Hey plainsman
ReplyDeleteRecognize the "ticket chick" on the right?
You should. Or at least recognize something about her. Need a hint?
Hopefully the Unticket will bless those of us who can't make it with some Time Wasters audio. Mike and Donny should bring something interesting, and apparently Corby will have an acoustic original that he is sure to find hilarious.
ReplyDeleteReplay of Nolan Ryan and the snow monkey story this morning. Even though I have heard it, I still die laughing.
ReplyDeletePretty sure Timewasters audio never gets recorded, other than the hosts themselves recording and replaying in the days following. I don't recall The Unticket ever having it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who the voiceover girl that they're forcing into every promo now? Is she a Ticketchick or something? I first noticed her on the strange, pointless Regonk definition thing they've been playing coming out of breaks.
ReplyDeleteClarence Murphy - funny funny
ReplyDeleteCarlton Maxwell - funny funny
That is the extremely hot Becca of Stick It Up Your Tailpipe fame. So sweet and clean.
ReplyDeleteDan has been bringing the heat & sending some ppl off to grab their shineboxes! Love It!
ReplyDeleteThat Nolan/Snow Monkey audio never gets old!
Merry Ticketstock Weekend!
Interesting that both The FAN and ESPN are still doing their version of "Tune it in, turn it up, keep it on" after their version of the Ticker. Also interesting that Norm said yesterday that for the next few months the hosts would be stopping in on one another's shows. Am I the only one who finds such things odd?
ReplyDeleteReally funny hearing a certain ticker guy that has on air meltdowns all the time criticize someone else's on air presentation.
ReplyDeleteNot odd at all. Cross pollination and round tables have always been highlights of the listening day. The ratings battle is on.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that the cross-pollination of shows is a response to the lower ratings, IMO. But it makes complete sense and harkens back to the halcyon days. I love it. So while it seems a "little" forced, overall this is great for the P1.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have noticed that I am getting used to the weekend changes with no crosstalk. It still sucks, I loved the crosstalk between the Tee Box and the Orphanage and then with the Sirois. But at the end of the day, it is really not that big of a deal as I thought it would be.
Oh boy. Another lecture from Corby and Danny on gay marriage (with copious silence from Mike).
ReplyDeleteIf Corby "doesn't care" I would sure hate for him to go on about something he does care about.
And after a short amount of time, neither will the other changes that are coming down the pike, Tricky Kid. At least that's what the CTO is banking on. Something tells me they're absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteHold on to your butts no longer has cache. Sadly, someone began impersonating the real Gypo Nolan (gee, wanna guess who that person is?), and now the phrase is nothing but Little Red Riding Hood stuff. But (pun intended), you might want to grip your coffee mug a bit tighter if you are (as Dr. Carlton Maxwell is) so inclined. Changes, they be a'comin'. Sooner rather than later. That is all. Carry on.
What's your take on it?
ReplyDeleteCorby said he "doesn't care" if gays get married. Not that he "doesn't care" about the issue.
ReplyDeleteSee the difference.
The Musers discussed the same story this morning. But they managed to not turn it into a sermon.
ReplyDeleteHe who with another ebrake win and if you've been listening today, has just been miserable. I thought the tattoo bit was great, and he wouldn't even acknowledge it or be a good sport.
ReplyDeleteAt the Irving, Convention center.....
yup

The Cowboys should definitely give Dez a $100 million deal.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is a T.O. starter kit.
Couldn't figure out how to link it but Jan book has Ticket tied for last. Wow, may wanna grab ur butts now, change is coming.
ReplyDeleteSportsDay iOS app was updated today and all it said was "Bug Fixes". I think it has a lot more work to do before it's a great app.
ReplyDeleteYep. These changes and trying to recapture that old magic aren't mete coinkydinks....

Nice long mix between The Teebox and The Orphanage this morning. Is this because of Ticketstock or because the CTO finally came to their senses on having eliminated it in the first place?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the link provided by bm, GBag nation took the #1 after drive spot from THL. My Musers kept the morning slot with pretty healthy numbers but this should be a telling sign the Cat and other decision makers. Maybe mixing shifts in the next couple of months will help. I know I enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteSo are we starting to see the trend as Plainsman and others mentioned we need to see? I believe this is the first time any of the Ticket major shows lost to another station, but there is a trend showing KTCK losing share and other stations gaining share. I for one don't care, as I'm not a "my station can beat up your station" kind of guy. As long as the Ticket changes for the better, to my ears, I don't care if they win by a wide margin. I just don't want to see them lose by a wide margin.
ReplyDeleteT4:
ReplyDeleteInteresting to note the numbers were down for all the sports talkers from the previous book.
I wonder the median age of Dallas sports talk listeners. I would be willing to bet it's somewhere north of 40.
Having lived through the brain dead dismantling of KLIF in the 90's, I fear the short-sighted radio executive.
ReplyDeleteHow much of a ratings drop over how long a period could trigger a panic resulting in a wholesale house cleaning at the Ticket.
I don't want to be overly dramatic about a couple of ratings books, but KLIF has never recovered from being fixed when it wasn't broken.
Grasp on to your hindquarters, firmly and fearlessly. A seismic change that has been in the works is about to go down.
ReplyDeleteYou have been warned.
That is all.
BTW, Ticketstock was pretty well attended. Not one of the most attended, but a respectable showing. The Timewasters were the best they've ever been.
Scattershooting while at Ticketstock and while scanning the dial this rainy Sunday morning:
ReplyDelete* The Time Wasters band is absolutely spectacular. What a bunch of fantastic musicians. There wasn't one host/JV who put on a bad performance, either. Some were more professional than others, but none embarrassed themselves. Donovan was awesome; as was George. It was also cool seeing Shoopy up there Chili Peppering it up (Seabass did a more than serviceable job on the vocals). I did not stay for the Old 97s. Not my thang.
* Tons of dudes, some chicks, some of them even lookers--actual hotness, not just "Ticketstock hot."
* The pingpong match was greatness. Carlisle was cool as all get out. Sirloin was nervous at first, but began to get his footing. But by the time he did, it was too late. Coach was a lot better than him anyway.
* I've only been to 3 Ts's. This was probably the least attended, though not by much. The last one I went to was in '06. So that was pre-Greggo departure, there was no real radio competition, and they were riding about as high as it gets. The place was nut to butt.
* After TSJ and the replay of Ed Carter, I switched over the The FAN to hear Pete Stein and Fish. Hey, there's nothing else on. Somehow, someway, they started talking in not so veiled terms about the latest ratings books. Without naming names/stations, Fish (not Pete) started saying something along these lines: Of course being the Cowboys flagship station helps in the ratings. Duh. It's like being the show after Seinfeld in the 90s, you're going to benefit. But the thing is, it's an across the board jump in ratings. It's across the board during the weekdays, and in all hours and it's still happening after the Cowboys' season's over. So it's more than that. Yet you keep hearing from some how "oh it's just an anomaly, it's all due to the Cowboys." Really? We've had them for how many seasons now? The ratings during their games have stayed the same throughout. Just because they had a good season, we're now benefitting big time doesn't wash. Again, it's an across the board and sustained ratings boost. It's real. And hopefully it's here to stay. I think, I know, it is.
I thought it was pretty interesting and perhaps even accurate. Fish was smart not to call out anyone and instead speak in generalities.
Maybe I'm being sucked in or maybe I'm a sky is falling guy, but I think The Ticket, from CTO to host to JV to jv of the JV, is worried.
* Finally, and FAN related. I take it it's a Cumulus thing, but why is it that a CBS station can run an almost 24-7 all local station and The Ticket (which prides itself of it being a bunch of local guys talking local things) spends what seems more and more time throwing it nationally? Heck, it even has a nightly, syndicated, CBS guy, Ferrall, gracing its airwaves. I do think that The FAN's all local, 24-7 content (even if some is a replay) is taking away at least some listeners.
Been away for several days without a break. Sorry for the delay in approving comments.
ReplyDeleteI will have a spot of news on the Ticket's plight coming up shortly.
02-18, 832 PM (first comment above), in going back to look at that TChick photo, the rightmost TC bears a resemblance to Traffic Twist Becca. Is that who it is?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your spot, Pman.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda worried about knee-jerk changes at The Ticket myself. I too remember the several years of varying overhauls of KLIF. Like 823 said, radio execs ruined what was once a great station. Yeah it needed a bit of tweaking, but that's not what radio execs, CTOs, whathaveyounots do. They like to stamp their impression, make their mark on everything they do.
So yeah I'm a little concerned. I can't but think these little changes are only the beginning. That's exactly what happened with KLIF.
Interested in what you have to say, Pman.

ReplyDeleteLet's hope Dan Bennett learned his lesson about listening to consultants during the destruction of KLIF. It too was a market leader until they started "messing" with things. The station never recovered from the Big 570 thing. Lets hope KTCK doesn't follow that path.
