A Visit to Guy's Night Out, Featuring Conner Crisp

I stopped by Rock 101 Little Elm to sample a bit of Guy's Night Out.   Was able to stay for about 45 minutes, hour.

First, we need to clear something up.

Rock 101 Little Elm is the name of the venue.

But it is not in Little Elm.

It is east of FM 423/Main Street, although just east -- and that's Frisco, despite the trademark.  If you would like confirmation of this, see The Rock 101 Little Elm Website and scroll down to check out the address.

GNO was pretty cool, I thought.  Fun venue, loved the old 70's and 80's music videos running on the screens, some video trivia all but two contestants were ignoring, grub looked good.  Great crowd.

Mike, Corby, and George discuss American Sniper

Hosts who weren't broadcasting mingled with the crowd, happy to be chatting with the P1s.  Never seen them otherwise.

Dan looked somehow healthier than I've seen him at other venues in the past.  Perhaps it was the purple lighting.  Corby looked stout, but I think it was probably just his TCU hoodie.

Unlike some other GNOs, if you were paying sufficient attention and situated yourself strategically, you could hear most of what was going on in the show.

During the ads, one of the promo ladies ran a mini-trivia contest on the stage between two attendees for valuable prizes.  I signed up for a drawing I was assured would take place in ten minutes, but did not.  I had to leave a half-hour or so later, so I don't know if I won or not.  Or what I would have won if I'd have won.  It was a little noisy.

An early round table.
On my way out, I had a chinwag with a chap at the Ticket promo table.  The promo people had apparently dug deep, deep into the promo closet, because, other than some forlorn t-shirts, the only premiums they were offering were Craig Miller trading cards.  No one else's -- just Craig's.  They were very aged.  They featured Craig with dark hair and, on the reverse side, listed his nicknames as "Junior" and -- care to guess? -- "Professor."  His show is identified as "Dunham & Miller" -- no mention of The Musers, no mention of Gordon.  (I didn't see Gordon there, but he may have shown up later; I didn't get to hear a lot of the show after I left.)

Anyway, the promo intern was a pleasant guy, enthusiastic, eager to promote the station.  Hopeful of a shot at JV status and perhaps the big time some day.  I got his name, which is featured in the title of this post, and told him to check in.

Cat and Promo Director, keep an eye on this up-and-comer.

  1. Professor is from his days working for the Rangers pregame show. A sort of man in the crowd, think Knoxie, sort of gig.

Interesting post. It shows how fat/slack the station has become. The promo dept. ought to have all sorts of shirts, bumper stickers, and crap at the ready. They don't. They haven't bee, couldn't be, bothered to do as such in years now. Too high on the hog, easy days ratings dominance. Cowboys or not, those easy days appear to finally be at an end. They're going to have to do a little work to keep dominating.

I'm not sure if Gordon was there. I didn't hear him on any round table. Then again, I didn't get to listen to every one of them.

The fact that the hosts were mingling, seemed engaged, and kept going on about the crowd seems to say that there has been either a CTO/Cat edict or at least a conscious effort on the hosts' part to reengage the P1--specially those P1s who go to the trouble to come out and see them. That hasn't been the case in a very very very very long time. Quite the opposite, indeed.

Maybe, just maybe, these past few months of seeing some chinks in the ratings armor, combined with what seems like a growing vocal faction of disgruntled listeners, have at least in some way kicked the station's collective ass into gear....or at least out of neutral? Let's hope so.

  2. Dang PMan. I missed you. I was fortunate to arrive early and sat at a table with Norm for about 40 minutes chatting. He had me pull up Mary's website and told us all about some of their travels and her photography.

    Good times

  3. Musers said this morning that Gordo was out with the flu last night.

    ReplyDelete
  4. They said during one of the roundtables that Gordon was sick and had tested positive for the flu. He was at home trying to get better so he could travel next week.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why did George say that KTCK is their "former" call letters?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Gordo was out with flu-like symptoms. Out today too--I guess they're wanting him to rest to make sure he can make the Super Bowl (er, I mean, the "Big Game") trip.

  7. bayern munich -- My experience is that at any public Ticket thing like TicketStock or Guy's Night Out, hosts who are not broadcasting or preparing between segments are very accessible and friendly to the attending P1. I'd be surprised if last night's hostly mingling had anything to do with trembling ratings.

I'm trying to remember if I've even heard any stories about a P1 getting big-timed by a host -- again, a host who is not broadcasting or prepping in between segments. Don't recall offhand, but perhaps b.m. has had a different experience.

  8. Any chance we can get a bit started to refer to the Junes only as Craig Miller USA?

    BTW, where's Gordo?

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's quite a story....tell it again.

E-brake: Anytime someone can get Sturm to stop talking you're a winner in my book. Well done Dan and Donnie.

Hearing Cat rip Peyton Manning is brilliant. He's the only person I've heard rip Peyton. Watching games that he is QB are a beating.

It is amazing that there were complaints the epic ass whipping song of this year hadn't appeared. What the H? Are you a masochist? Or maybe a sadist? Both? You want to have the spike to the head and inflict it upon others? You are one sick human being.

And it is bro-country. Let the beatings commence.

I thought we might escape this year. Twas not to be.

Let me PRE-say that your post has a trolling nature, but I'll respond anyway.

"Interesting post. It shows how fat/slack the station has become. The promo dept. ought to have all sorts of shirts, bumper stickers, and crap at the ready. They don't."

This is SOP for The Ticket. I've been listening for 7-8 years now, and I've been to numerous remotes and such. They never have ever had promotional materials. No. No, no, no no, never, never, never, never, no. And in fact, they (the hosts) always complain about it. The only reason I have the Ticket shwag I have is due to persistence, the field I work in, and knowing some guys on the inside (both my t-shirts came from sitting in a car trunk, where they had been forgotten).

So, no dice when you equate this with being "the end."

"The fact that the hosts were mingling, seemed engaged, and kept going on about the crowd seems to say that there has been either a CTO/Cat edict or at least a conscious effort on the hosts' part to reengage the P1--specially those P1s who go to the trouble to come out and see them. That hasn't been the case in a very very very very long time. Quite the opposite, indeed."

Now THIS I agree with wholeheartedly.

The complaint was that it seemed the gang is getting so complacent they couldn't even be bothered to make a song this year (and give us something to bitch about).

The Dirty P1 does not like complacency and they do not like to be taken for granted.

As someone who spent over a year in promotions the Hosts have ZERO to do with what merchandise we are giving out.

  17. Conner Crisp - If you're reading this and want some free advice on how to succeed in radio, listen to TC and do everything exactly the opposite. Best of luck pal.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So is the Ticker Tease demise directly attributable to the inability of a certain mid-day Tickerman to form coherent words for said tease? Plainsman reports; you decide!

    ReplyDelete
  19. No more Ticker Teases starting Monday...ESPN & TheFan strike again! (they are also responsible for the demise of Race Week & moving Alexis to Seattle.

Here's a HSO: TC ain't that bad. He's essentially the BaDD radio whipping boy, much like Gribble was. If he would just drop the smug attitude and realize he has a lot more to gain by making fun of himself..I think he could actually contribute with some good bits. That's probably the major obstacle though..to not take everything so seriously.
(In fact, Jake might be the only 'in show JV' that'll take a chance with a bit).

I had rather have complacent and lazy ticketstock promos and give us a dose of the devil we have already had. Or better yet none at all! I know, crazy dreaming.

As if the Dirty P1 needed an excuse to bitch. Ha. Tell me another.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Ticketstock/Summer Bash promo is a HUGE beating for the all day P1. We are subjected to it much more than a host who a) takes his headphones off during breaks and b) doesn't necessarily listen to anything more than his own show.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No doubt the ticker tease is RIP thanks to TC. Something else he has ruined for the P1. Amazing. I still think he has pics of Cat with farms animals or something. Only way he can keep his job.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd be all for getting rid of the Ticker all together or reducing it to once per hour. It's just a rehash of the same news all day and is a huge beating.

Also the added benefit of having TC on air less.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can't imagine T.C. has anything to do with the demise of the Ticker Tease.

More likely, it's being shelved to tighten up what is already a way-too-long commercial break that inspires listeners to flirt with other stations. The Tease has the effect of making a long commercial break seem like two long commercial breaks. I welcome its departure.

    ReplyDelete
  26. TC had nothing to do with the change.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @12:11

Preach. TC might not be the sole reason for this, but I'm sure it was at least a factor in considering the decision.

  28. Nobody has said howdy to Cray Trey.

well hey man, thanks for stopping by and shooting down rumors.
    Carry on.

if you are in fact the one and only Tray de Cray. We do have the occasional Jer and KT sightings. I saw on the Shag that ktfuntweets got negged into Bolivia via the recruiting thread. Shame. He should have built up some cred somewhere else before diving into that mosh pit.

  29. I rejoice over the demise of the Ticker teases....now just eliminate Tickers all together and I'll streak down the quad and into the gymnasium. Who needs Tickers these days???? I see their place 15 years ago before everyone had smart phones and such easy access to any and all sports information.

If I want to know check the Mavs score and see who the leading scorer was, I'm not waiting till a 12:20 ticker to tell me that. It was a great idea 15-20 years ago, but now it's a time waste and needs to be put out to pasture.

Forget Tickers and here's another HSO, forget traffic. Eliminate those two and give me 3 extra minutes of a segment. I've got an app for sports scores and traffic, I'll continue to flip around until I hear real content.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 2 things:

1: I've never understood the people who complain about having to listen to the Ticketstock song so much. Why is anyone listening to commercials? As soon as the hosts go to break, I am out. I either take off my headphones if I'm at work or I punch it to another station if I am in my car.

2: Getting rid of the ticker tease is a small step in the right direction. I hope to one day see no ticker at all or 1 every hour or so. There is absolutely no need for the ticker anymore. It rarely gives you anything noteworthy and everything said in them can be looked up on your own. It's 2015 now, not 1994. It would also make the segments longer and put the people you actually want to listen to on longer. I tuned into the fan a few mornings ago, and they didn't do fan flashes before the segments I was listening to. (Go back and listen to Danny's first ticker on WED. He does a great job in explaining why the ticker needs to go away)

For the sake of argument, I'll agree that the ticket stock sing is a beating for the all day p-1. But how many all day p-1s do you think there are versus 'casual' fans who don't listen all day?
I'll give you a hint , with Neilsen ppm technology they have a real good idea of how many listen for how long.
And the same idea goes for mudic stations, if you're sick of Jeff k spinning freebird again, maybe you listen way more than average. Every station, of every sort is trying to find
that sweet spot. Play the hits often enough to keep the casual fan around, but enough deep cuts (whether obdeck g not g, etc) to keep the heavy user around.
And you guys crack me up, you complain that there's not a tstock song, complain that there is one, especially one that's going to be such a kick in the balls to the music purist hardliners. Makes me sports giggle.

  35. @Norm's unmentionables

Not a drop yet. Was serious. I had rather hear Jake rapping Grandpa style again.

It doesn't matter, like somebody said already I am probably punched out by then anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1. I still have a set of the trading cards in a box somewhere for some reason. They're going to be worth thousands, consequently millions one day.

    2. I don't mind the Ticketstock songs. In fact, I kind of enjoy them. I punch out during commercials so I only hear a few seconds of them so they never get to the point where they grate on me. I hear the debut of it, I catch bits and pieces here and there, and every once in a blue moon I'll stick with it all the way through when a break starts, but other than that, I don't give it a chance to beat me.

    3. Hooray to losing the Ticker tease. Let's go ahead and get rid of the Tickers and traffic while we're at it like 1:15 suggests. I don't understand the benefit of either of those.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So now The Fail's morning show is doing fake Michael Irvin.

These asshats have no shame. No shame.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow, I didn't mean to stir the pot up.

I'll get to that in a minute.

First: If you've heard DiGianni's latest promo and put it together with So Anonymous's claim about weekend cross talk AND with the demise of the Ticker tease, well, you get a sense of where Cat is going with things. (DiGianni's show now starts and ends 15 minutes earlier.)

Second: I think the TC stuff is getting completely out of control. It has been for a long while now. Yet even with moderation, it seems like over half to nearly 2/3rds of the comments are TC-related and negative.

    @Pman
I've been going to remotes, postgame shows (used to go to see the original Rhynes/Greggo Diamond Talk after Ranger games in the early days), GnOs, Charity Challenges and their offspring, and the occasional Ticketstock since year 1. As the year's have gone by, the guys have been noticeably more remote (no pun intended). Sometimes more than others. A lot of what you see isn't so much as them preparing, it's more of them f'n around on the internet and looking busy. Though to be fair there is some preparation going on. I'm glad this GnO was a good one. I couldn't make it out.

    @907am
I'm not a troll, and though I'm not trying to scoreboard you, I've been listening since the loop was being played. You actually make my point when you say there's never been anything for the last 7-8 years promo wise. It's exactly what I was saying. So I'm not sure I get you. Neither did I claim the end is nigh. I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. I said the easy days of, since you yourself put a timeline to it, the last 7-8 years (it's been more, actually) of everything being easy days looks to over. Hence the new focus on time = content management.

    @Trey Mitchell
With all due respect to you (it's cool that you read MTC and commented, by the way), I neither said that nor do I think it. Of course the hosts have nothing to do with promo items. I was making a statement about the station in general and the way it's been run over the past decade--i.e., the lack of attention to the small things that eventually add up. The things that seem not to matter when it's easy days, but then make a difference when you have actual competition, when you see their t's and bumper stickers, and not yours--like the way it used to be back in your "hungry" days.

Count me as one who finds the Ticketstock songs both a beating AND yet still likes the fact that they are made. I do think this year's was a total give up, though. Zero creativity, thrown together in a slap dash way.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @bm (giggle)

So what does that tell you about TC?

    ReplyDelete
  40. So weekend shows are getting cut short and mixes eliminated for "Replay Rotation from Fahy's Audio Vault of Fun". Which means playing various clips from the past week.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @bayern:

"Second: I think the TC stuff is getting completely out of control. It has been for a long while now. Yet even with moderation, it seems like over half to nearly 2/3rds of the comments are TC-related and negative."

So, even recognizing this overwhelming sentiment, you choose to believe the majority is simply wrong, rather than consider and/or accept the fact that there MIGHT just be something to these complaints? That is that, TC 1) has worn out his P1 welcome, 2) is a lousy broadcaster, and 3) acts like a big jerk.

"I'm not a troll, and though I'm not trying to scoreboard you,"

You really seem to be working hard to scoreboard...

"I've been going to remotes, postgame shows (used to go to see the original Rhynes/Greggo Diamond Talk after Ranger games in the early days), GnOs, Charity Challenges and their offspring, and the occasional Ticketstock since year 1"

Unnecessary, bro. That's the definition of "scoreboarding."

Regarding your comment to Trey: no one would deny that the station/Cumulus doesn't GAF. What we discuss here is the fact that the hosts don't GAF. Different things. The first is SOP. The second is not. Glad to clear that up for you. Sorry if some misunderstood your comment.

"Count me as one who finds the Ticketstock songs both a beating AND yet still likes the fact that they are made. I do think this year's was a total give up, though. Zero creativity, thrown together in a slap dash way."

Agree with everything you say here. I was bummed when I feared they weren't making one this year - just so I could be annoyed. Being annoyed is part of being a P1.

In fact, I agree with most of what you say. But the scoreboarding has to stop. And your TC apologizing is off-base. You may like him, but it's flat-out wrong to assume those of us who do not are disingenuous, or just plain stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good job, Cat. Replaying old segments most listeners have already heard or ignored instead of live content will definitely right the ship. Why not just replay Ladies Be Trippin' segments while you're at it.

I've never heard one person say they don't like the mix between shows. This makes absolutely no sense at all.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not sure why a "best of" cut is more desirable than cross talk.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The elimination of mixes on weekends sucks so far. The orphanage was pretty nonplussed about it.

  45. @1152pm
It tells me that either there's a vocal minority of what appears to be a few commenters who make the same comment every time TC speaks. It also tells me that there are those who frequent this site that are obsessed with TC. If TC was so gawd awful, of zero value, he would have been let go by now--no matter how much he's liked by Bob and Dan or whomever. What do I think of TC? Not much. He lost me when he half-assed then basically p'd out of the green man body suit bet. Still, the constant "Look, TC mispronounced 'hermeneutics,' what an idiot! How does he have a job?" type of comments have gotten out of hand, IMO. Obviously Pman feels differently, else he'd stop letting them through moderation.

Oh yeah, "bm." That IS a giggle! Nice one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @1045am
If telling the truth in order to give some background info so what I have to say MIGHT have SOME weight to it is "score boarding." then I guess I'm guilty as charged. Fine. I could care less.

As regards TC, please see my 1246pm comment. But also, I see nowhere in any of my comments where I laud, even in the faintest of ways, TC. I'm not a good writer, but I don't think what I'm saying and how I'm saying it is somehow unclear. Unless, that is, some people are unable to read comments (not just mine, but any) without a predisposed attack mindset. I honestly don't get it. Same goes with a few others things you said, but there's no point in going down that road. At least not for me. It's rather boring.

I love talking Ticket. Not just the hosts, but the whole shebang. From the JV to the signal to the stream to the CTO to THL, all of it. I don't really care to have pissing matches. Over the years, I've seen too many great contributors to this site either leave entirely or back way off because of others who can't bear it that someone has a different opinion than their own and feel the need to go after everything that is said--usually ending up in an ad hominem. It's kind of like what I see going on here vis-a-vis TC. Just a preemptive measure here (one that probably won't have any bearing on some who are hell bent on doing what they do): Per my previous comment, I'm not a TC supporter.

1045am, I'm not saying that you are one of these people. But the "bros" and the accusations and such do seem to suggest some antagonistic intentions. Anyways, take care.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I just don't understand why cat would make the decision to cancel mixes and insert weekly clips. It's Saturday afternoon, the only folk listening are more than likely p1's anyway. Stuff we've heard before. Sorely disappointing. A real head scratcher.

  50. My hope is that these changes to the weekend programming aren't in fact a proving ground for the weekday. Something that came down from on high, like the Dickey's If you don't think the Dickey's/Cumulus wouldn't order such a thing, and if you don't think they wouldn't apply it to weekday programming, you're woefully wrong. They have utterly destroyed long time, cutting edge, money making machines. Please see SF's KFSO (whether you like that sort of radio isn't the issue here).

Man I hope that that's not what's brewing on the horizon. But I gotta say that it smells of it.

    Hardly "butt holding" worthy.

According to McDowell's Twitter, he forgot his ticket. Huh? I haven't flown anywhere in the past few years that required me to be holding a ticket. I check in at the counter and get a boarding pass. Tickets are electronic now.

So, what's the real reason? Maybe the real reason is worth grabbing gluteus about.

Probably not though - It's just Corby being a loveable ol' dumbass. Hardy-har-har. Look at me everyone!! I'm not an attention whore! No way!

  62. @The Gerry Todd Show:
To be honest, I really don't listen to the station on weekdays very much. Notably, I did listen to White Elephant Day and Thursday's GNO. I have changed my early morning wake-up to listen to The Musers while at the gym, but the rest of the day, I may listen to 30 minutes to an hour. I do listen to The Orphanage on Saturdays. All in all, I have too many podcasts to listen to or other live radio, specifically Dan LeBatard in the afternoon.

Yes, I am one of those who stopped on BaD Radio because of two people: Computer as well as TC, so it is hard for me to comment on the rest of the shows. I came to the conclusion that I get my sports news well before tickers and hearing a story via Deadspin/The Big Lead/Awful Announcing on a Thursday after I read it on Monday doesn't cut it for me. It is hard for me to get excited for Corby and Gordon to “go wireless” this week and interview the same women multiple times.

Secondly, KSFO really is not the Bay Area station one needs to look at to see the Atlanta/Cumulus/Dickey influence, its on the AM dial in all-talk, KGO. Especially when they have a host themselves who will turn 70 this year but has been off the air for an extended vacation since January 8. He is in their equivalent of Norm's time slot too.

Now something which also recently occurred to Cumulus SF was that the sports station talent voted to go union.
    http://variety.com/2014/artisans/news/sag-aftra-unionizes-knbr-san-francisco-1201350104/

I wonder if some of the JV who are full time are looking into that as well.

  63. @11:34

I love that your panties are so wadded, but I know for a fact you're wrong. I am indeed one of the people who complains about TC. I also happen to know who another is. And there is at least one more (though I suspect several more).

But go ahead and rage til your heart is content and your sports panties unwad at this perceived injustice upon the world.

  64. There is a difference between bitching and sharing amusing stories.

None of the guys are bitching about being at the Super Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  65. No they do gripe about being at the Super Bowl. They gripe about the travel. They complain about standing in line for media credentials. They complain about the food. They complain about the hotel. They complain about the service they receive

Stories aren't amusing. It's the same tired act they've had for 21 years.

  66. Does anyone ever notice that Danny gets in a really bad mood when the entire batch of hosts are away on a trip and he's stuck back home? Saying that, I would much rather see Danny get to go with them (he's basically a third host anyway) because it makes for better stories when they tell them.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anyone missing the Ticker teases? In truth, it's as if they never existed. Glad to see that, thus far, the mixes between shows haven't been nixed. I to think it's interesting that there is a conscious effort (a directive?) for the hosts to visit each others shows, a la the old days.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I have to wonder if Cat and Co. are trying to get back to that halcyon day magic (?).

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for the kind words, gunther. I tend to think along the same lines where the TC stuff is concerned, as well. Though I'm trying to give-and still giving-the benefit of the doubt.

SB week has gotten off to a solid start. Loved Bob on with D&M and Joonz with BaD. Reminds me of the way things once were. In truth, I forgot about the Ticker teases being given the heave ho. Now that they're gone...yeah, they were unnecessary and took away from show content.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It makes me so happy to hear Corby missing flights and not able to check into his hotel room because he can't get the concept of paying attention to detail. He's proved this is the past multiple times by forgetting his wallet at remotes, etc.

  70. Danny's "edgier" version of the bro-country ticketstock song is so funny I think I pissed myself a tiny bit listening to it. The guy's bathroom humor-lyrical mastery cannot be learned. He's like the Eminem of disgusting-std-symptom-
    misogynist-bro-country.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why are we seeing the back of some guy's head on the webcam? So far the webcam has been essentially useless.

  72. Danny's "edgier" ticketstock song that go turned down by corporate. Funniest thing on The Ticket in years.

I haven't laughed that hard at a Ticket bit in a long, long time. Genius.

  74. Hey, it's Conner Crisp here. I just wanted to thank all the P1s for coming out to Guy's Night Out and for the continued dedication to The Ticket! To the Plainsman, thank you very much for the kind words! As the Plainsman mentioned, my goal is to one day be on air for America's Favorite Station. I hope to see many of you out at Ticketstock February 20 & 21 at the Irving Convention Center. Stay Hard!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Stay hard, Conner!

Boy howdy, this Guy Sports bit is killing it!!!! It's also been a cavalcade of shots at where The Ticket is going due to reactions to ratings. Hoo boy!

  76. Methinks the Gordo wireless segment with Guy Sportts (or now Sportz, I suppose) is quite revealing as to the impetus behind recent changes (ixnay on Saturday cross-talk, death to Ticker Teases, and clock-over-content). Passive-aggressive Musers are always fun.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I heard Danny's version of the Ticketstock promo on air this morning, so I guess they'll be mixing it in. Good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Didn't take long for The Junes to complain about their hotel. Typical.

Guy Sports wasn't funny. Another example of Gordo losing his edge.

Always fun to hear noted NFL blowhard Peter King making excuses for the NFL.

Isn't it funny that Roger Goodell couldn't obtain the Ray Rice video but they've already recovered video of a low level locker room attendant handling the footballs? What a joke.

    Stay hard.

  79. "Do you mind if I facetime your sister" is now a line I will include into everyday conversation

    ReplyDelete
  80. So, during one of the Musers patented eternal commercial breaks this morning, I switched over to 105.3. There I found East Coast Douche #1 doing a wireless interview with Mad Dog. The interesting part was East Coast Douche #2 was feeding him questions. "Ask him this! Oh wait, ask him that!" Doesn't that format sound familiar?

The best part is, they ended the interview with a gunshot sound effect.

It's almost like I've heard this somewhere before.... so familiar....

  81. "No they do gripe about being at the Super Bowl. They gripe about the travel. They complain about standing in line for media credentials. They complain about the food. They complain about the hotel. They complain about the service they receive"

The funny thing is, they show up hours late and gripe about not being able to park and get their credentials. Then Corby again fails to live up to the basic standards of being an adult and he gripes about missing his flight.

It's almost like they expect to be able to do whatever they want without repercussions. Cat's job might be harder than I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm new to this site, but I want to assure some commenters on this thread, I am a different person and I LOATHE TC. Been a P1 for since high school, and he is the worst on air personality I've heard. I try and listen as much as possible, just not much when I know TC will be on.

    Loved Danny's ticket song yesterday!!!

Really cool site and I look forward to reading int he future!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sounds like someone didn't listen to the segment. Corby did not gripe about missing his flight. He took responsibility for missing it.

    ReplyDelete
  84. TC sucks, TC is great. Who cares. Absolutely boring. Regonk, TC, Greggo, all old hat, all past due. Who cares.

Ditto to the anon about Corby's flight. The guy owned up to it being totally his fault, embarrassing, and felt bad about it. But ya, don't let that stop those with an agenda who keep posting the same old crap comments.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Here's an HSO for more content change. I'd love to see the time waste WTDS dropped and have Mike's Mind start about 3:05 getting you know... the full 3-7 Hardline as the promo always allude to.

    ReplyDelete
  86. "He took responsibility for missing it."

ONLY after Cat and Mike both nailed him on it. Then he went back to complaining. If they hadn't expressley said "this was your fault," he wouldn't have said anything. Corby doesn't have to play by the same rules as the dirty P1.

    ReplyDelete
  87. @1618

I don't think WTDS is going anywhere anytime soon.

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/why-today-doesnt-suck/id316330144

Who's guilty of listening to them back-to-back on long road trips? This guy!

    ReplyDelete
  88. @deezy
I'm also a fan of the podcast as my nightly ritual is waiting until 9 pm when that days podcast are released. I finally checked out a weekly BaD recap and actually enjoyed it. I was over 2 hours with no commercials with some Trey Mitchell segueing into each new segment.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Basically deezy you have one dude with an h on for TC who can't stop making the same comment over again and another dude who works for the FAIL who keeps making the same I can't believe Corby or fill in the blank host or segment is so atrocious and such a buzz kill.

    Blah blah blah.

Just let 'em piss and moan. As long as Plainsman allows it, we just gotta pretend it ain't there and go about our biz.

    Koo koo ka choo.

  90. Nothing confuses me more than the P1 who hates Why Today Doesn't Suck.

    WTDS IS the Ticket.

    The Ticket IS WTDS.

  91. My guess is that the ads bookending WTDS cost a little more than the ads bookending Mike's Mind.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Put me down as someone who is enjoying the no Ticket Teasers. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but it now "seems" as if the commercials are a little shorter. I haven't timed it (nor will I), but it seems that way to me.

As far as TC goes, I enjoy his input on BADD radio. Like most on-air personalities who are not the Varsity, he may try too hard sometimes to get a point in, but I can't blame anyone for that. Most of the time he adds something to the conversation, or at least, doesn't take away from it.

As we see the Ticket go more and more to choosing out the best clips and replaying those at the end of the day/weekend, and to putting their best stuff on the podcast, how about something similar here. At the end of the day, eliminating all the standard, tired-head anon's who continually beat their dead horses (TC sucks, Corby sucks, etc.) and just leaving the good comments/critiques for us to read. While I know this could never happen, it sure seems like a good idea to me.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Seriously, how can you be a P1 and not love WTDS?

  94. "Nothing confuses me more than the P1 who hates Why Today Doesn't Suck.

OK, let's start with yours Brad. That's your point, right? You want the site YOUR way, so let's eliminate those who don't meet your standards.

    Bless you, kind Oligarch!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I appreciate the effort Corby puts into his bits during Cowboys camp and Super Bowl week, but in the end it just shows that these guys are programmed to give specific responses to specific key words and they really have no idea what he is saying to them.

Which I guess is one of the points of the bits.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Why the hell are the guys that bring Norm his food just hanging around for multiple segments with the headphones on?? Very strange..a tad bit creepy..

    ReplyDelete
  99. I love The Ticket and especially BaD Radio, but I think they seriously overrate how much we care about Kid from Kid 'n Play.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Why does TC sound like he's trying to suppress a burp during every Ticker?

Also, this Kid story Donnie is telling is amazing. Pretty embarrassing for Mr. Reid, though.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Man, Dan puts that lunch away fast in the breaks.

    ReplyDelete
  102. BAD Radio overrates how much we care about most of their bits and inside jokes. Kid was fun back in the late 80s and early 90s.

Today in the "hosts b_itching about a free trip to the Super Bowl" department Junes griped about the food at the media party. These guys are SO out of touch with the common man. Probably why they are losing listeners.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Agree. WTDS is awful. It's noise polution. Way too much Jake. Only redeeming quality is that Ty Walker Chicken steps in and TC leaves.

More Mike killing the 1st 2 segments would be good.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Just listened to the story of Corby missing the flight. Just confirms what we all already knew....he's an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Who else caught the Ticket references on Justified last night???

    Seabass and 'what about eggs'

    ReplyDelete
  106. "Man, Dan puts that lunch away fast in the breaks."

There's nothing in it but celery and dashed hopes.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Eggs,

The catering folks are friends of Norm in Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I'm going to defend the Junes. He wasn't complaining about the food so much as comparing it to other media days. They had just done a segment recounting where all the Superbowls had been for the last 20-plua years.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The HL / IG is with Kid was pretty funny last night... Tales of Kobe, anus talk and Cumulus cheapness jokes...
