Happy Birthday, Mike R

On this day in 1948, Babe Ruth died.

Two years later to the day, Baseball Jesus was born.

A respectful happy birthday to the rock upon which Dallas sports radio is built.

  5. "[M]eh." Huh. To "meh," one, the birthday of a founder of the station, and two, an integral part of the station's highest rated, most decorated show... and to do it on a blog that is dedicated to the station... well, you sir or madam, take the cake.

  6. Am I the only one that feels like this blog is losing more steam by the day? I guess when there's no perceived event that is potentially catastrophic in the near or not so near future, this place sorta shuts down. I thought this was a place where rabid P1s come to discuss segments and whatnot on a daily basis.

Maybe some of the naysayers are right, after all: This blog thrives solely on doom and gloom conspiracy theories. If so, that's too bad. Because sometimes there's grade-a stuff here, written by the host and the commenters.

  7. Anybody else having issues with TuneIn's stream today? I tried several times and each time was told that the station was unavailable, and was redirected to a "similar station". I switched over to iHR and it's working fine.

I ask because I obviously lose the DVR (DAR) capability, which I live by at work (rewind funny stuff, pause/catch up during times away from my desk). They didn't by any chance officially move off of TuneIn, did they?

  8. From my understanding of Jeremy's twitter this morning after I had the same problem... yes, we are stuck with iHR now and TuneIn will no longer work which really sucks here at work in TN.

Oh well, it ain't their fault, it's the higher ups in Atlanta.

  9. When I go to my Tunein.com bookmark and click the link a new pop-up player comes up and works fine for me.

    The pop-up player is player.streamtheworld.com

  10. I have been listening and DVR'ing via ooTunes today since Tune In no longer works for me. The interface is not nearly as friendly as TuneIn. I'm sure it won't be long before this stops working as well.

Yeah, it seems like it's died down quite a bit lately. Not much interesting going on I guess (and no new doom and gloom to be had). It would be great if the discussion here shifted to more of the show content but I think that would require a bit of a format change.

Agreed. I too wish the discussion here was more about day to day segments, rather than hypotheticals and reading far too much into any and all mishaps or misspeaks. Sometimes, yeah, something occurs that not only will, but needs to be analyzed, parsed, and speculated upon. But more often than not, something just, and I hate this phrase but it's fitting here, "is what it is." Yet that doesn't seem to stop either this blog's proprietor or many of its commenters. I do enjoy this place from time to time, so I'm not going to spew out a bash fest. But like you, I wish this could be a more day to day driven blog. And like you said, to be so would mean to change the feel of it. Moreover, it would mean that commenters would have to be very civil, respectful, and serious (as serious as you can be about The Ticket). Else it would quickly devolve into some of the other Ticket based pages out there (no need to name names...I think we all know the ones I'm talking about). I wish Plainsman would find a blogging partner. One who would take over the day to day operations. Who would steer it toward a more "today on The Ticket" oriented blog. That way Plainsman, who seems "out" evermore with each passing month, could swoop in at his leisure and dazzle us with one of his signature, usually either speculative or gut-feeling pieces. It would keep the site fresh and, I think, a more attractive, better place to visit for the, ahem, discerning P1.

  13. Actually, I'd say this blog is returning to it's usual commenting levels - it's seen a huge increase over the last year or so, but ~10-20 comments per post, one post every week or so is about what it used to be.

  14. Yeah. Things were hopping here with the bungled move to Victory, but hasn't been as much of interest lately. And, as noted, I've not been able to listen as much, and those issues extend to writing time as well. Sorry to disappoint this site's several dozen fans.

Hey, comments are open as to topic. Every comment string is "today on The Ticket." Don't wait for me to hear something of interest and write about it. We have some terrific listeners, thinkers, and writers, and they're always welcome if they hear something that bears comment.
