Remembering Casey

-  -  -

As noted in the last post, it struck me a few days ago that I hadn't heard Casey Millen on the air in a long time.

In a comment, KT advises that Casey is "out of radio."

This both saddened and concerned me.

Saddened, because, while Casey had a controversy or two during his Ticket tenure, he was a pretty solid JV player and becoming a familiar voice on the station, at least on weekends.  Perhaps a bit too obviously ambitious -- I caught his sig other giving him props on this site -- but talented.  Knew his way around a mic, had some OK patter.  Smart.

Concerned, because he seems to have vanished.  He may be out of radio, but his (apparently inactive) Twitter description and LinkedIn summary still list The Ticket as his current home.  I find no news of him elsewhere.

I have no interest in prying into his personal life if he has suffered some misfortune, and if I learn that this was the case, I will take this post down.  But I recall that when Barb Smith vanished from the traffic scene a couple of years ago and readers were questioning her whereabouts, she dropped us a comment and let us know all was well.  (Put this site on the map, I might add -- surfers still visit this site looking for Barb.)

Casey has corresponded with this site in the past, so I'm hopeful he will do so again and let us know that he's out there swinging.  In any event, very best of luck to him.

  1. OK. I'm almost always, at least in part, like minded with you; but this one is kinda off the farm, Plainsman. The guy was a weekend Ticker person. Those guys come and go (at least when compared to board ops and producers). He probably realized that the sports radio, radio in general, and sports in general biz's are very difficult to break into, and even harder to advance past a fairly low level. And so decided to move on. Or maybe he found something else that floats his boat? Or perhaps he was offered a job doing something else for more money? Who knows. But what is known, is that the dude was a weekend, JV, Ticker person whose chick once touted him as the next Jim Rome meets Jim Carrey on this site, who made a few iffy, personal comments about his co workers on air, and who also did on the whole a good job with his Tickers. Good luck to Casey. But let's leave it be. I'm sure he's absolutely fine. While not totally analogous, you're kinda stepping into Josh might have ALDS waters again. As the kids put it: "Jus' sayin'."

  2. I'm not suggesting he was in the Tkcet Hall of Fame. He was on for awhile and was in the process of becoming better-known, and then he's gone. This blog is about The Ticket. When a pretty well-known name vanishes, it's news. I'm going to wonder about it.

  3. Yeah, I agree with edfes, this is pointless. Who cares about Casey Millen? I barely remember the guy except when he decided to try and train wreck shows for no apparent reason and his attempts were very unfunny. Seems like there was another time he verbally attacked someone on the air and came across as a real jackass. Actually, until you brought it up, I hadn't thought of him in months.

  4. I'm ok guys. I left the Ticket b/c I found a better opportunity elsewhere that I don't wish to reveal. Stay Hard.

  7. I certainly wouldn't want to be on anyone's nuts if I were you, Plainsman. It just sounds uncomfortable for everyone involved. That said, Anonymous might want to remove himself from Plainsman's nuts. It's widely discussed and acknowledged around here that this is his sandbox and he'll speculate where, when and how he damn well pleases. Why is that so hard for people to grasp?

  9. Haha...I wasn't expecting to read this @ 7:14 pm, as I'm about to drive home. These posts definitely made me laugh out loud though.

  13. Ollo,

"Casey M." is not the real Casey Millen. I should know because I am he, the former controversial weekend ticker guy.

I would like to thank those who have wasted a moment contemplating whether or not I am dead. Additionally I would like to extend a thanks to the haters. The world needs bad wrestlers too.

The Plainsman's speculations are all kinda right. I walked away from my humble JV gig at KTCK due to some personal reasons AND because I was money whipped by an opportunity that was in the best interest of my children.

I may or may not crop up in radio again. I figure I will pursue it at some point...somewhere. DFW was (after all) my 4th radio market and I will likely be paying for my broadcating degree for the next 2-decades.

Anyway, I had a great time and am especially thankful to Miker Ryner and Dick Hicks for making it all possible.
