the biggest fan of the more juvenile aspects of The Ticket, but I have to confess (of course) that the Hardline's new "Throw Down Your Anus" challenge had me larfing mightily in the old Conestoga yesterday on the way home.  The guy ("Ted") who was talking to his girlfriend/wife about giving medicine to the cat, and her absolute I'm-not-having-any-of-your-nonsense responses while putting away groceries (and knocking down a shelf in the process) -- ya know, one likes to think one is a sophisticated consumer of highbrow humor, but Ted (who is apparently a law student) and his anus talk and w/g's responses about had me driving off the road.

(2) We have a pretty amazing population of Confessors here.  All of the people signing themselves "not" someone triad of obscure philosophers or fictional characters  .  .  .  I don't really even care if the writer had to look those people up or whether they knew who they were to begin with.  I'm getting a nice education just looking them up.

(3) Listen up, pilgrims:  You got a point to make, make it.  I'm reading along in some of these comments, and the comment is fine, well-put, legit, and then, in the last sentence, the author seems to feel the need to take a shot at another commenter's intelligence, motives, identity, whatever.

As Bob Newhart said:  Stop it.

  1. Minor ironic observation - Dick Hicks is getting more air time than the Orphanage.

  2. I think the 3rd quick hit is partially directed at me. Sometimes ya gotta try to end with a bang Pman, c'mon. ;-)

  3. No, gunther, it wasn't directed at you. I had to take down a half-dozen or so nastygrams.

It's like the broken-window theory of crime that Giuilani held while mayor of New York. One broken window leads to another and if no one takes care of it, the vicinity looks rundown, then gets rundown and is abandoned, and crime flourishes.

One guy takes a shot, then it won't do but that the guy being shot has to take a shot, and it's all so annoying to read AND SO DAMNED UNORIGINAL. And pretty soon, crime flourishes.

You wouldn't want MTC to become like that now, would you? Something terrible might happen to it.

Besides, I understand Grubes Is My Leader is open for business over on Facebook.

  4. 1) I haven't had a chance to listen the the little one this week but have got all podcasts downloaded so I haven't had a chance to the that latest segment. So, the anus is on me to catch up.

    2) For the most part, we do have a good group of posters here at MTC. I give a lot of credit to Plainsman for keeping MTC ice and tidy.

    3) Gagreed!

And he's made CDS a relic that I long for.

  6. Listening to The Hardline talk about Romo is pretty disgusting. So, he's the toughest player to ever play in the NFL? Give me a break.

Pman, it's the internet. We get our beer muscles up and it is easy to start a flame war.
I learnt a few things today.

Over at HornsFans, which until recently I was unaware of entirely, they have posted a farewell of sorts. There was a day when it was a lively and vibrant board with regular posters and slammed servers. There was even an offer of improving the servers and programming. It was declined. In fact the very people who could help the board improve itself were banned for silly reasons. It became a board of fewer and fewer voices after the coming of Shaggybevo. One of the proprietors of the site told someone that actually knew how to do it, "go start your own board". So he did. The poaching and migration began. Soon it devolved into an echo chamber of fewer and fewer voices. Dissent was squelched. Negative comments were deleted and users banned. This is best illustrated by a game day post that had all of 10 posts. A game day thread on the shag might fly forty or fifty posts on an interception, theirs or ours. Over moderation can kill a board. It drives away the content, ie the users and the commenters.

Understand Pman that is not directed at you. I have no problem with you running your place how you see fit. If a sense of decorum and some board norms here and there are what you deem necessary I am fine with that. The only deletions I can recall are ones directed user on user or speculation/posts about the host's personal lives. I'm just as guilty as anybody for being confrontational. It is a tough balance to keep the peace without running off the regulars.

  8. George was really sucking up to Jerry this morning:

"Half of what he says is either crazy or B.S."

Not entirely true. He deletes criticism of his writing and the way he handles topics all the time. It's the one thing that is an instant delete. Trust me, I know...

  10. So they finally added a Stop button to the SportsDay Talk app. This is progress, I guess. The stream still cuts out constantly though. I don't know if that's an issue with the app or with the Ticket's stream, I guess I should try to use TuneIn more to find out. I tried listening to the Musers this morning and the stream cut out at least a half-dozen times in the first 10 minutes. So I got frustrated and switched to local radio.

  11. TuneIn finally added a forward button to go with it's rewind button. I can't remember the last time it buffered on me. Just wanted to put my 2 cents on why I think it's the better streaming app.

  12. T4 did they ever get Tune-in to work on Android? I have tried every work around the Unticket has to offer and nothing has worked so far. The SportsDay app stops at random times when I get a text, get a FB message or do other things online. So it has been IFart for me. It sucks, but at least I have radio on the phone.

@Anon153. That kinda falls into the category of 'another poster'. We can kick TC, Corby and the rest of them in the balls any old time but he draws the line at circular firing squads.
