Hockey Fan Special

We don't get into puck coverage much here on My Ticket Confession.

I'd like to hear from BaD and hockey fans with reports and reactions to BaD's field trip accompanying the Stars.  I haven't been able to tune in.

Are you liking the BaD content?

Is it enjoyable for non-hockey fans?

In general, do the various shows take good advantage of the occasional field trip with a team, or to attend a particular game or series of games (e.g., Musers to the Rangers playoffs in San Francisco)?

  1. Enjoying the Baseball Roundtable on the Muser showgram. In general, I think The Ticket would benefit from more hard sports news reporting -- not Tickers, but actual news gathering.

Not holding my breath; that's expensive. But getting the print guys on for a chat -- good stuff.

  2. ATTENTION Ticket copywriters:

    "Ragonking" is not a verb.

It is either a gerund or a present participle.

  3. Don't listen to BaD Radio so couldn't tell you. Thanks to the addition of 2 new members that shall remain nameless have led to me listening to Bad Radio less and less.

My guess the Stars are struggling thanks to the BaD Radio curse.

Junes should be a TX Radio Hall of Famer based solely on Scattershooting and Top 5 Bottom 5. 2 of my favorite segments.

I want to punch Chris Chris in the head.

  4. The audio BaD played from their night at MSG was incredible. Must-listen stuff.

  5. Is the Junes up to something tonight? Unless I missed the context, he mentioned several times that there was no Stars game on the station tonight at 7.

And then he just tweeted this:

  6. I've very much enjoyed the extra focus on the Stars from BaDD. The extra time for interviews was great ( and the "uproar" from the Benn/Seguin is just nonsense..though it have awoken SportsBullySturm!)

Just like Super Bowl Week & Training Camp..I believe a road trip makes for good radio. The weather didn't really allow them to get out&about too much, but the Over Excited Out Of Town Fan bit was a solid bit

  7. Junior and George offered some cryptic commentary this morning at before the 8:40 bit:

Craig: "I noticed on our broadcast schedule tomorrow night at 7 o'clock we do NOT have a Stars game here on The Ticket"

George: "Oh, Top 10 then, huh?"

Craig: "Well I don't know. I'm just saying tomorrow night, at 7 o'clock, we do NOT have a Stars game here on the Ticket"

    and that was that...

  8. " i just don't know what to say..." -Bob, at around 3pm yesterday.

Right there with ya, Sturm. 1hundo.

  9. Folks, I think Joonz Coast to Coast is going to be a reality for this very night!!!!!!!

  10. Will this be the time slot for the new Craig and Corby tennis show?

  11. I will identify myself as a "casual" Stars fan. I try to watch all the games on TV but I don't go the AAC ($$$). I don't think I would be as much of a fan if it weren't for Ralph and Razor. I was lighting candles during their latest contract negotiations. Razor's segment with the Musers is appointment radio for me.

So yes, I am enjoying BaD Radio this week. I appreciate that hockey is not a game a lot of Texans embrace, but road trips mean bits and bits are fun.

  12. Chris Chris: selling like a mofo, screwing like a hetero.

  13. The Jamie Benn-Sedin brothers imbroglio is ridiculous. What people find to get worked up over . . .

    But The Ticket legend grows.

  14. HeeHoo's "sick ticker" is already a drop.

    Gosh, I love The Ticket!

  15. "Ragonking" can be used as a verb.

    "I was ragonking..."

"I will never be ragonking again."

In this case it is part of a verb phrase, therefore grammatically it is considered a verb.
If it were to be used as a gerund, it would be "Ragonking is my favorite thing to do."

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hmm. I think "ragonking" in those first two sentences is the object of the verbs "was" and "be," and thus still a gerund (i.e., form of noun). It's being used in the same sense in both of your first two and your final example where it leads the sentence -- to give a certain name to an action.

However, Tom, my grammar knowledge is some distance in the past and I'm willing to concede the point. If you tell me that being a part of a verb phrase makes the word itself a verb -- I don't have the chops to dispute it with authority.

Let's run it by Craig Rosengarden.

  17. Buster Douglas / Mike Tyson talk & Trifecta talk from the HL in the first 2 segments. This is the Hardline I love.....The Ticket that I love. More this and less Cowboy talk would make me a P1 again.

Am I the only one who has noticed a considerable uptick in Norm's slurring of S's and overall over modulating? It's so annoying! Why is he the only host who sounds like he's yelling into the mic? Half of what he says is distorted. Can nothing be done about it?

Dug The Musers baseball roundtable this morning.

Fingers crossed that we get some Junior C2C tonight.

I thought the Corby prank was extremely oversold, meh to the core.

So, Pdazzle, if you see the sentence: "I am running from the law," you don't consider "running" to be a verb? "Running" here is not being used in a gerundive, participial, or infinitive sense. Substitute "Ragonking" for "running" and I believe you have a verb. But I could be wrong...

  20. Corby's bit where he's reading a spot makes him come off as the Dbag he is. It was all about gratifying himself. That poor marketing girl had her day ruined and pretty much humiliated on air so they could burn another selfish Corby segment.

  21. Sounds like we're going to get Junior's Coast to Coast Thursday night at 7.

Again, I think the station is trying to give the P1 campout bits without the campout.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Junior coast to coast? In.

As a dyed in the wool Stars fan let me say first and foremost I am glad on days that I have to venture west and north that 96.7 is part of the arsenal.

Not quite sure what to make of the Sedin twins imbroglio. Stars did the PR standard and handed out the non-denial denial. Standard practice is standard.
Yeehaw Van got some radio coverage out of it. Made the hockey news too. It fits the normal narrative of Texas as being homophobic. Truth and whatnot beside the point.

Anybody that has been here since last week probably knows my political tendencies. I should not need to show my card.

I didn't see a whole heckuva lot wrong with it. Yeah, with some minor stretching it could have been construed as a homophobic slant, but it could have just as easily been construed in another direction. We know the participants. I have no reason to believe that they have been hostile towards the LGBT community in the past or present. This was a joke gone astray? I can't think of anybody less hostile to the gay human, whether in sport or not, than Dan. If he is the goat in this, they have missed the target by miles.

They got points where they didn't expect to and lost where they shouldn't have. Jinx? Got double shorty too. Random.

I know some diehards can't stand the interruption of programming.
    thems the breaks. We're here.

Thought Donnie did well up there in Far North Yankee. Maximum T BroJake too.

  23. Cactus- I would take it a step further than labeling Texans as homophobic. I think this is Canadians doing the superior dance because they can't stand that hockey is working in Texas and Texans can't possibly be real hockey fans.

  24. Gypo: Before everyone else jumps down your shorts:

Can you give us a clue? If not a clue, is this something where we should hold our butts tightly, or just caress them gently in anticipation of a full butt-holding should something of note actually come to pass?

Also, shouldn't it be: "Hold on to your butts"?

  25. Texas has more than it's share of homophobephobes as well.

I'll tune in to Junior's Coast to Coast AM. However, 5 minutes in when the dominant topic becomes alien anal probing, I'll shut it off.

On the surface corky reached peak-dooshiness playing his gag on the sales lady this week. However, I think there is WAY more to that story which he couldn't share on radio. It sounds like he was dealing with a personality that rubs him (and others) the wrong way and he wanted to put her in her place. BTW, I can't prove any of that.

  26. Very mediocre Valentine Day cards from Gordo this morning. This used to be one of the funnier bits on the musers along with his halloween cards. Another sign that Gordo may be mailing it in. He's losing his fastball.

  27. Corby's comatose-reading-of-Baker-Bros-copy prank yesterday was very, very inside. It amused all three Hard Ones much more than the listener, but, as a Confessor suggests above, there were in-house subcurrents going through that one that no listener could hope to appreciate. The captured audio itself, which was very brief, had little inherent comedy in it.

Mildly surprised the Pan-American Catman would approve the on-air mortification of a female senior account executive.

  28. Several times over the past few weeks, we've been told to grasp the gluteus maximus. However, I haven't really seen a scorecard of what came to fruition as a result of such warnings.

I've seen a couple of changes - no crosstalk, dropping the Ticker tease - but nothing that I would consider worthy of a butt fondling warning. Norm's still doing his thing. The Musers are still intact. Corby is still over-Corbying the Hardline. BADD is returing from a triumphant East Coast swing with the Stars. No real changes in the JV or weekends either.

So, what have we been holding on for? Can someone please catch me up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I always enjoy when the Musers have Dwayne Caraway on. He always bring something new to the table each time. Hope is dad is doing ok. It's a shame they can't get together to watch a game. I think that would be a great Muses outing. Something similar to watch IJB does with the Cowboys games.

  30. I think the P1 only cares about pranks that involve Ticket personnel. Nobody cares about an anonymous sales executive who didn't exist until Wednesday. On the other hand, they did pull back the curtain a little for the mechanics of how spots get made. For anyone who didn't already know.

And just so you know - when you order online, you can put ANYTHING in the radio promo box and get the discount. Try it.

  31. So was there an episode of Joonzz Coast to Coast last night? I figured I'd see something on the Unticket this morning if there were. I'd be fine with the world if random nights each month had Junes Coast to Coast or Gordo's impromptu Rant revival.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It'll be tonight.

He keeps tweeting countdowns. Tune in at 7!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I suspect there's little reason to grasp our posterior...at least in any meaningful, impactful sense.

The lame attempt of a prank, the major increase in show cross pollination, a possible Joonz Coast to Coast, etc., screams of a station that, after a decade plus of dominance and the inevitable resulting state of fat cat we'll shovel whatever we want down your throat and you'll love it
laziness, has realized the environment has changed and is desperately trying to recapture what is long gone. Can they do it? Frankly, thus far it's been a decidedly mixed bag. He'll, even THL's reaction to the car chase and the station's subsequent, immediate playing it up as an instant classic piece of audio gold reeks of desperation.

  34. The Pro Flowers radio code is a complete scam. Just paid almost $60 for flowers that were advertised for $29.99 with the radio code. $12.99 delivery charge, $4.99 fee for delivery on 2/13 and $4.99 "care and handling" fee. Ridiculous. Doing something nice for the wife that I don't normally do is really a rip off.

    F Valentine's Day.

  35. In reference to any Gypo postings, I can sign in under that moniker and say "hold on to your butts". That phrase means nothing anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anon 11:22---If this is your first time using Pro Flowers, it'll likely be your last as well. Unless things have changed, their flowers are delivered in a box and require the recipient to assemble the arrangement. It's like IKEA flowers or something.
