Delighted to hear that The Orphanage is going to 1 PM today. Another positive development for original Ticket weekend programming, which has made great strides the last year. Hope this is a permanent change.
If so, Ticket/Cumulus management deserves thanks.
If not, then thanks for today.
I would love this to be a long term change. The Orphanage is my favorite show. Danny & Davey are very engaging. When ever they do remotes (Trophy Nissan, Bone Daddy's, Classic BMW) I like to call in to the show & say how I never been to said location until The Orphanage introduced me to said remote sponsor.
ReplyDeleteI hope they have more content to fill 3 hours than what they threw down on Saturday if this becomes a permanent change...but maybe this "reaching for straws for material" quality is part of its charm for most of its listeners.
ReplyDeleteExactly Christy! To me The Orphanage mirrors my Saturday morning. Running errands, recovering from the night before, contemplating that weekends sporting events. I know music plays a MAJOR part for Danny & Davey, but sometimes they get way too high minded for me.
ReplyDeleteAgree with both of you. The Orphanage is kind of a mess and that's partly why I like it. They spend a looooong time getting into substantive broadcasting (Danny would do handoff/mix-n-mingle for two hours if he could get away with it).
ReplyDeleteDanny and Daveay are not guys who are going to do a whole lot of show prep so I have a feeling that if it is going to become a three-hour show Christy's concerns are likely to continue. That third hour might end up being thin gruel.
However, my thought is that I prefer one hour of watered-down Orphanage to one hour of almost anything else The Little One throws out on weekends, including Race Week (even though I find RW tolerable owing to Rich Phillips' skill as a broadcaster).
Of course -- that third hour Saturday may just have been an artifact of some unusual scheduling on that particular day, and may not be permanent at all. In which case we can look forward to two jam-packed hours of concentrated entertainment in the weeks and months and years to come.
it was just a scheduling thing. college football start times create some odd saturday lineups in the fall. and yes, we do reach for straws and offer up thin gruel most of the time... but if we were on more than two hours a week I'd like to think we'd do some show prep. for now, we prefer to wing it. anyway, thanks for the support...
ReplyDeleteAre you guys asking management to be fill-in shows as the winter break comes around? I wish you guys would get that exposure (and it would be more enjoyable to listen to).
ReplyDeleteDavey, thanks for checking in. Yeah, when the next week you were back to two hours, we figured it was just a scheduling hiccup.
ReplyDeleteAs far as show prep goes . . . part of me says just keep slinging the same improv that we've come to know and love. Part of me says . . . do some show prep. And the third part of me says that The Ticket needs to compensate you in a way that will inspire you do show prep.
Having said that: Your Ticket Confession loves The Orphanage.
