My Ticket Confession Would Like to Be the First to Congratulate Mike Rhyner on His Induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame

Unfortunately, I'm way behind in getting to this.  But wherever this site falls in the queue of fans lined up to offer best wishes, it does so sincerely and with the hope that his voice stays strong on The Ticket for many years to come.

What's on your mind, Mike?

  1. Agreed.
Those of us who grew up with KZEW will always have a soft spot in our hearts for Mike and his fine work there. I even remember his short stint as a sports reporter at WBAP.
Gordon, Corby, and Donnie owe him a huge debt for inventing the yuck monkey in a three man team.
Long live the Old Grey Wolf.

Something tells me he still has more to say about the day to day at KTCK than we are lead to believe.

  2. Was that today? Guess someone won't be at fah fuh fuh fuh fah's nuptials. He is the lucky one.

    ReplyDelete
  3. And so it begins. A thread congratulating Mike's induction to the HOF takes, what, two comments before a T.C. shot is taken.

    Suck it Jiggity.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Seriously, you'd think TC ran over his dog or slept with his wife. Layoff man, this thread had nothing to do with TC.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Congrats to Mike. The OGW is true greatness.

Ditto on the enough about TC. Enough. It's old.

  6. Mike,
Your work is much appreciated and respected.
Best wishes for many more years in the business!!

  7. Three huzzahs for The Old Grey Wolf. Good job, brutha! Much deserved. And like Smith Barney.....he earrrrrrrned it.

  8. Okay okay, im not minimalizing the crotchety one's achievement, but wasn't the HOF news a couple months ago? I wasn't aware the ceremony was Saturday. So screw off.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jiggly acknowledges the error in his ways, then tells all to screw off. Understood. Lord, help us all.

  10. Gagree with almost everyone. We wouldn't be here sharing our thoughts about the greatness of the little ticket without Mike Rhyner. Congratulations on the well deserved recognition.

  11. The very first PD, the main cog in the wheel, and the biggest star on the roster when the system started and is still chucking his fastball up there with the best of them. Hat's off to you, Hollywood. The second person on the roster, but the first original member to take his rightful place in the Hall.

  12. Did you see where The Hammer said he had "reservations" for the ceremony but didn't want to go because he didn't want to be a "distraction"?

  13. Very disappointed in the mid-day tickers today. They are researched, well-read, and lack any mumbling or stammering. Even rookies know tickers should include at least two stumbles, an unfunny pun, an ignorant personal opinion, and the announcer should sign off with an unintelligible vocal noise.

  14. I'm shocked there hasn't yet been a commotion over this:

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/more-sports/headlines/20141031-the-ticket-still-no.-1-overall-but-fails-to-win-every-primetime-weekday-hour.ece

"The Ticket still No. 1 overall, but fails to win every primetime weekday hour"

"At 4 p.m., “The Afternoon Show” on KESN-FM 103.3 scored a 4.4 share to narrowly top the 4.2 earned by “The Hardline” on SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket.

    Also at 6 a.m., 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan and R.J.” topped The Ticket’s “Musers”, 4.1 to 2.8."

    Come on, doomsayers!

    ReplyDelete
  15. 2.8? There's no chance The Musers got a 2.8 in the demo that matters

  16. P1s get to vote for the White Elephant lineup this year!

    ReplyDelete
  17. 221, that is of interest. And yes, those appear to be the results for The Demo (men 25-54).

Didn't we see a BaD Radio dip a couple of books ago that lasted exactly one book?

And those numbers are quirky enough -- especially that Muser 6 a.m. hour -- that they appear anomalous. That's a strongly Gordon-flavored hour.

But the fact that we see these results in two different hours on the strongest shows is suggestive of, as they say, something going on. Let's keep an eye out.

Thanks for passing that along, 221.

    Worth keeping an eye on.

What did I tell you? I told you to grab your butts and hold on tight, but no one believed me.

Maybe now you'll believe me when I say that this is only the beginning. But more to come. So keep your grasp firm!

  19. Count me shocked by The Musers number, aren't they close to averaging double digits? 2.8 seems mighty low, even at 6a.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If TC and Jake can find women to marry them there is hope for every guy to find a woman. If these 2 clowns can get married anyone can.

Tickers were wonderful today from 12-3 thanks to Justin Montemayor.

  21. #'s put up by "Anonymous" are wrong. Ticket won every hour from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Must be a Fan listener posting the wrong numbers.

  22. #'s put up by "Anonymous" are wrong. Ticket won every hour from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Talk to Barry Horn. He wrote the article; I just copy-pasted the sentences.

    ReplyDelete
  23. OK. I get it.

    Corby gets it.

  24. I remember being in junior high, listening to KZEW in the mornings, and thinking that Mike had the best job in the world. Fast forward many years, and I remember thinking that Rhynes had the best job in the world. Fast forward a few more years, and Rhyner has the best job in the world. Thank you Michael. You've been a constant presence throughout my life. As I have changed throughout the years, so have you. Always one step ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Little One changes over time. Just like we change over time. These changes aren't permanent.

Not Clotho. Not Lachesis. Not Atropos.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Shove off, dude. And grow up while you're at it."

Wow. So angry. I don't get it. There was nothing offensive or volatile said. It's just a radio station, friend.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know what to make of the numbers. If we generally buy Barry Horn's insight, it seems logical to believe them this time around. Perhaps The Fan is getting a boost from flagshipping the Cowboys?

Personally, I don't care. I'll go down with the ship. Although, truth be told, I'm not seeing the S.S. Little One taking on water anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll also be one to go down with the ship. I'm still very loyal to the Musers.

So, all you have to do is say hold on to your butt and sit back for awhile and then claim knowledge of something going on? Hmmm...Fan Troll. ..

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yo 11/3/9:05, is that your new version of "you mad, bro?" Weak stuff. Go home FAN boy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. M25-54 is all that matters. Does anyone have those numbers?

    This does show that KRLD-FM beat KTCK-AM, but it's not M25-54. http://ratings.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb024

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really enjoying the Musers this week, sounds like they're just having a blast over there.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "M25-54 is all that matters. Does anyone have those numbers? "

    RTFA. That's what was covered.

I just thought it was interesting that one hour of the hardline lost to ESPN, considering how many people complain (inappropriately, IMO) about it being the Corby & Danny show.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Now that we know that Cat is reading this, I'd like to speak directly to him: The promos which promise that the Ticket talks about the Cowboys nearly all the time are not good. I want to hear about more than just the Cowboys. When a station insists that any one team is the primary topic, I am incentivized to turn the channel. Only speaking for myself, but that promo has the potential to backfire.

  34. Jeff "Catman of the Americas" CatlinNovember 4, 2014 at 12:10 PM

James, we'll fix that immediately. Thank you for your valued input.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cat only stops by once or twice a year. Wait, what?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Whoever posted under my name at 1216 WAS NOT THE REAL ME so please disregard whoever that was

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, now the real people have to turn to Google+ to defend their identity if they care to participate.

Way to go, to "the uncreative".

    ReplyDelete
  38. As soon as I saw that "Justin Montemayor" comment I contacted the real JM immediately to confirm that some JO had posted under his name. Took it down as soon as I could.

Nor do I have any reason to believe that Cat has posted in this thread.

See, folks, this is why it is pointless to demand that people use names rather than Anon. I have to spend time untangling identities because of a few liars in the bunch.

Apologies to Justin on behalf of the lackwit who stole his identity.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well since you're reading, Justin, just wanted to tell you you're kicking ass on those tickers. Keep it up, pal!

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Wow, now the real people have to turn to Google+ to defend their identity if they care to participate."

This is a tragedy and unacceptable. I promise to use all my power as President of The United States to end this senseless abuse of identity.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You deserve the 10-3 ticker Justin. TC is terrible. You got hosed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. dude...your bit is old. give it up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. RE: James.
I have not heard said promo because I rarely listen in the fall because I despise the Cowboys. I did tune in to catch College Football Tuesday on THL and then stuck around for the segment with Craig. Mike made the sarcastic comment that "they were instructed to talk more Cowboys" and jokingly tried to do it several times. My guess like others have stated on here Cat is laying down this mandate and judging by those numbers recently posted this could be why. But... sorry Cat, not all of us need wall-to-wall Cowboys coverage and as Norm suggests I will go elsewhere for my sportstalk and radio in general. Until January.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anybody wanna go?

    Who wants to go?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Corby thinks it's hysterical that Edna called the Fake Al Gore "honey."

This is the guy who calls sports figures he's never met "buddy."

    ReplyDelete
  46. Amen to others who are saying "more cowboys talk = instant punchout"...
I hate the fall because I usually have to stay away from The Ticket until about Wednesday so all the cowboys talk subsides..(ESPECIALLY all the mandatated butt-kissing after wins)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Paul The Damn VikingNovember 4, 2014 at 11:20 PM

Tom, right there with you. I've been a listener since day 1 but, this football season I find myself not tuning in until Wednesday as well. The Cowboy talk, especially after a win, is unbearable. I miss The Ticket that I grew up with.

BADD Radio with TC "Rahgonk" Fleming and Jake is a punch out.

I don't like where things are headed.

  48. barb, twine, and weightNovember 5, 2014 at 2:28 AM

    Dear Tom and Paul:

Cease and desist. There is nothing more obvious, nothing more pathetic, than a commenter who posts another "atta boy" buttressing comment to his or her original comment. And even more-so when it's so damn obvious.

This site has some of the most educated, thoughtful, respectful, and insightful commenters....conjoined with some of the most opaque, sad-sack, troll/clown-"townies" in the pejorative sense ejaculators in all of interwebdom.

Long live The Ticket. Long live MTC.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Justin Montemayor - enjoyed listening to this week's podcast. keep it up. yall and IJB are must-listens for me on a weekly basis.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good call Barb. I think Pman is onto him as the same dude had 4 posts in a row deleted a little earlier in the thread. Seems he discovered the Name/URL button about 2 weeks ago and has been whippin us ever since.

On another note, I'm really surprised there hasn't been much discussion about the Musers trip this week. I don't think I've ever enjoyed listening to them more than I have this week, and I've been a P1 since '96. Can I get an Amen?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Amen

But if I may be forgiven for lightly touching the political page - I think it's great that the Ticket has political historians like Corby and Danny to tell us that Al Gore actually won.

    Not John Edwards

    ReplyDelete
  52. Meh

Musers trip across Texas was better.

Also enjoy the Musers camp out and the ticket compound much more.

We need more of the Whistle Talker.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hear Bob, love me some Whistle Talker, was he on today again? Hard to believe he's in London on the salary of a senior supervisor at the Sachse Sack and Save.

I've been over there a few times and really love it so maybe that's where my enjoyment this week stems from.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've enjoyed the Musers quite a bit this week. The discussions of their escapades bring back memories of my trips with the Air Force and such. I realized that this morning's visit with Hawksbee and Jacobs meant they're on the air around 1pm GMT? They're the BADD radio of Britain; or is BADD the Hawksbee and Jacobs of America?
Too much to ponder, I sleep now.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Musers in Merry Olde England has been the tits. Very much looking forward to hearing about Jub and Gourd's soccer outing tomorrow.

Count me as someone who wishes all Ticket hosts would lay off the political pipe. Danny and Corby embarrassed themselves yesterday. I also wish Gourdough would refrain from his I took this one class in community college and stuff philosophizing and psychologizing. Alas neither wish will ever come true.

    Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "Roy Tarpley's House of Cocaine"

May be the line of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm liking subliminal whispering Danny: 'cowboys'

    ReplyDelete
  58. The boys are clearly having one of their temper tantrums when they hear they are being criticized for talking too much Cowboy. Kind of a tired bit.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Can we get back to the topic at a hand?

    T.C. sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Did Gordon do a Fake Jerry Monday? I tried finding it by skimming through the show archive at Unticket to no avail. There didn't seem to be an 8:40 bit at all.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sorry for belaboring the point but I found it interesting that Troy pulled the curtain back for us a little on his pre-interview discussion with Fernando who mentioned to him that some of the Musers best programming ever has occurred this week. One man's opinion, sure, but someone who know of whence he speaketh.

Wonder if it truly does have something to do with the fact they're broadcasting from 11:30a to 4p, their time? That's kinda what they alluded to and I believe it.

Great stuff this week, wish I could listen more.

    ReplyDelete
  62. As you may or may not know, I can't stand corky, but his British crank call to Norm is killin' me right now. If only he would've stuck to his yuckmonkeyness way back when...

    ReplyDelete
  63. That's awesome! I'll have to catch it on The Unticket. I remember Norm telling BaD in the mix that he was going to be on the BBC.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well played, Corby. Well played.

It was sad day when he vacated the yuck monkey chair.

    ReplyDelete
  65. In a later segment Danny mentioned The Hammer and it didn't sound with as much vitriol as it has in the past, leading me to believe that maybe time is healing some wounds. Wouldn't it be something to get to the point that maybe someday they could have him on for a segment and maybe for a week have him as a +1? That would be greatness.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't think Mike will ever allow it.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah. Let's hope that doesn't come to pass.

And I second the approval of Corby's performance, and I don't even like pranks. Pretty good for quite a long time until he ran out of things to say, and it got goofy there at the end with the "Friends" and "Seinfeld" thread. Good damned job.

    ReplyDelete
  68. BTW: Mike's introduction to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
