MTC Welcomes "The Ticket Tribute"

Confessor Shaggy called to this site's attention a new Ticket site, "The Ticket Tribute," found here:

www.tickettribute.com

It's only been around for a couple of months, but it's pretty darned good. The Ticket Tribute Guy is more technically savvy than Your Plainsman. He (she?) has constructed a site using WordPress and it has features (the ability to be notified of comments, for example) that Confessors have asked for but that MTC lacks and which I don't believe is available on Blogger. He has scrolling photos to call attention to articles, a Twitter feed -- pretty snazzy. He's also appropriated The Ticket logo.   (The Ticket logo is not a registered trademark, but it is undoubtedly a recognizable trademark.)  I don't believe it is a Ticket-sponsored website, however.  A couple of posts made me wonder, but on balance I'm almost certain this does not have official CTO blessing..

The content appears to be more focused on Ticket news rather than observation and opinion. It's more of a fan site than MTC, or that's the way it appears to date.

It's also pretty clear that Ticket Trib Guy has a longer history with The Ticket than I do, and is more generally knowledgeable about DFW sports-talk radio and its history. He makes reference to his job taking him into the bowels of a local stadium, so he may also have some sportsy background which Your Plainsman decidedly lacks.  He has technical information for those interested in things like Internet streaming.

Readers may comment.  Comments are moderated in advance of their appearance online..

I'm very happy about the appearance of The Ticket Tribute. The thought has crept into my Tickhead lately that it may be time to put MTC out to stud, and if The Ticket Tribute proves to have some staying power, I'd feel better about that. It would also give me a place to ramble, although I suppose I could ramble at The UnTicket if it would have me.  And that Radio-Info board ain't half bad for comments, either.

In any event, it's great to check out The Ticket Tribute, so please do so. Welcome, Ticket Trib Guy.  Let us hear from you.  I'm sure I'll be posting on your site, and the reason I know that  is because I already have.  Not sure yet whether I've been moderated in or out.

I'll be out for a few days, so as usual, treat this post as your personal Open Thread and let us know what's on your Ticket mind.  Say, did anyone hear -- who was it, Gordon? --  say that the reason the Campout was so brief this year was that Mike R refused to stay out more than one night?  Damn, I need to carry a little notepad with me or something.

  1. The last part of this post has no merit.

  2. @Anon, do you want to break it down paragraph-by-paragraph for us? We're dying to know what you think about sentence 18.

  3. Plain assed tired of these anions coming on here bitching about the way the blog is written. IF IT'S SO BOTHERSOME TO YOU STOP READING THE BLOG. Wow. Is it that difficult? Of course now you get the sensitive anon from the last thread who doesn't like to be told that his complaints are tiresome and fruitless and that he surely isn't one of or the one person who keeps posting the same gripe about the writing.

Give us all a break, anon or anions. I mean, who gives a rat's ass if it's one or twenty of them. Just move on. All of you.

  4. And for the record, as if it matters, I think it is one anon. I think the sensitive anon on the last thread was playing a game of wounded tiger. So there.

  5. We just need some cations to balance them out!

  6. I don't remember if it was Gordon, but I did hear someone say that.

  7. I'm not sure what's going on here of late, but the com boxes are starting to resemble Grubesismyleader than MTC. I for one don't like it. Can we please stop with the silly back and forths, non sequiter comments, and the likes? Can we get back to discussing The Ticket?

  8. Arbitrons for May (from March to May). Holy mackerel, The FAN just keeps getting worse. ESPN doesn't fare much better when you consider the uptick reflects Rangers and Mavs first round playoff ratings. (They go from a 1.5 in March to a 2.3 in May).

The short of it: As much as we bemoan the current situation at The Ticket, and as bad as the CTO seems to be, nothing is going to change anytime soon, if ever. The ratings say it all.

Does any one else see the brilliance of Marie's joke? I thought we were having fun here no?

To the people that are complaining about anonymous commentors, you must be new to the internet.

  11. @Lee Corso, it's that kind of quiet brilliance that helped her discover electricity and invent powered human flight and the Ouija board.

@Anon, the bad thing about non sequiturs is refrigerator.

  12. This really does seem to be devolving into the Grubes Is My Leader Board. Guess I'll check back in a week or so and see if things have returned to normal. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but I come here for reasoned thought, observation, and analysis on all things Ticket (from both Plainsman and his commenters). Unfortunately these last two threads have been comprised of 80% "are we having fun, no? GIMLeader" quips and jabs, and 20% good old MTC exchanges of thoughts and ideas. That's just the way I see it.

On another note, those ratings sure are telling. Without the Rangers bumping up ESPN's numbers, you wouldn't know that The Little One had two competitors in the market. Talk about sitting pretty. When you consider all the b.s. we listeners have had to put up with since the Victory move, the hosts and the CTO must be elated. It shows how good The Ticket is even when it sounds like crap, and just how bad the competition is. And man is it bad.

  13. Interviews with big names on the TicketJune 12, 2012 at 3:08 PM

I know The Hardline and The Musers stubbornly shun interviews with big sports figures. But it bothers me when I read articles by Garry Fraley quoting Jon Daniels or Nolan Ryan from interviews on stations like the Fan or ESPN, and never from interviews on the Ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Which is interesting, seeing how The Ticket has partnered up with the Dallas Morning News. You'd think they would be mentioned. Especially when Fraley goes on with both the Hardline and The Musers (he was on with D&M this morning).

  15. You know, I actually cringe whenever I read that the competitors are that far behind in the rear-view mirror. It means that the Cumulo-overlords have absolutely *zero* incentive to improve any of the nagging issues like drops, hot mics, failing remotes, etc etc. Maybe my view is a little jaded though as I'm catching up on two-week old audio and I just fought through a remote conducted on cell phones. I hope that restaurant demanded their money back.

Mrs. Curie, thank you for your contributions to science, and sorry about that whole slow-death-by-radioactive-poisoning thing. Genius comment though - perhaps our anions will find some other free radical thinkers to pair up with. *tap-tap*...this thing on?

  16. "Bad ratio three-way sex"

Little colloquialisms like the one above really make my day (as does re-hearing them on the Top Ten). I sincerely, SINCERELY hope my Morning Musers never, EVER leave me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Actually, the real genius comment was the Bomber using the term 'anion' along with 'anon.' Yours was funny, too, Mrs. Curie.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mme Curie: Even after it dawning on me what a cation is, I am having some trouble hooking it up with anything else to make a gag out of it, so someone will have to explain to your addled Plainsman (and, I suspect, others).

I'm not worried about this site becoming too much like GIML. We've had a huge influx of new readers after earlier posts have been retweeted, and there will be some posters who haven't internalized the gestalt. So give it some time.

I will say that excessive babyarm references are cause for concern and may be deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Bomber said he was tired of anions coming on here, when he meant to say anons. Its funny because anions are negatively charged particles, and cations are positive, and lalalla having to explain it makes it less funny now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. To further ruin the joke, free radicals are also positively charged molecules.

    uhh...."babyarm" ;)

  21. Folks, you have one and only one source for fundamental particle sports-guy-talk humor, and that is My Ticket Confession. Once I realized how popular it was becoming, I lepton it immediately.

See you at Summa Bash. Hoping they revive the wet T-shirt contests featuring the bosons of comely TicketChicks.

If this doesn't drive you to The Ticket Tribute, nothing will.

  27. What just happened here?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll tell you what is happening. This site is quickly becoming the new Remove Rowdy/Grubes is My Leader site. You'd better put an end to this, Plainsman, or your going to lose control of your site faster than you can say "Rocco no longer works here."

    ReplyDelete
  29. Regrettably concur. Been away, but back and finding that some tidying up is required.

Hate to take down comments, but The Bomber's last two contributions had to go for sheer look-at-me-ism.

    And I like Motörhead.

The wordplay is OK, pretty rare here, but all the irrelevant self-regarding crap will be RIP as soon as I can get to it. I'll continue to err on the side of indulgence, though.

As I mentioned in the past month or so visits to this site have approximately tripled, so we're getting some folks who haven't soaked up the feel of the room just yet. I'm hoping I don't have to be a bouncer every day, but we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As a new reader, what exactly differentiates a Remove Rowdy/Grubes is My Leader poster from the rest of the posters?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I did not remove the post relating to Grubes Is My Leader/Remove Rowdy. Check it out, it's still there. I don't care if other people like other sites better and express that opinion here (appropriately, of course). (Although I just paid my first visit to Remove Rowdy, and if you think that's a more valuable batch of comments than we get here, well, you might, just might, be in the wrong place.) I removed posts where the Bomber proclaimed his own magnificence and favored us with the lyrics of a Motorhead song from which he took his name.

There's nothing wrong with GIML or RR. Just a different feel to them, that's all. More susceptible to flaming. More personal attacks. A curious fascination with babyarm and vaginal-slice-born-born references, the comedy value of which has yet to be explained satisfactorily to this observer. Some P1's like that kind of fun on the Internet. I don't, particularly, so I started this site.

Commenters are not required to write essays, but if they feel like it, they can do so here without getting smacked around. Commenters don't have to give reasons for their opinions, but when they do, they're treated with respect as long as they show some themselves. Sound elitist and snobby? (1) I don't care, and (2) I almost NEVER take down comments anyway irrespective of literary quality.

You want your voice heard at The Ticket and among the CTO? This site may be a gnat on The Ticket's windshield, but I don't hear anyone suggesting that GIML or RR are passed around at the station. You want to influence things for the better at The Little One, you'd better bring a game that indicates that you've been listening with some care and have thought things through. To date, I have been astonished at the analyses we've seen from many of the men and women who comment here.

So far, I haven't had to do much policing, and I don't require registration or the use of a name, and I don't moderate comments prior to posting. I like to think this keeps the strings current and fresh, the value of which has been shown in the recent difficulties with the streams.

In the past I have been inclined to leave up even some pretty dumb BS comments because we don't get many of them. If that changes, the policy will change.

In the meantime, I hope contributors to GIML, RR, Radio-Info, and TTT ("The Ticket Tribute") will feel free to comment here. Take a swim through the archives -- you'll see one-liners as well as essays, and some very funny exchanges. Just stay Ticket-centric, and you should fit right in.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I see I neglected to answer the question you asked.

Answer: To the best of my knowledge, nothing differentiates them. The site just has somewhat different aims than those two.

The same individual can go to III Forks and Queen Bee Bar-B-Que. I don't care what the other guys permit, but when you dine at My Ticket Confession, while coat and tie are not required, shirt and shoes are a must.

    And no flip-flops.

  33. The Hardline referred to Mike making "a ticket confession" today at 6:30. I must say this time it seemed more in reference to the old Ticket Confession bit posted in the comments of the previous post.

  34. Missed it.

Convincing myself that The Ticket is sending this site coded secret special messages.

    In the alternative, not.

  35. Shaggy, did you or anyone else happen to catch Mike's Ticket Confession? I missed it. If anyone did, would you mind please sharing what was said?

  39. Sex with animals. Why in the world would he bring that on air? There's a prime example of why The Hardline keeps getting worse. I guess the Petty Theft and now Nyrds gigs are thinning out as far as crowds go, because he's obviously not receiving the attention that he craves. A 62 year old man, a few years away from being officially classified as a senior citizen, talking about such garbage. My word.

  44. It's hilarious that "The Bomber" thinks the first commenter was me (I was the so called "Wounded tiger" from the last post.) I haven't been to this site in about a week, but it's nice to see some of the locals still think the internet is comprised of a total of 10 or 15 people. Teehee.
