Musers Quick Hit

+     +     +

From this morning's Muser showgram:

GORDON:  I was on "It's Just Banter" recently  .  .  .

JEREMY [under his breath but clearly audible]:  Why?

FERNANDO:  [Explosive cackle.]

SOMEBODY:  Be nice, Jer.

Ah, Ticket politics.  We try to read the clues on who are pals and who are not, who's just teasing and who's not.

It's been awhile since any Confessor has mentioned IJB.  I got the impression that most readers liked the podcasts.  Those gents still turning out quality stuff?

  1. They did a live remote on Sunday at The Mucky Duck in Addison. Dan and Gordon were there as guest hosts. The Unticket has it posted I think.

Also, TC is out of town on vacation for the week so i'm going to hold down the Top 10 fort. Tune in if you want to or get a chance!

  2. This week's IJB was fantastic. Two of the better hours of talk I've heard in a long time - especially the last 15 minutes or so of Gordon's time.

  3. KT. He brings it.

Any time KT can get himself more involved, the better off for all of us.

    All hail Adolescent God!

  4. Is TC 6-5 or something? For some reason, maybe it's his sometimes deep, sometimes odd east coast way of pronouncing suffixes -even though he's from here- I thought Jake was much taller, more athletic looking. From the photo up at the Unticket site, he seems to be pushing 5-10, 150 lbs.

  5. Which one of my friends left the 854 comment?

Jake is taller than TC in real life. I'm guessing they had some sort of a prop or something in that very funny picture. All denim. Genius

  6. I just started listening to IJB this week because I heard Dan and Gordon mention that they were guests.

Pretty good stuff, I plan to listen to more/

  7. Heard on Wed afternoon and then again this morning that the hosts think Mickey Spagnola needs to sign a one-day contract with the Ticket when he retires. Musers may also put him up for EBW for his sign-off last night on the Cowboys pre-game show.

Also heard several recent references to Chris Arnold. And during training camp Mike referenced others speaking to Greggo. Whereupon Corby stated, "He's two feet from us!". Mike then stated "Not me. I'm keeping it real."

So my assumption is that, for the most part, (and with the exception of Mike and Greggo) hosts from different stations have a friendly rivalry.

Would I be correct or do some station hosts throughly detest those from rival stations, and vice-versa?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think they're all friends. I don't think there's any real rivalry going on. And how could there be? At least between The Ticket hosts and the other two. The Ticket is so far ahead of them, there is no competition. The competition is between ESPN and the FAN. The only points of contention are between Rhyner and a few other local hosts. I'd say Galloway, Richie Whitt, and Mike Fisher. And of course, Greggo. However, from what I can tell, the iciness between Rhyner and Greggo flows, solely, in one direction: Rhyner toward Greggo. Evidently Greggo has tried over and again to reach out to Rhyner; and Rhyner (quite frankly, understandably) has refused to open the door.

  9. Hey KT, it would be nice if you could update the podcasts.

  10. To the 9:54 comment. Unless something changes in the next couple days, the podcasts won't be uploaded until T.C. gets back. It has to do with username and password information on another website, and that's information that i'm not privy to. Really sorry about the inconvenience.

  11. I know Bob, Dan, Corby and maybe Danny hung out with Ben and Skin in Arizona this year or last.

  12. When did the Ticker "e-brake" they played on the Bad Radio open the other day actually happen? It was Krenek (I think) doing a ticker but being drowned out by music. That was the first time I'd heard it and it was fucking hilarious. Every time the hosts tried to talk to him and brought his level up, it was just music playing. Will it be an e-brake nominee this week or is it old news?

    ReplyDelete
  13. To the 11:56 comment, that happened about a month or two ago. Without checking, I would guess the good people at The Unticket have it in their archives somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, I guess the stream is down this afternoon; at least it is right now for me.

Wonder if this is related to Killer being at a remote in Plano that Mike and Corby did not know they were supposed to be there. That's all I heard before getting out of the car.

So not only technical issues but management / communication issues as well?

  15. Never mind. It's up now

  16. Mickey may be a bit a of a douche ("Mix in a game..."), but I felt bad for him after the massive pile-on this week for his failed-smile moment on the Cowboys pre-game.

Seriously, watch this video, and you just can't help but feel bad for the guy watching him "You Guys!", then deer-headlight, then wince:

  17. For some reason I was under the impression that Mickey wasn't on good terms with most of the hosts. That they were glad when he left with the Cowboys. But having heard every single host discuss Mickey's t.v. troubles, it's undeniable that they all, to a man, really like and respect him. Each host has said as much. Funny how you can get such a false impression of a situation...to the point where you're certain that what you *know* is the way it is...when it's absolutely not. Food for thought fellow Confessors.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I notcied Danny was a little punchy yesterday. Seemed like he had somehow been reprimanded about the show not getting to breaks on time.

Seemed like it was alluded to by another show today too.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, uh, why no George DiGianni this morning? Instead Rotten Radio is being played. Though I have heard two DiGianni spots: one for his two week colon buster and the other for some new, surprise, supplement he's endorsing.

Anyone out there know the scoop?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry, I meant to say three week colon buster. Gotta get these things right.

  21. I know that at least one of the hosts and some of the crew from MaSS visit this blog from time to time, so I'm trying to be sensitive here. But jeez loowheeze, the whole church "ask your usher," "benediction," and whatnot schtick has got to stop, fellas. It's not funny, it's not clever, and the way in which Scot says it all is a bit on the bad touch side. Sorry, that's just how I see it.

Matt: Please do us listeners a favor and never try to imitate a Bostonian again.

Scot: Buddy, I think you've already punished your daughter by bringing up the curfew business on air. You do know that everyone in her class/half the school will know about her troubles by the day's end, don't you?

Other than that, I enjoy the show. Loved the music talk last week. It was refreshing to hear hosts talk about music without putting on an air of superiority; without being cliquish. I totally related to it, and I'll bet I'm not the only one either, by a long shot.

So keep up the good work boys. But drop the forced church bit. It's not working. Or at least not in the way you want it to.

I'm surprised no one has brought up their 31.5 hour Cowboy pregame show. It starts noon Tuesday. Is this the last grasp? Do you think they will try 24/7 all Cowboys, all the time?

Probably not. Dallas is a winners town and with the Rangers success they would have to talk a lot about them. Especially if the Boys struggle. But I do think that the launch of the 24/7 CBS sport network, around the corner, will bring some major changes to The Fan.

  23. Davey and Gordon and the Teebox mentioned a memo regarding on-time breaks as well yesterday.

Doubt if there will be a format change with the CBS sports network launch in January. Unless CBS is ok with the network just heard overnights and weekends on The Ticket. The Ticket definetly won't bump any of thier local daytime programming for CBS national daytimes. So CBS will probably use The Fan to clear the national daytime shows in Dallas. Also keep in mind they are just two years into a long term contract (10 years I believe) with the Cowboys. With that, along with the new network, sports talk will more than likely be in place on 105.3 in some form or faction for awhile.

  25. It looks like David Moore and Bob Wilonsky will have their own Wednesday night show on The Ticket beginning next week. Awesome news! A step in the right, much needed direction where nighttime programming is concerned. Now if Cat and Co would find a place for IJB and a regular slot for SeaBass and Newbury (perhaps weekends for the former, weeknights for the latter?), things would really be rolling. By the way, I thought SB and Newbury were excellent today. Perhaps it's through maturation or maybe it's because he's with a partner he respects, but Newbury is on his game. No more talking over and/or shouting down and/or being audibly disgusted with his cohost. No. He's now a pro. He and SeaBass really bring something The Ticket sorely needs more of: hardcore sports talk...that's local in scope, but with the knowledge to broaden out nationwide. Yes, Norm has that going for him, but with Norm there comes, at times, unattractive baggage and (more and more with each passing year) a certain amount of out of touched-ness and (I hate to say this) even a bit of mental slippage (he's not as sharp as he once was and it's beginning to show). I love it that there are no bits with the Diamond Talk boys. As to the Bros Sirloin: They were OK. It's seems as if they pass a baton to one another. The holder of said baton appears to have to speak as rapidly and breathlessly as possible while the other goes the opposite way. Odd dynamic. Plus, they just aren't funny. If you're going to try to do funny, you better be funny. I also found the brown nosing of the other hosts via "we're all intimidated talk" to be amateurish and something that a newbie host would try. MaSS wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable, either. I agree with duckandcover about the silliness of the entire MaSS/church concept. It's hokey/unimaginative enough on Sundays, and it really sounds cheese ball and even baffling on a weekday. I do think Scot and Matt make a good pairing. Take this however you want, but I think management finally found a fit for McClearin. As weird as that dude can be, Harrison seems equally as strange.

  26. One more thing: Where the hell are you, Plainsman??? I mean, according to this combox alone, you have an MIA DiGianni/DeJohn, The FAIL perhaps having a big makeover in January, a new local nighttime Ticket program, JV shows on during primetime hours for your analysis, and multiple visits from none other than Mr. Kevin Turner...and no Plainsman. This is the sorta s*** you seem to thrive on!

    C'mon man, show yourself.

  27. How often will a Wednesday night show be pre-empted by Diamond Talk or Stars Games/postgames?

What time will the show be airing?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shaggy, I don't recall them saying what time the show will be airing. I only heard them briefly mention it before they were going to a break around 5pm.

  29. Why should I do all the work if you guys will do it? And doing a fine job of it, I must say. Actually, a better job than I.

All the news is cool and no problem with clipping from the DFW radio-net board, as long as those guys don't care.

I heard several references to "the memo" about -- whatever it was about, staying on time, staying on topic. The shows will observe it for a week or so, then it's back to slippage.

I have been away from this site and the station for a bit. Sorry. I have a roasting hot STD finished, kinda like the old MTC days, but it's so incendiary I'm thinking of just bagging it and going back to writing about what was on The Hardline three days ago.

  30. During the first part of listening to Wilonsky and Moore today I found myself struggling a bit to get into the action. But, that's typical of a year1/P1 when drydock happens for the main hosts. But, after about 15 mins I found myself LOVING IT! Community quick hits was especially entertaining.

  31. Bring on the STD, Plainsman! BRING IT BRUTHAAAAAA!!!!

  32. If you're gonna stay away from both the station and your own blog and not seem too bothered by it, then maybe it's time to close up shop. I'd hate to see this place go away, but if you keep going away for what seems evermore extended leaves of absence, this thing will eventually devolve into trollsville and spam. Faster than you think. So yeah man, post up that scorching hot piece, pronto. You drive this thing. Don't let us become another Donner Party. Take the reins of your wagon and lead us.

  35. duckandcover... I mean this when I say this...and I do... appreciate the comments re: MaSS. Have been thinking for some time some elements needed refinement/refit/retreat. Self assessment is constant and sometimes things die (two minute drill, porn birthdays, etc). Work in progress.

Re: daughter/curfew; she and I discuss and she gets it being brought up on the air. All in all she's a good kid and her teachers reiterate that often, right after they tell me they listen to the show... but breaking curfew is something most have done or have had done to them so it seemed relevant to the majority of the audience.

Finally: A big thanks for the comp on the music segment and the overall positivity about the show. The feedback is truly appreciated..

anonymous 9/3/12 6:39 PM... Matt and I do enjoy doing the show together. We feel like, in maybe 3000+ shows or so we might be better than "not bad, but not memorable" but for now I'll take that.
As for me being strange, I quote the great Jeremy Irons in his role as Klaus Von Bulow: "You have no idea."

I'm glad you took my critiques in a positive manner. That's the way I meant them. Even the negatives. I thought you guys did a fine job yesterday afternoon, by the way. Keep on rockin' in the free world and stay hard, and I'll keep listening.
